On a more serious note...

Saw Sav playing for Derby today. I'd have to say that it may be the sale of the season to have got £1.5 million for him. He looks a pale shadow of the player he was. No excuses.

However the snag with that is the fact that the money should have been spent - and Quinton Fortune is a rather sorry attempt at a replacement.

I can understand why people are unhappy with the whole Fortune scene. And anyone trying to reason that it is a good option is basically an apologist.

On another note...

Jim Devine - West Ham's favourite linesman - is back on the Premier list. He did the Wigan game today too.

And on a final note...

The super soaraway Sunday People will be naming the guy who is buying Sheffield Wednesday along with his 'mystery partners' who I believe were also in talks with Rovers until recently.

The front man of the bid is called Geoff Sheard, who lives in Lancaster.

If anyone has any info on the guy, feel free to share...seems odd that a Lancaster man should be buying Sheff Wed along with his mates. There may be a lot more to this than meets the eye.

Talked to a Latics fan earlier, said Sav was completely sheeite.

I thought they were asian?

I believe it is British-Asian money...Sheard is the front man. From what I know of his background he does not have the £50 million or so involved.

It's also the same football agent who is involved as was part of the 'Asian' Rovers move a few months ago.

I don't do coincidences, I think it will emerge that it is Sheard, some Asian cash and some other allies.

They will offer around 30p a share, pay off the fans group and the directors, pick up the debt and put in some cash.

Interesting situation and also interesting to know what the Asian element will say about the Rovers move.

Like, why did it not happen...

How much did we get for Jay Mac and Todd?

According to one Derby fan, Jay was at fault for both Wigan goals today, and Todd has not had a happy time there either.

I think McEvely was about £700,000. He wasn't to blame for either but looks short at the top level.

Toddy is sadly over the top. Feel a bit guilty on that one because I told Billy Davies he would be a good signing.

Sorry, Billy...

Yeah because Premiership football managers regularly buy players on the back of what a journalist tells them.

He's been back from the start of the season. We spotted him a few weeks ago and yes, it was definitely him because he's married to my cousin, so I know him fairly well.

I don't get why Todd hasn't done well at Derby. He's not an elite player but he was pretty solid for us at times. Was one of our better defenders for a while - like Nicko, I was pretty confident that he'd do well enough at Derby.

Jay McEveley was nailed on to be a disastrous signing by Derby. Beneath the veneer of his composure on the ball, he is a clumsy, erratic centre back pretending to be a left back.

Thank you Nicko, just hope 'philipl' and co realise what a sad state we are in if we are seroius about Fortune hes a definite free transfer for Burnley.

Hoho. An another thread you're complaining about the Rovers selling the lad. Make your mind up.

But how much and on whom?

Is this freebie this summer value for money?

Wes Brown is holding out for £80,000 per week after turning down a £55,000 offer from Man Utd. (News of the World)

These numbers for Brown are even higher than the ones I suggested were the negotiating parameters a few weeks ago and got roundly criticised by somebody for being far too high in my guess. Brown is "only" asking for 90% of the value of Rovers' entire season ticket sales

An extra midfield player was needed, no question. Probably two.

If the club did not want to go the extra million or so - on top of the Sav money - to land one then that is something they are going to have to explain come the end of the campaign if they end up 10th or so.

The need for a new player in that area is being shown by Fortune's presence. There was also the Amdy Faye interlude. The squad is at least one short.

And I don't know what Wes Brown has got to do with that or Rovers. He was never going to be sold in January anyway.

The figures mentioned in the News of the World will include the agents fee which is now included in the player's wages. I said a few months ago that this will cause trouble - and it has obviously started.

Ok agreed we ideally would have signed someone for midfield.

But not one serious name of whom we should have signed has been offered.

It's surely the job of the club and their scouts to come up with ideas and suggestions.

Huddlestone was not likely to happen at any stage, Koumas was always going to be over-priced.

There are other players out there...sad to say, there seems to be a lack of imagination in some areas right now.

The Rovers Scouting system is alot to be desired......The last couple of players we signed from doing scouting reports and going and actually watching them we ended up with Maceo Rigters and Johnny Flynn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The other golden nuggets we have picked up have mostly been "Delivered" by various agents and certain circumstances and nothing to do with the Rovers scouts...........

You might have a point, Unleaded, but I'd be interested to know the background behind the signing of players such as Samba, Nelsen and Derbyshire of whom almost nothing was known before their arrival. Also, the likes of Bentley and Warnock had relatively little playing experience outside of the reserves before we bought them and Pedersen was something of a raw talent, all be it a internationally capped one, when he came to Rovers. My point is that surely all of these players, who have had a massive impact on the club, must have been extensively souted. Or am I wrong in presuming that?
