RibbleValleyRover Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 New deal for Tugay? http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_3197404,00.html
nicko Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 New deal for Tugay? http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_3197404,00.html As it stands, no. These quotes are from Friday's press conferfence when the manager was asked about Tugay's future and it was a 'wait and see' answer although he is still a fan. I don't think anything has been offered yet. In fact, I'm pretty sure it hasn't. With Sav gone I would expect Tugay to be given a one-year deal to stay - otherwise it would be another body down in midfield. Whether he wants to be a squad man is probably the deciding factor here. This won't get sorted for some time yet.
CAPT KAYOS Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 The guy's a legend - give him a chance as part of the the coaching team I say if nothing else - I'm sure he has it in him more than the 'FA Cup' draw he does at the moment.
modes98 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Whether he wants to be a squad man is probably the deciding factor here. Tugay should finish his career with us, just like Brad. Whether his body can take another season is another matter. The years have certainly taken their effect on our turkish delight.
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Tugay is a legend. I just wish we could put him into some sort of gene therapy to reverse the ageing process. Players of his type don't come along often anymore, part of a dying breed i would say. Would like to see him end his career with us and possibly have some future role with the club.
nicko Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Interesting news on the guy Geoff Sheard...the fella fronting the Sheffield Wednesday bid. He was once with the company Asics who were pretty big at Rovers about a decade back. Think he was chums with Mike Newell's brother Steve. If anyone has any more info on him or who his mates are it would be welcome... It does make me think he and his pals were definitely one of those groups sniffing round Rovers takeover-wise a few months back. There seem to be a lot of connections.
RevidgeBlue Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 New deal for Tugay? http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_3197404,00.html I'm a huge fan of Tugay, for several years after he joined us he's been one of our best ever players, but it would be a seriously backward step to offer him yet another deal imo. I think this season has been at least one too far already unfortunately.

Players of Tugay's ilk are a dying breed and those that play a similar style go for a hell of a lot of money.

True, but sooner or later we're going to have to bite the bullet and invest heavily in a quality replacement. We can't keep putting it off indefinitely. Must admit we're having a bloomin' good try though.

Very true, but isn't that just evidence you don't need that type of player to be successful?
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Very true, but isn't that just evidence you don't need that type of player to be successful? True, maybe we don't need a creative playmaker. But at the same time it might be a nice option to have as it brings something different and could change a game.
Mozzer Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 the two players that remind me of tugay are tom huddlestone and pedro mendes...last summer i would of said getting huddlestone could be a possibility, now i cant see it....mendes we could get tho.. i also would like tugay to stay..at 37 he can still run games-okay he probably wont be involved next season, but against teams like wigan, he can open them kind of teams up..

I wouldn't bet against Huddlestone leaving Tottenham in the summer, along with a few others. Hughes is a big fan too so wouldn't be surprised if he was a summer target.
OscarRaven Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Tugay deal needs to be sorted out before the end of the season. It would be a disgrace if he left Rovers over the summer without so much as a word. Deal or no deal we need to know before the end of the season.

I don't know. I would say Jenas and Malbranque are certs to stay. Any out of Tanio, Huddlestone, Zokora and Boateng could go. THey have pretty much their defence, strikers and right wing sorted. Big money will be spent on the central midfield imo, so I suppose their is a chance they will clear out all four. There will be rich pickings for the likes of us. I would back Hughes to turn any of those "rejects" into players far superior to when they were at Spurs. Huddlestone would be a great signing for us, but I can see Zokora with the right treatment and coaching being twice the player he is currently at Spuds.

Didn't Asics become Onitsuka Tiger? So, who's this "good signing" dirty leeds are buying then?
nicko Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Didn't Asics become Onitsuka Tiger? YES, I THINK SHEARD WAS WITH THEM IN THEIR ASICS FORM ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO. So, who's this "good signing" dirty leeds are buying then? DOUGIE FREEDMAN DEAL MAY BE CLOSE...
