Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ell/7164150.stm Seems to be a lot of players collapsing this year. A shame as he sounded a nice bloke.

G Somerset Rover Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Blimey, another one goes this way RIP
T4E Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Bloody hell I remember O'Donnell when him and Simon Donnelly were the next big things at Celtic. As I recall they both moved South to Sheffield Wednesday in the late 90's which didn't really work out. That said, he was a cracking player in his younger days. Real shame.
murray92 Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Blimey, another one goes this way RIP RIP Phil O'Donnell. A true Motherwell legend and family guy. I am a Rovers fan who was at Fir Park today. Phil O'Donnell had a seizure just as he was about to be substituted. As he took off the armband he collapsed. A truly tragic event. The ground was deafening in its silence after that, but in no way did we realise it was as bad. To make it even worse his nephew David Clarkston also plays for Motherwell and witnessed the who scene. You could see he was visibly upset, and this after scoring twice and getting man of the match. A frightening scene that puts it all in perspective.
Fife Rover Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I have seen Phil O'Donnel play many times and he was usually impressive and a whole-hearted player. This is indeed a very tragic loss to his wife and family and my deepest sympathy goes out to them.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I heard the club are going to fully support his wife and kids through this truly awful time. Such shocking news. RIP
rover_groo Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I couldn't believe this when watching Match of the Day, as I never had a chance to catch up with any of the football from today, until then. A real sad tragedy. I remember seeing Phil play in Lansdowne Road back in July 1997 and remembered his brief spell at Sheffield Wednesday as I had expected him to make quite an impact on the Premiership. Unfortunately injuries limited his amount of appearances and returned to Motherwell and played alongside one of Northern Ireland's favourites Stephen Craigan. Another awful tragedy and sincere condolences go to Phil's wife, children, family and extended relatives and relations. RIP Phil O'Donnell. - - - - - Picture Tribute Scoring for Celtic vs Motherwell Sept 1995
RoversFanUSA Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 RIP. Never heard of him but im sure he was a great guy and im sure he will be missed.
USABlue Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Damn shame, I hate to hear of tragedies such as these, bloke goes off to work like any other normal day but nevers comes home again. My thoughts always go to the family, the missus and the kiddies, what a loss.
philipl Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Horribly sad. A sickening experience for everyone at Fir Park yesterday and a tragedy for everyone close to Phil O'Donnell. Condolences.
des Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 a sad day for his f amily and friends. it puts football in to its correct place, its only a game, let remember this whatever the score in todays match.
RoyRover Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 This is an absolute tragedy. As I Celtic fan, I remember him playing in the 90's and he was one of Celtic's most important players. Really shocking and sad news.
Rovermatt Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Terrible stuff. It's always tragic to see apparently healthy, fit players being struck down the same as anybody else. I'll be at the Old Firm on Wednesday and expect a decent tribute to a very popular Celtic figure.
Presty On Tour Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 very sad indeed, condolences to all.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Whether fit or unfit it just puts into perspective how VERY fragile we all are really.Again its very strange how this death amongst seemingly young and fit athletes seems to be on the increase. Condolences to his family.
T4E Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 The Old Firm has now been called off. Disappointing but undoubtedly the right thing to do.
Rovermatt Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I'm gutted that I'm unable to go but can't begrudge the reasoning behind it. In any case McGeady and Nakamura should now be available for the new date.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 In any case McGeady and Nakamura should now be available for the new date. Every cloud eh?
T4E Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Bit harsh Revidge to quote that out of context in order to have a dig. Hardly the place for it, is it?
RevidgeBlue Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Bit harsh Revidge to quote that out of context in order to have a dig. Hardly the place for it, is it? Wasn't me that said it in the first place.
