It has been reported on these pages quite often that Rovers carry far more clout and respect within the FA and the EPL than just an "ordinary Premiership club".

Probably explains the continuing presence of former Chairman Rob Coar on the Rovers' board when all the other directors from the old days stepped down in the streamlining two years ago. I also think JW's reaction to the idea whilst entirely reasoned also gave a hint that he was far from surprised by it.

I am now left wondering that far from Scudamore blundering in the way the 39th game was annouced, perhaps it was done in a way to draw the sting out of all the criticism allowing a chance for a revised idea along the same lines to hold sway. Again reading between the lines, the FA Cup 5th round Premiership away day suggestion might be a pointer.

Orlando is on the list of five venues for the games and look who has just been to Orlando on 5th round week-end. Of course its a coincidence.

Bizarre i wouldnt have thought our opinion mattered enough to the premier league to be one of the 4. I was convinced that it would have been the usual "big" 4.

The story is correct about the 'friendly four' which makes the whole thing quite interesting...

It's not been just the greedy fat cats at the top who are involved.

Always good to find out little nuggets like that.

So a scheme that has been slammed by the ordinary fan around the country is suddenly acceptable...?

I was one of the minority who didn't slam it.

Acceptable...no; Helpful to the Rovers in the big scheme of things...probably; Inevitable...yes.

In the Disney v Murdoch battle for global media domination, sports rights matter and there are no bigger global sports rights anywhere than the English Premiership.

Look at ESPN's Star ratings across the Far East for their coverage of the EPL (incidentally far better and less biased than what is on offer from the BBC to name but one domestic offender). In the short term it is all money money for the EPL BUT if ESPN do outbid BSkyB and buy Setanta and you put that together with ESPN's superior global reach (controlling most of the EPL's most lucrative overseas markets) then suddenly Disney will own English soccer and can do what it wants with it.

...and Disney is in Orlando and who were Disney's guests two weeks ago?

We've been through this till the cows come home in the other thread - it wouldn't be helpful for Rovers in the scheme of things either. Aside from the obvious objections it would drive wage inflation and leave us in at least as bad a position as we were originally. I would say the huge negative reaction and the lack of support of FIFA has hopefully killed this idea.

The reality of the issue is simple Mr Nixon.

Burnley FC DO NOT want Premiership football. They for one could never afford it, even for 1 season.

Burnleys supporters may come out for 1 season but would quickly disappear into their holes as soon as it goes t*ts up after the first game.

The Town of Burnley wouldnt want it due to the repetetive damage caused by inbreds after each game, imagine having to rebuild the town centre 18 times in 10 months ??

Rovers fans in general would welcome a Rovers v Burnley derby game, we are guaranteed 6 points or passage in a cup and we are guaranteed sell out capacities, both at ours and theirs.

I can see the board of BFC gettling slightly worried IF their form improved to make them serious play off contenders, and by that I mean just how could they be expected to financially sustain just a season in the top flight ?

For one, the £30m they would receive would ALL have to be spent on players, that alone provides a massive problem because just who would want to play for them ? At best, they would hope for a team of cast offs and journeymen.

Secondly, policing costs would spiral, taking a big chunk out of their coffers.

The wage structure would implode the club because as we kow, not many players would play for less than £28-£30k a week.

The staff they have at their disposal NOW is nowhere near as good as Derby's and look at their performance. We are talking of an outlay of some £40m on players alone. Out of their current crop, maybe 2 players could hack it in the Premiership. After watching Panicbyee's miss, they need 4 forwards alone, 5 midfielders and a complete new defence and goalkeeper.

That in a nutshell is why BFC will not make it to the promised land of big bucks.

We saw last season and before that, PNE shave the post and just missing out on promotion, now they are where they belong, bottom 4 of the championship and nearing relegation to Div 1. Thats how I see Burnley next season after this season tails off. They will go back into oblivion and continue to be a struggling championship club.

I am sorry to say it, but its just the way it is.

As I write, QPR are blasting Stoke away. They are the clear favourites for play off glory IMO.

More talk of Sidwell being a possible target for us.

Can't see it happening myself due to the wages he is on at Chelsea.

Sidwell going to West Ham. Big money, big wages, little ambition.

On that basis...one to avoid.

Hi Nicko,

Any truth in all the rumours around Chelsea at the moment? Seems like half the team's leaving if you were to believe every rumour.

Chelsea have so many players that some are bound to get upset.

I can understand Joe Cole being unhappy about missing the final.

Shevchenko can go, Drogba will probably leave and Ballack and Lampard are still too similar. As for the rest, would they get a bigger wage or better club elsewhere?

The answer is no and that's the problem for most of the Premier League clubs who would like to have them.

By the way...big weekend of results for the Rovers top-six hopes. Even bigger when Woy's Boys come along next weekend.

I might be collecting my Premier and Championship bets after all - as well as the League One triumph too.

Feel free to quote this in a couple of months Nicko - fraid your 'Burnley to be promoted' one is wasted money, fighting chance with the 'Cov to be relegated' one though (I hope ;) ). What's the League 1 one? Swansea? Or Cov to be promoted next season?

Leeds. Promoted. 5 to 1...now 3 to 1 after just one result.

Two more signings and it's on.

Distinct lack of action since the loan window opened.

Seems a bit pointless.

Far from it if you look at the top of the Championship. There have been a few significant signings. And the deadline still has about three weeks to go.

I see they are all happy with Randall...

NOT!

What's that supposed to mean?

The kid was terrific against Coventry. He didn't get used against Watford because it was a game for men and not boys.

He'll figure enough in the run-in and the play-offs.

From what Ii've heard the dingles are happy with Randall but they think coyle should cash in on lafferty. According to my dingle mate he has been a complete waste of space this season.

I personally believe its unbelievably sad that so many people on this board seem obsessed with Burnley, I mean come on guys can we re focus 'our information man' Nickoon what is relevant to us?? I MUCH preffered reading all the speculation about who we may / may not go for etc.

I haven't been able to read the Mail link as it appears to have gone but surely this has been obvious from the beginning:

When there is something unpalatable to say the hardest thing is to get it said. Once it's in the open and the furore has died down the opportunity is created to slowly but surely gain acceptance with a quiet word here, a decent dinner there.

This leak was all about testing the water and discovering exactly who would have to be wined and dined before the Global Premier League becomes reality.

Was the Mail link suggesting Rovers have been a leading advocate in these discussions? I would very much like to know what this article was about.

This is something I have hinted at the other thread about it.

Wool and eyes comes to mind.

Burnley are currently losing again - this time at hull

that would mean that in their last 7 games (since february) they have only picked up 8 points out of a possible 21

gotta say nicko - that certainly isn't promotion form!

oh and in anticipation of a biting comeback ;) , rovers have picked up 12 points in the same amount of games.....European form anybody?
