I don''t think he sounded peeved, he was just saying that all the contract talk in the papers was from the club and not him. He said his agent was dealing with it so he can concentrate on his football. As for the money statement he was saying that you go to work to earn money but its important for him to play football as well and thats why he left arsenal.

It was a typical honest interview from bentley and he seemed happy enough to be at ewood.

the interview with bentley and money talk was for the one with him saying walcott should leave arsenal to get more games. he was saying that walcott needs to earn a living and if he sits on the bench, in the future he wont be getting payed good so he needs to look else where if he wants to earn a living.

Vogel is definatly a interesting one.

But i'll throw in the usual negative questions before anyone else does.

If he's so good why is no one else looking at him? (maybe they are?)

" " " " Why hasnt he played for almost a year ?

I'd guess that he's being viewed as one for next season.

1. He's doing nothing at Bettis so he may as well train here giving us the opportunity of assessing him long term.

2. Also most (not all) foreigners need time to adapt to the pace of football over here so it's prob useful to bed him in now.

3. We are vulnerable and weakened even if we pick up just a couple of injuries in central midfield.

4. Mokoena had a hissy fit a couple of months ago about not playing regularly. :wstu:

1) Dunno, maybe they are.

2) Odd contract wrangle with Betis. He thought he was a free agent last summer and Everton tried to sign him, but pulled out when Betis demanded money. He's been in limbo since.

I guess this thing happens from time to time. A player gets hacked off and falls out with the management. he will have had more than enough money to take an extended break if he wanted to. In a way it is suprising more footballer don't have a little haitus in their career. But then I guess to get to the top you are going to be the dedicated sort.

Good player, in the mould of what we need. Not someone who relies extensively on pace so could potentially be a siging for a few years rather than a stop gap. Former Dutch Player fo the year. Presumably he know Ooijer from his time at PSV so will know something about us, maybe been recommended to us.

Fitness has to be a massive issue. Usually it takes six weeks and four warm up matches to hit full top fitness...But again if he is going to sit back this might be less of a problem.

What a rubbish comparison. First of all, "only signing quality to improve the starting eleven" is the right thing to do NOW - it wasn't six months ago when we had to replace players like Mickey Gray (Berner) and Francis Jeffers (Rigters) as squad players. We needed cover, we got cover. Rigters was a young striker with a good u21-championship behind him, and he came at a reasonable cost.

As for the Wenger parallel, Blackburn can't afford spending money like he has done. Why should we forget that? Williams and Hughes can't. Wenger has spent well, no doubt about it, but players like Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner and Clichy has all been BOUGHT - and that's without even checking those who didn't make the grade.. We don't have money to sign players for our reserves, we need strenghtening NOW! Do you not agree with that?

What you haven't taken into consideration is that John Williams has been repeating this for a few seasons. He generally seems to speak sense but other times, he seems to be spouting unrealistic idealism. A while back he said that Rovers will only sign genuine first team contenders and use academy graduates as squad players. That is blatantly not going to happen any time soon - especially as many of the academy graduates are not good enough to play for Gretna (Rostyn Griffiths...) and those that have potential are left to acquire experience from thin air.

And then we went on to sign Mokoena, Berner, Rigters etc. etc.

I agree we need strengthening now. But I also happen to think that spending fair - not excessive - amounts on potential would be a sound policy for Rovers.

To be fair, Treacy, Peter and Olsson would probably have had a turn or two (and rightly so) if they had not been injured. And the youngster signed in January - Jonathan Flynn- was touted as one for the future. 14 of the youngsters have got squad numbers not including Rigters and so they assumedly train with the senior squad on a regular basis.

It is a difficult situation. Given that we are in the business of winning games, personally I'd rather stick with the tried and tested.

Incidentally, anyone notice that a Mr James McEveley was in the Actim Team of the Week? scoring the same number of points as a Mr John Terry.........

Rovers lost 1-0 to the Columbus Crew mob...a side made up mainly of reserves and hopefuls...and Rigters.

Vogel is training with the first team.

I hear that Fortune may be injured...no further comment required.

Dont be too harsh, Rigters hasent had an oppertunity really.

Less said about Fortune the better but i like Vogel so hopefully something happens with him.

I've read it on Dutch news-sites too. Rovers are planning to contract him for the rest of the season. He'll probably needs two weeks to gain some fitness. After that, it can go two ways: He can adapt fast and become extremely valuable or he proves to be too slow, too weak and too scared.

The time he played in Holland, he was fantastic, a great controller of the midfield at PSV Eindhoven. Don't expect him to give great impulse to the attack, but we have enough players for that (DB, MGP and DD). He's great for the balance in the team. I really hope he's still fit and in good physique, than we have a great great signing...

Fingers crossed!

I remember that quote, but like Roversmum says - Treacy, Olsson and Peter would be a part of our season if they were free of injury. It's an audacious thing to aim for, and clearly we're not capable of doing it now, but who knows what JW actually said - we haven't really signed anyone to play be a 3rd of 4th choice, with the exception of Berner. I don't consider Rigters here, since he is a young player who could have a future (for all we know..).

I agree we need strengthening now. But I also happen to think that spending fair - not excessive - amounts on potential would be a sound policy for Rovers.

Like 400-500k on the top goalscorer in the last u21 European Championship?

So can we expect a decision on Saturday like his agent is saying, Nicko?

He wasn't playing against CC ? Any reports of his fitness levels ?

Anything you can come up with, really.. ;)

Also, would you say the decision lies with Rovers or with Vogel ?

In recent seasons MH has signed Kuqi and Jeffers, both of whom were not Premiership quality but both of whom were sold for a profit. I wonder if he saw Rigters as a similar sort of signing-someone who he could sell for a profit or if he saw him as one for the future. Either way, he doesn't seem to be working out at the moment.

Having see Treacy play several times before he made his first team debut, i think the tag he was given of being an up an coming potential first teamer was for me a highly unfair tag to put on the lad in the first place. Expectations then became higher than was possible but whose fault was that, was it the clubs, or the local media (Neild Telegraph)

Has its now become that, that same unfair expectation has been placed on young Flynn.

We have been linked with Farfan on more than one occasion. He is apparently unsettled at PSV.

Looks a bit raw but we could develop him. I would think a few clubs would be in for him if he was available.

If he can only play right wing (not sure), he would not be a priority signing for us.
