alright everyone.

im a newcastle fan as you will see and i come in peace!

its all over the papers tomorrow that we are set to make an approach for your manager, and a few 'in the know's' in newcastle are claiming he will be installed as early as next week.

now i know we bailed you out when we PAID (still cannot believe that!) to take sourmess off your hands, but IF we were to make an approach to hughes, and he was to accept, do you feel we would have done the same again? or would you be disappointed to see him leave?

my personal opinion on hughes is that he is a good manager, but you seemed to have stalled a little? now whether this is due to lack of funds or what i do not know, i'll leave that up to you guys to tell me (if, of course you agree). i often think that its best to ask fans of the club their opinion as, after all, you watch it week in week out, and others can have a warped opinion on your manager/team/players.

our new owner has today promised to deliver entertaining/attacking football, and a team that will 'wallop chelsea', which leads us to think the new manager, as expected by a billionaire, will be backed heavily, and the reason allardyce wasnt, was because it wasnt his choice.

is hughes capable of playing attacking football?

whats he like in the transfer market?

more to thepoint, do you think he will leave you, for us? many would say he is crazy to jump into our cauldron?

before the abuse starts i am aware that you are a better team than us, and have been since we aquired sourmess from you.

i am also aware that we have never won (Please don't use that word again) all.

i am aware that we are not a big club in comparison to the man utds/chelsea etc.

no doubt some abuse will still come my way!

you lot know your football though, so i would respect your opinion.

cheers in advance!

i know you don't intend to cause trouble here, but personally i'd really rather not read stuff like this, it just seems like the best thing to happen to us since 1995 is going to leave and its being rubbed in our face a little....unintentionally i know, you just want to find stuff out.

but to answer your question: he's an excellent manager.

yes, but dont expect overnight success. Hughes will strengthen from the back first. Remember we had the bully boy tag for our methods in Hughes early days as he put some steel into a powder puff defence.

whats he like in the transfer market?

Has been excellent in the basement bargain shop. Has'nt had money to prove he can do major transfers.

more to thepoint, do you think he will leave you, for us? many would say he is crazy to jump into our cauldron?

For what my opinion is worth, I think he would be crazy, because Toon fans want instant success.........and it doesnt happen overnight. That said Hughes isnt Crazy - The Newcastle job is a poison challice

Hughes is a really good manager.best we had since Dalgliesh(i believe).

I think he'll go to be honest. And im gutted about it.

He does leave substitutions a tad late. And some times his substitutions can be baffeling. But as i said he is quality.

As for his transfer dealings.Nelsen-Nowt,Samba-next to nowt,Bently 400k,Santa cruz-3 mill(i think),Mccarthy same as Cruz.

The reason he will go is as you said..he's getting sod all in terms of money to spend here.

The football we play...When we're good we are very good..but when we're bad we are awfull. We usually dont start playing till the second half.Hence all the fight backs this season and today.

But yes you will be getting a very good manager. But wether he can survive the Newcastle job is down to your guys.

2) whats he like in the transfer market?

As paul says there's plenty of reading for you in the 'Fat Sam' and the 'nicko' thread. However my view on your 3 questions are.

1) Fairly attacking without going overboard. He's certainly not gung-ho and is sometimes slow to change things around if not working. However normally we are pretty solid.

2) Very shrewd. Pulls gems out for little cash (Nelson, Samba, Roque, the 2006 model benni). Don't know how he'd fare with loads of cash but can't see any reason why he'd fritter it.

3) If you made an approach yes most on here feel he'd go tommorow. A lot of his quotes are hinting though that he'd want things on his terms (board relationship, outside interference etc..)

I should add that we think just as much of our club as Newcastle fans do of theirs, and i think it's fair to say that we find the whole media obsession with your outfit a bit grating at times. Particularly since you've had a bunch of morons running the show for a long time. Ashley is the latest big time charlie to take over.

He hasn't agreed to go yet although he is interested. I think he will probably meet with your chairman if an offer is made to sound things out and make a decision.

The big hurdle from your point of view is that Hughes puts great emphasis on his relationship with the board. If he feels Ashley will interfere with him, or place too much pressure on him he will not go. So its not done and dusted.

Personally I feel he is a better manager than 'Arry. He has put together a highly capable, good attacking and passing side here on an astonishingly small amount of cash. I honestly don't think there is anyone who could do a better job at turning Newcastle around. He will get you to play defensively at first, dogs of war stuff tp sore up the back and build confidence, so you will need to be patient (can Geordies be that?) and then work on the flair side of the game.

If he does go you could be paying us a fortune too for his services. He just signed a new contract a month ago.

Hi Toon - I'll try to be hospitable, but some here are still furious about Shearer.

its all over the papers tomorrow that we are set to make an approach for your manager, and a few 'in the know's' in newcastle are claiming he will be installed as early as next week.

now i know we bailed you out when we PAID (still cannot believe that!) to take sourmess off your hands, but IF we were to make an approach to hughes, and he was to accept, do you feel we would have done the same again? or would you be disappointed to see him leave?

Yes, you will have to pay for him, way more than for Souey.

The majority here would be most unhappy if he left.

my personal opinion on hughes is that he is a good manager, but you seemed to have stalled a little? now whether this is due to lack of funds or what i do not know, i'll leave that up to you guys to tell me (if, of course you agree). i often think that its best to ask fans of the club their opinion as, after all, you watch it week in week out, and others can have a warped opinion on your manager/team/players.

The Walker Trustees and the club board choosing to keep their hands in their pockets hasn't helped things, but a 4 point improvement in the table between now and the end of the season will see us playing a Champions League qualifier in August.

our new owner has today promised to deliver entertaining/attacking football, and a team that will 'wallop chelsea', which leads us to think the new manager, as expected by a billionaire, will be backed heavily, and the reason allardyce wasnt, was because it wasnt his choice.

is hughes capable of playing attacking football?

What is it that you think we play? Fat Sam, Route 1, lower league nonsense?

whats he like in the transfer market?

Let's see; Benni & Roque for less than £7m......What did you guys pay for Owen again?

more to thepoint, do you think he will leave you, for us? many would say he is crazy to jump into our cauldron?

It does seem an odd decision from the outside. The pay packet, transfer kitty and time guarantees will have to be enormous.

before the abuse starts i am aware that you are a better team than us, and have been since we aquired sourmess from you.

i am also aware that we have never won (Please don't use that word again) all.

i am aware that we are not a big club in comparison to the man utds/chelsea etc.

cheers in advance! Cheers - although I wish you no luck.

Seems as though every one on here is resigned to sparky leaving but in my opinion I think he'll stay, for the same reasons harry rednapp didnt take the job!! it may be naivity on my part but the only reason to go is money, though it is a big reason it could also get you sacked very easily & hughes will no doubt think that. The board at blackburn are holding back the cash at the moment but who's to say that they are doing so because the takeover is close & sparky will get a massive warchest in the summer!?!?! ....maybe not! ah well .....I have read on nickos thread that you would be surprised by who reads this message board so lets stop the negativityall just get behind hughes & make him know how much he is wanted & needed around ewood!!

Will be gutted if Hughesy goes and fear that, like the last few managers, he wouldn't last very long due to the deluded Newcastle fans' expecting that they should win things and be challenging for the title just because they get 50,000 fans watching them every week. A big club in terms of following but nothing else unfortunately for them.

I personally feel that if Hughes left Rovers then it will be a bad move for him because he's a young manager who is building a reputation at Blackburn despite limited resources compared to clubs like the top 4 and yourself.

He is on a constant battle at Blackburn to bring people in from nowhere or for next to nothing and to transform them into successful first team regulars. What he is doing is what Wenger is doing for Arsenal but on an even smaller budget.

To be 3pts off a Champions League place and being around teams who have spent upward of 30 million pounds this season and having a mid-season blip just shows what he's achieved at Rovers and it shows how a manager and the board can successfully work together to achieve the right results over time.

He didn't come in to Blackburn and instantly made us a top side, he worked hard, we played some god awful football at times but it meant surviving a rough season and then building on that.

At Newcastle he would have 50,000 fans on his back if he did to Newcastle exactly what he did at Rovers from the beginning. He would be hounded out the club despite the potential success in the long run and I feel with Mr Ashley he wouldn't get the same support and trust that our board has given Hughes.

We all saw the way Big Sam was treated by the fans and the board. Not long ago this man was a potential England manager who has built up his career from lower league football and turned Bolton into a team aiming for Europe each season. Now he's jobless because he wasn't given time at a club in desperate need of help because if we're honest, the club is a shambles at the moment considering the talent Newcastle have compared to most teams in the Premier League.

IF Hughes did go, then he needs time. He needs support and he needs the full backing of the board. I will be totally gutted and i'm sure most here would as well but whether he will have the same impact at Newcastle then I doubt it because I personally feel Newcastle need to have a legend as a manager. Someone who the fans can look up to and someone they will be willing to back.

Shearer doesn't have the experience of management but he understands the club and the fans and knows why football is special to the Geordie fans, he's got that connection whereas the previous 'experienced' managers didn't quite have it. He would instantly command respect and would bring the passion the fans have missed. Keegan didn't have the experience at Newcastle but he understood what they wanted and look what he achieved.

There is only one man who can do it. Now stay away from Hughes! ;-)

Have we stalled?

From where I see it we have a positive net transfer spend over the Hughes era, yet still sit 3 points for 4th place.

Is that stalled?

sorry mate, not my intention at all. and i didnt mean to sound as if we could take him if we wanted to, i dont believe that to be the case at all.

cheers for the answer though.

i dont doubt that for a minute.

the media obsession is a result of freddy always giving them stuff to feed off, i realy think (and hope) it will calm down a lot under the new regime, especially when they get their own man in

to turn the tables toonfan, whats the score on kevin keegan? it would be great for football to see his character back in the game imo.

have they found what golf course he at yet? I've seen no comments from him anywhere?

no news mate, personally i just think its the press putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.

they say never go back, and i tend to agree.

cant see him taking us on again

we seem to dominate radio stations, newspapers, and tv shows pretty well for being a small club. althogh i know what you mean.

the fans being impatient is a myth, we've waited 50 years for a dmoestic cup and still turn up every week, if we were impatient we would have packed in years ago!

if any cset of fans had been served up what we have for the last 4 years, you would be pretty ###### off as well!

i think the new man, whoever he will be, will get time.

i dotn think anyone realy expected sam to be here long from the moment ashley walked through the door, and that worked against him

Simple fact is, he is roughly 6/4 to go to Newcastle on Betfair.

That is odds against which means the bookies think he is more likely to stay than go.

This despite tomorow's media frenzy.

Despite this I have bad vibes ..................

Toonfan - What is exactley being said up there? Do most of the Newcastle United fans want him?

i think everyone, rightly or wrongly, expects him to be the new manager, and its a mixed opinion I guess.

some still have him labelled as a bit of a bully tactics manager, some think he is great.

i guess its tough to know realy because blackburn seem to have gone about their business pretty quietly and just got on with things.

whereas under allardyce people knew bolton wer doing well as he was on every show going talking about 'little old bolton being 5th' etc.

hughes has just ###### his gob and got in with it so i dont honestly think many know to much about him

Many other current Premier League teams have been waiting years for silverware, I just don't understand why Newcastle think they have a god given right to be winning trophies and playing Champions League football. Having said that you won the Intertoto a couple of years ago didn't you?! :P

But will the fans give the new guy (whoever he is) time?
