LeftWinger Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Am I the only one who thinks Koumas wouldn't be such a bad signing? Admittedly I am basing my opinion of him on one game, the play off final. He was West Brom's biggest threat that day and I thought he had started the season quite well for Wigan. He has the ability to dribble past players at decent pace, something no one at the Rovers can do, and he would provide competition for MGP, which I am sure everyone can see would be a good thing! However, I would rather we focused our attention on a central midfielder. I like Koumas. He can play central midfield - but would also put a bit more pressure on MGP on the left. I thought Nicko said that we were offered him - and turned them down though.

I would think that if Hughes thought he was any good he would have moved for him a long time ago, as he must have seen enough of him in the Welsh squad
Eddie Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 We have been linked with him a few times since Hughes has taken charge.
LeftWinger Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 We have been linked with him a few times since Hughes has taken charge. I think the crazy prices that ended up in him costing 5.25m priced us out last time. But if he's available for less....
modes98 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 If we had any chance of signing Anelka it has now gone. Signed a 4 and a half year deal with chelsea and moves for £14m
alexanders Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 If we had any chance of signing Anelka it has now gone. Signed a 4 and a half year deal with chelsea and moves for £14m Anelka was Signed by BFS for £8 M, and they sell him for £14. Good business I might say!
Dan Furness Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Oh joy. Well can you name a better player available?? yet another suicidal poster on here
Hasta Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 If Hughes fancied Koumas I would have thought he'd have gone for him when he'd fell out with brian Robson and was on loan at Cardiff. I just don't think Hughes wants him. However desperation in that position and a lack of midfield oppurtunities out there might change his mind.

herbergeehh Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Buying club: Chelsea = Selling price: + 20% Like Nicko said all along, if all the big clubs chose to pursue other players, his price might've been within Rovers' reach. (by selling McCarthy and maybe even Roberts, though..)
Torgeir Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Well can you name a better player available?? yet another suicidal poster on here Diarra.
CircoWill Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Diarra. He wants £90k a week to go to Newcastle though!

RovertheHill Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Anelka was Signed by BFS for £8 M, and they sell him for £14. Good business I might say! Except for 20-odd million they lose when they get relegated... Actually though, I agree with you, because frankly you know with Anelka you will only get a year or so before the sulks start so it is good business. I just can't see where they will get their goals from though
tcj_jones Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 He wants £90k a week to go to Newcastle though! Somehow I don't believe that's true.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Saw that wage demand in the paper this morning and almost fell of my chair laughing ...thats almost what Harry has been offered by all accounts!

modes98 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 He wants £90k a week to go to Newcastle though! That's because he is a good player. £5.5m is a snip of what he could be worth in 2 or 3 years.
G Somerset Rover Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 That's because he is a good player. £5.5m is a snip of what he could be worth in 2 or 3 years. Exactly. But I think that he may want the 90k a week as he knows that he'll jeopardize his French National team spot if he moves to a club outside of the big four. 90k a week would soften that blow!
thenodrog Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 That's because he is a good player. £5.5m is a snip of what he could be worth in 2 or 3 years. 'could'? So 5.5 mill to buy him plus 4.5 mill per annum for 3 years modes? Thats 19 bloody million! Do you really think we'd get that back? I don't cos by then he could walk away for free! Thats not 19m ...... thats 19m gone up in smoke. Oh and btw what would we tell the rest of the players who would all want 90 grand a week too?
herbergeehh Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Also, looking at Nicky Butt thinking "I'm probably at least three times as good as that ####" might up the demands..
CircoWill Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 That's because he is a good player. £5.5m is a snip of what he could be worth in 2 or 3 years. Yes, but we're not going to break/smash our wage structure for him are we. Not the way we do business.
