But WHO do Liverpool bring in as manager right now?

No top boss is going to quit to take that job with the stakes so high and such massive doubts about the ownership of the club...

I wouldn't think it would be a big issue for a top manager who enjoys a challenge.

The rest of this season they would be given a get out of jail free card. Play the best team and your results will be better than Rafa's. As Rafa has made such a mess of it the fans probably wouldn't even mind finishing 5th as it wouldn't be his players. He would then have money to spend in the summer to improve his team.

Really can't see a top manager taking it now. Maybe a top prospect, someone currently at a smaller club who would welcome the chance to show what he can do, but there are few proven top club managers who aren't already employed, why leave a big club to take over a big club in turmoil?

I thought this was an intriguing paragraph and it's a surprise nobody picked up on it...

We also had another potential target, which would have involved one player leaving and another one coming in, but that didn't happen because we couldn't pull it off.

I suggest those who sneered at the Anelka in-McCarthy out story may have to re-assess their thinking.

Talk about using plausible interpretations to support one's own conclusions.

Just for fun...name one who would take it as of tomorrow.

Barca were awful and are starting to get it back but rumours are that Frank Rijkaard will depart at the end of the season anyway, I'm sure he would rather walk than be pushed. Jose is unemployed and I'm sure he would love to get one over on Roman and Avram. I agree that currently successful managers would not walk out but there are a few big teams struggling around the world.

The core of Liverpool's team is top draw. Reina, Carragher, Agger, Gerrard, Alonso, Torres. I would even be tempted to throw Benayoun in there. I'm sure with that base it would only take a manager 1 transfer window to bring in enough players of quality to turn them back into a force. Given correct management they are a far better team than currently on display.

RIJKAARD - would not leave Barca now when they have the Champions League and La Liga to chase.

SOUNESS - not happening at all.

AGUIRRE - got a Champions League place to chase at Atletico.

DOWIE, ALLEN, ROBSON, JOL, DAVIES, UNCLE TOM COBLEY - not Liverpool standard.

There are very few - if any - who could take the job at Liverpool instantly...that's why I think Benitez will be safe.

He doesn't even have any staff who could step in.

It's a shambles.

[Mind you they will probably win tonight and all will be well with the world].

a Champions League place to chase

There's a champions league place to chase with Liverpool, given they are 3 points off 4th with a game in hand. Granted they play like a pub team currently but that's due to not playing the best players and playing others out of position.

I'd sack him anyway, even if nobody wanted the job until the summer. He has his priorities all wrong for an English team, however it may be good news for us if he stays. They will probably slip further down the league. :xmas:

Jamie Carragher top draw your having a laugh a good team player yes, top draw no way.Hes a stopper and nothing else who's just about hanging on in there. Theres agreat picture of Carragher being out jumped for Barnsleys first goal .How embarrassing was it watching him play at right back for Svens England in the last tournament as he showed he had no pace, skill or idea.

A good club player though.

The whole future of the club is at stake here...if they miss out on the Champions League next season we are talking about the next Leeds United.

To echo what a few posters have already said I would really really love it if they did!

Arrogant scoose twots!

think the club should employ a Personal Physcholigst, seems to be doing wonders for David James who is in great form! maybe some players who have been lacking i.e. the Gamst's, McCarthy's it would do wonders for!!

i await the backlash of abuse

It appears that they've used one at Turf Moor for awhile now and convinced them they are a football team - and if that can happen, well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Reina's awful!

Personally I think Liverpool only have three really top drawer players: Torres, Carragher and Gerrard.

Benitez inherited two, and was handed a cheque for 26m to acquire the third.

Hardly inspired management.

Total shambles.

Who would axe Rafa if they lose tonight? The Americans?

Liverpool becoming the next Leeds Utd simply could not happen. There would be a queue to buy Liverpool if the Americans wanted to sell.

I think Newcastle are in more serios trouble - interesting that Ashley wants to sell the club (curious to know why he wants to sell) and has approached Dubia International. Why Rovers have not approached Dubia International is something to think about.

I'd agree with that Rev. Look at where they are in the league, and then consider where the hell they'd be without those three! They have some very very average players - such as Kuyt.

To be fair they are the least arrogant of the "big" clubs by a long way ....less arrogant than a few smaller clubs I could mention come to that .

There's something quite endearing about supporters who stay behind to applaud teams who have just humiliated them .

....and some of us still remember the great day when we won the title .

Oh how I laugh when I recall my mate dancing on the Anfield turf when G le Saux came over to us at the end of the game. We were on the front row of the Centenery stand and how upset were some of the locals ? Gutted that they had never seen their team win the PL at Anfield. In fact they were so much upset they had to eventually have a go at us. I dont mind as the 2 scousers got lifted, I was escorted round to the local nick inside the ground, handily adjacent to the Rovers fans and just as I got out what happened ? Timmy Boy was just being handed the trophy. Some of the finest photographs ever obained by me who had eventually to be moved on by the hordes of media as my frame blocked their lenses

TBH I couldnt give a rats arse about them, their debt or their standing. I cannot be bothered even thinking about any potential replacement manager. To hear great players such as carragher coming out and berating the club says it all. He is nothing short of mediocre himself, yes a fine club player but crap internationally.

The fat Spanish is walking the line. BTW Nicko, the way he creates such a story I would be worried in the press because the crap that spouts from his mouth always seems to find its way into the back pages. I might be a little worried that he fancied a career as a sports writer :rolleyes:

Liverpuddle did Inter 2-0 tonight so should scrape through to the next round although their crossing all night had all the elevation of MGP's efforts. Doesn't mean they will win the CL though and in fact a run into the SF should neatly condemn to about 7th in the PL and Nicko's Leeds analogy might be on.

For what it's worth, when I read Williams' comments about the ones that got away, Huddlestone was very obviously the target that his club would not sell and I immediately thought Anelka about the swap deal which did not happen.

Drat.
