LeChuck Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 and certainly not in the key position of central midfield. Juande Ramos has had no problem with throwing Jamie O'Hara into the centre of midfield since he took over at Tottenham, and he's performed brilliantly.

den Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Juande Ramos has had no problem with throwing Jamie O'Hara into the centre of midfield since he took over at Tottenham, and he's performed brilliantly. What's that got to do with Hodge? Maybe O'Hara was rated the brightest prospect in the country, I don't know.
Dunnfc Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 What's that got to do with Hodge? Maybe O'Hara was rated the brightest prospect in the country, I don't know. Well Spurs had limited optitions when he came into the team but hes been brilliant, remember seeing him at chesterfield oncce when he was on loan and i thought he was going to ba a good un i sugested signing him a month back, but is value has probably trippled now. I should be our clubs new scout lol
USRoverME Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 You think it's easy for youngsters against Bolton of all teams? So what teams should youngster play against? Derby and who else?
rebelmswar Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 So what teams should youngster play against? Derby and who else? I think what people are getting at is when a team is in mental tatters it is best to play more seasoned players. This helps to steady nerves as youngsters are jumpy from the get go when thrown into a senior game.
den Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 So what teams should youngster play against? Derby and who else? They should be introduced slowly in games where the team are playing well and there's less chance of the crowd killing any confidence they might have. Not thrown in, away from home, in a Derby game where tensions will be high, playing in a central position where in all likelihood they'll see precious little of the ball because of their lack of experience, know-how and probably physical strength. Of course, if he's another Ronnie Clayton then he'll be OK. I guess he would already be there though, if that were the case.
USRoverME Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 On the other hand, I would counter that the team is in tatters because we use the fewest players in the prem, we basically never rested our first team players in the intertoto and the carling cup (I think olsson getting a game or so was about it, apart from suspension and injury subs). We've played 21 games in the prem, and only 14 players have more than 3 starts. And one's been sold. edit: So Den, there's no chance that our poor form is down to players being tired from overuse and that a set of fresh young legs, especially in the center of the midfield might jsut be what we need? Also re teh crowd. In my opinion its always easier to blood a kid away from home. If you blood him at home and he has a stinker that abuse is much worse than the crap he'd get from away fans. And that's utter nonsence about his inexperience will mean he doesn't get the ball. If he's not got enough fottballing sence to make himself available for a teammate, then he's not a player. Heck even mokoena can find open space. And I've arleady been told the Bolton is not a derby! but I can't imagine, if our tired players keep up this form that we'll ever have a match for a youth player, so we might as well close the academy and cash in on them all now.
garnersfags Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I presume the last couple of pages means there are no 'likely transfer targets' anyone is aware or sure of? I've had a few texts about Koumas but precious little else. Any news on our near-as-dammit new signing Stephen Reid?
herbergeehh Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 He is back in training last I heard, so could be a possible starter on Sunday?
Roost Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 It's not a derby. Eh? Its not a local derby.............. what the bloody 'ell is then? From Ewood to the Breezeblock - 25 minutes by car From Ewood to Turd Moor - just a bit less From Ewood to Accy - 15 minutes From Ewood to OT - 45 minutes From Ewood to Anfield - 1 hour From ewood to Goodison - 1 hour From Ewood to Eastlands - 40 minutes From Ewood to JJB - 45 minutes From Ewood to deepdale - 25 minutes Are none of these local derbies either?
philipl Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Of course Notlob is a derby- especially those of us from Darwen or the Cross! Back to transfers- Sunderland to meet our £4m asking price for Roberts and Derby in for Henchoz whilst the Independent has this highly improbable Koumas headline. Koumas smacks of desperation- Sparky has had numerous chances to sign him in the past so why now other than a sign anybody sort of reaction?
Nelsta Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 It's not a derby. There are a few younger members of this forum that consider this a bigger match than burnley. As this is the only derby they have known.
Eddie Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 If that is true I will cry. If we are seriously going to pay 3 million for Koumas and won't raise that by 2.5 for Diarra...
alexanders Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Sparky has had numerous chances to sign him in the past so why now other than a sign anybody sort of reaction? The Prize has just dropped after a bad season at Wigan. Didn't Wigan pay £5 for him? Sparky knows this lad from his time as Welsh Manager, so if he buys him he knows what he is capable of doing!
Eddie Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 There are a few younger members of this forum that consider this a bigger match than burnley. As this is the only derby they have known. I'd probably put myself in that category. We've played Burnley several times in my lifetime, but we've never lost to them and it usually hasn't been much of a contest, whereas we've lost quite a few times to Bolton. We were promoted together and have been around each other in the league quite often, so I see them much more as rivals than Burnley and so a more important derby, even if the history isn't quite the same.
philipl Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Even for oldies, Burnley games are hardly a regular occurence. Taking 1965 as when I started following Rovers in earnest, I think we have played them 17 times counting in Anglo-Scottish Cup ties. In the same time, we have played Bolton over 60 times- we even went down to the Third Division together in 1970 and won promotion together in 2001 so I don't think there is any other club we have played more frequently during my time supporting Rovers.
bubblerrovers Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I can't see the board giving Hughes any money while speculation mounts he could go to Newcastle, even then the pathetic 2-4 million he's likely to get won't keep him past this summer, and Koumas???? do me a favour
USABlue Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 No Sas and no Diarra. Not on Hughe's list of targets the LET says so who bloody well is and how long of a list is it?
USABlue Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I think what people are getting at is when a team is in mental tatters it is best to play more seasoned players. This helps to steady nerves as youngsters are jumpy from the get go when thrown into a senior game. Correct me if I am wrong but aren't our "seasoned" players the one in tatters, they seem to be the one most of the criticism is levelled at. Nelsen, McCarthy, Mokoena, MGP
USABlue Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 but I can't imagine, if our tired players keep up this form that we'll ever have a match for a youth player, so we might as well close the academy and cash in on them all now. No no no, the academy is doing so well, I mean we just offed one of our players to Accy cos the quality is so high.
daveoftherovers Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Nonsense world of football transfers Quality Article Philipl, very accurate & quite funny
Rob of the Rovers Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Am I the only one who thinks Koumas wouldn't be such a bad signing? Admittedly I am basing my opinion of him on one game, the play off final. He was West Brom's biggest threat that day and I thought he had started the season quite well for Wigan. He has the ability to dribble past players at decent pace, something no one at the Rovers can do, and he would provide competition for MGP, which I am sure everyone can see would be a good thing! However, I would rather we focused our attention on a central midfielder.
