I can't see Newcastle letting Owen go in this transfer window without having a replacement lined up. I also can't see how we could afford him now. The only option would be a swap for McCarthy.

However, Owen could be a possibility in the summer.

There is no release fee payable now, so it's whatever the market rate is. He wants to leave so the price may be a lower than you expect.

Wages are an issue, but if you are going to push the boat out for anyone.....

Why would you push the boat out for a crock?

Owen in Macarthy out would be sensational news for Rovers but then Amdy Faye supplying the through balls totally kills it dead.

Hughes would need stronger central midfielders than your Faye, Reid, Dunn, Mokoena's of this world.

I wouldn't want Owen in our team. 4 years ago maybe but now - no thanks. His pace has gone and the amount of 1 on1 chances he misses at the moment is mental. Seriously, I would rather Derbs starts than him.

This is the area that we operate in. Only after playing about 4 games in 2 years is Michael Owen mentioned in the same breath as Blackburn Rovers. That shows you how little we are fancied. If Owen was playing now the way he was 4 years ago we would be nowhere near in contetion for his signature. We do not sign world class players in great form. We sign them once they have gone off the boil, and hope we can rejuvinate them. Its the best we'll ever be able to hope for - we cannot afford to be picky.

I'd rather Kuqi started than Owen, at least he could bundle the ball into the net and knock centre halves over !!!

It's not exactly a straight choice though is it? Sidwell is probably on three times as much as Faye, and I'd imagine that Chelsea would charge a fee for the loan as well. I'd rather have Sidwell still, but there are more factors than just how good the player is.

Owen is finished and to sign him would be a total waste of money. A swap for Benni would be even more foolish.

He is still a quality player. I would take him in a heartbeat for the right money and with a full medical to assure his fitness.

Sadly the right money would be no more than what Cruz is on. Which has to be shy of 50k a week which is not enough.

When I told a Rangers fan I know about Faye and said 'I suppose it could be worse', he replied with...

Have you seen Amdy Faye play...it couldn't be worse. When I read it I thought it was a joke. If you have a about 1.5 to 2m to play with, and you're intent on buying a Rangers fringe holding midfielder then they should buy Hemdani. He is the next Tugay. Can barely get a game for Rangers despite easily being better than anyone starting.

for god's sake lads dont buy amady faye.

We're not buying him!!!

It's a trial with a view to a loan. It's a case of getting bodies in at the moment. He could do a job and come the end of the season if he hasn't sparky(if he's here) will look elsewhere.
