gumboots Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 If Ince does go I suspect that you will be going cap in hand to someone who wasn't the man for you in the summer - unless you go for Curbs or King Kev, of course. Ah, but the others I could just about cope with - not Mr allardyce. Don't get me started. I'm trying to get over my intense dislike of him and while he hasn't been around much I've been fine but the revival of the possibility he could come here, however slight it is, has me twitching nervously and wondering if the arsenal game is the only Prem match I might see at Ewood this season. (Missed the Hull one cos I was still away!)

Billy Castell Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I know you're a Bolton fan Zulu, so Sam is a legend for you, but I'd be mortified if he came. His tactics are awful, he has probably lost a whole load of credibility after Newcastle, and his Souness like ability to play players out of position. And I dread to think who he would sign. Let us consider he'd make a move for a player that sends a chill down every Rovers fan's spine. Consider.......................................................... Kevin Davies
den Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Mish mash of a report, but sounds like Ince really is in the running. Ince's silence wont do much to quell the "anti-Ince" brigade, will it?
Exiled in Toronto Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 The 'sell' to Mr Ince will be one that could very easily tempt him. On arrival at Ewood, far from it being a bastion of stability, every single member of the football staff was gone. Brockhall was a footballing Marie Celeste. Imagine getting a job as a new managing director to find that every single head of department had just left. All you can do is get bums on seats ASAP from the best of the currently unemployed and give a chance to some of your old colleagues and hope they can make the step up. Not a recipe for success. Whereas Wise will be making a quite compelling argument that all those roles and more are already filled at Newcastle, and that Ince is the last piece of the jigsaw now they have got rid of that dinosaur Keegan. Their model is the future, they will be saying, and it is all geared to help Ince focus on what he does best and become a success. If they offer it him I think he will go. Whereas Williams will have to go grovelling to BFS who will bring in his army of backroom staff; the dim players won't be able to cope with 2 lots of change and we'll be bottom by Xmas; there'll be transfer requests like confetti etc etc. All because the Taffia was allowed to take over the entire club with no plan to either keep them or transition to a new regime.
gillibrand Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I would imagine the only thing that interests Ince is Ince, he did not rate us when he was a player so why should he now, if he gets the chance of a club with a bigger profile he will take it. And what is it with a mob mentality about Sam, he worked wonders with Bolton on a limited budget, they regularly had good runs in Europe, something we have not achieved, we have just had the odd brief visit, he lives up north, who are we going to get from the continent who will want to stay in a small northern town club. Just face facts we are going to be battling for Premiership survival and need a good reliable down to earth manager!

Kevin Davies I'm tempted to smile about the prospect of Super Kev pulling on a Rovers shirt again - but that's not where I'm coming from. I would be very upset to see him leave us because he really is a different player to the guy that turned out for you. You could not ask for more than he gives. Sam is not a legend for me. I despise him for the manner in which he left us and his subsequent attempt to entice staff and players to follow him. That's the nature of the game today, I know. However - Allardyce is a very good manager. A much better manager than he was allowed to be at Newcastle. Clubs such as Blackburn and Bolton need a manager with his style to survive. Anyway the notion that Rovers play total football and Allardyce would stifle it is a myth. You have always played to your strengths and in the last couple of years I don't think that even the most biased Rovers fan can say that you are proponents of the "beautiful game". That's not a criticism, byt he way. I happen to believe that football is a contact sport and direct football is enjoyable and has its place in the British game. If Ince goes (which I doubt) I cannot see a better option for you than Allardyce.
gumboots Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Loved the bit about it being one of the hottest jobs in management. So hot you don't stay in it long.
roversmum Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I just want to settle down and enjoy the season... Oh dear.
percy Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Mish mash of a report, but sounds like Ince really is in the running. "They are understood to have received 38 serious applications for the role, which they have now narrowed down to the shortlist of three." To me, that suggests Ince has applied?
Guest Kamy100 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I think that by this time next week TNR can put those golf clubs away.
gumboots Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 "They are understood to have received 38 serious applications for the role, which they have now narrowed down to the shortlist of three." To me, that suggests Ince has applied? It would but then this is the Newcastle chronicle we're talking about and by applications they could mean candidates i.e. those who applied and those they would like to interview. They do speak a different language up there to start with and then there's the media angle on top of that.
den Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 "They are understood to have received 38 serious applications for the role, which they have now narrowed down to the shortlist of three." To me, that suggests Ince has applied? I'm not sure he's applied, but pretty certain that Wise must have contacted Ince, being his best buddy and all that. Sounds like Ince hasn't done too much to discourage Newcastle either. Now whether there's anything at all in this story, no-one here knows. But for sure, Ince is going to be put under enormous pressure by the fans and media. He's going to have to clarify his position better than he has so far.
novella Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Think with all these clubs especially newcastle trying to screw us over day in day out. if this does go through we should poach our own manager. the ammount of compensation that would be coming our way we could probably poach a top manager from another club.
gumboots Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 TNR? thenodrog He's playing golf while Ince manages Rovers
Zulu Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 thenodrog He's playing golf while Ince manages Rovers What will he do if Fat Sam parks his tank on your lawn?
John Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Reliable tribal: Blackburn sale worry has Ince eyeing Newcastle
dring1 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 do you think bfs would come to rovers after we rejected him in the summer. i dont think so. as for ince i am conserned with what he has said about the job rather than coming out with i am happy at rovers and not interested.
gillibrand Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I know Bolton fans miss SAM it was a special time for them, but on the bright side if SAM was our manager Newcastle would not be tapping him up would they?
waggy Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 now then if ince left and bfs arrived i would agree to the saying that FOOTBALL IS A FUNNY OLD GAME,ince will not leave

I suspect Allardyce would manage your local Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet at the moment.
LeChuck Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 If Ince does go then we need to make an appointment that will restore our reputation in football, because it will take a bit of a battering if the second manager leaves in the space of a few months. I have a feeling West Ham have just made a terrific appointment in Gianfranco Zola. A similar one for us could restore optimism. Does anyone know if Shearer has actually completed his coaching badges? If he has I have no idea why he wants to stay with the BBC now that they don't have international football.
Lurid Coat Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I wouldn't shed many tears if we were to let Ince go, replacing him with Mancini/Laudrup/Donadoni/John Collins/Zico.
