Den, we saw the experience of Mokoena (umpteen caps for South Africa), Zurab (umpteen caps for Georgia), Bruno Berner (a few caps for Switzerland), Emerton (umpteen caps for Australia), Tugay (umpteen caps and more for Turkey), Bentley (England cap), McCarthy (umpteen caps for South Africa) combine to serve and embarrassment against Coventry and Friedel .....

I agree that Hodge to start against Bolton may be a bridge too far (but Hughes may not have an option) but I think you're over-rating experience. Those Coventry boys don't have much Premiership experience but they gave our lot on hell of a beating.

Bruno Berner may be experienced but I'd prefer to see Hodge start CM against Bolton than him. The danger of valuing experience so highly is that you forget that football is about talent and confidence, first and foremost. Experience lends confidence but does not lend talent. Mokoena is experienced but he's damn well talentless.

You're off again Rover6. You see a name of a young player and that's it, - he must play. I suspect that you have never seen Hodge play. Have you?

What do you know about Hodge's talent and confidence?

I don't know, but young lads aren't the answer. Experience is an essential, even if it means players out of position.

Sounds like something Souness would say

But to be fair i do agree, Bolton away perhaps isnt the best game to blood any budding youngsters.

Apparently Fulham made a offer for Australian midfielder Mark Bresciano.

he is someone id deffiently like to see at the club.

I remember a few years back there was talk of him around this board, along with Vince Grella.

Any takers?

right lets us get one thing stright, who ever we sign for center midfield, thay have to be able to defend and attack. If the club wants to move on, them players have to be able to do both and not just one of them.

Yes he plays left and centre.

I think it would be a top buy. I have always rated him.

I have always regarded him as the best Australia has, a cut above Kewell.

He is a good defender and excellent at creating chances and going forward.

Would be ideal to partner Bentley.

Well he's got to be better than Pedersen. Bring him in!

Would deffiently be more consistant week in week out than MGP thats for sure.

And i believe he gives alot more options.

Koumas IMO has never been more than a half-reasonable Championship player; and that's when he's at his best.

Why we are even interested in him I don't know. I don't even think he is good enough for Burnley. Might just do a job for Accy though.

last season when he was at west brom-he was voted best player in the championship-so he isnt just "half resonable championship player at best"...given the right manager, koumas could really shine, and seeing as hughes has managed him before im sure hughes could get the best out of him...

if hes good enough for west brom, hes good enough for burnley..

he can play in various positions aswell, so that could be a bonus..

I know is a derby, but seriously, bolton away not being a good fixture to blood a youngin'?

Would ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton, Newcastle, Aston Villa, or Portsmouth be better? A bottom half team, and with their only striker being unsettled.. and its too tough???

If the kid has the talent, and we need a player, "this fixture is too tough" is a crap excuse.

I've obviously never seent eh youth team play, so I can't speak to his ability, but if "we need experience" against Bolton of all teams, its a wonder were not in League 1.

You think it's easy for youngsters against Bolton of all teams?
