No, no, no, no, no, you just don't get it. I have no problems with him paying to watch games. I have problems with him telling people to wise up and turn their backs on the Premier League because it has gotten too greedy, yet he gives them his hard earned money, which goes right back into the game and helps fund the greed he is so against. He preaches at the rest of us to turn our backs, why won't he?

Fife, I have nothing personal against you, I'm sure you are a great guy, but either stop with talking down to everyone, or stop with doing exactly what you preach to us not to do, supporting and helping sustain the greed.

Oh dear! I thought I had explained all this several times in my many (and obviously boring) posts. I will try once more to put it in perspective, and after this I will never utter another word on this subject. It is obviously something people understand or they don't, and as I pointed out in my last post I am just one bloke with a point of view, and I alone cannot change anything.

1. I am against the way the premier Leagues in both England and Scotland are set-up and managed as I believe they are quite deliberately designed to promote the interests of the Big Clubs, at the expense of the smaller clubs and are designed to eventually corner the market in top players and completely remove any chance of small clubs winning anything worth having.

2.In so doing they are also going against the interests of all TRUE football supporters, and catering more and more for the rich supporters and the corporate entertainment market.

3. The governing bodies including the FA's are also fully involved in this and in almost every decision/dispute involving a big and a small club we know before they even meet which club is going to come out the winner. Is this corrupt or not?

4. The sycophantic media (press, TV reporting, pundits, etc) are also at it. They promote the interests as they see it of the majority in order presumably to sell more papers, get more viewing figures etc. They very rarely ever promote the view of the small club or the minority audience. This again is grossly unfair and dishonest.

5. Players and their agents are constantly working to try and inflate the wages of the players, and the earnings of the agent. And all this just helps still more to isolate the few rich clubs from the poorer or smaller clubs, and directly helps to make the PL's less and less competitive. Eventually the chance of any club, other than a tiny handful, winning the league becomes impossible (and we have just about reached that state already). Is this what the majority of genuine football fans want to see?

6. I know few if any will agree with me on this point, and that is that football as a mass entertainment has gone steadily downhill for many years now, but it has accelerated since the Hillsborough disaster and the enforcement of much smaller ground capacities by outlawing the standing terraces, which in turn has reduced both attendances and atmosphere. This I honestly believe is ONE of the contributory factors in the production of the more sterotype, and less entertaining football that we see today. I know it is by no means the only one, but to someone like myself that has seen the game played over a 60+ years span, you can see the difference over time, and can actually trace a marked change for the worse from the mid 80's onward.

All these factors listed have contributed to my feeling that I and all true fans are being ripped off to put it mildly. In truth I feel that the football authorities are quite deliberately and cynically exploiting us, and metaphorically raising a two fingered salute to us all. Something like 'Rollup. rollup you mugs, come and have £50's worth of "entertainment"'

I have found that watching the lower leagues is more or less as it always was; damned uncomfortable, usually freezing cold, but true supporters and friendly fans all round. There is no segregation, you can have a friendly banter with the opposition fans, AND even more important, you can go into the clubhouse bar afterwards and have a pint or two, and discuss the match with both sets of fans. Also the game itself is played and refereed in a genuine sporting spirit. You don't see many (if any) instances of players "going down easily" or feigning injury and trying to con the ref. You do see quite a few hair-raising tackles, but it is usually no quarter given or asked. I find it entertaining anyway; possibly you may not.

Oh and I nearly forgot! These lads are playing for the love of the game, not for money. They are ALL part timers and probably get wages of less than £100 for their efforts. Two or three nights a week training after work as well.

Well there it is: I have said my piece for the last time. You must all decide for yourselves how you see things and what if anything you want to do or say about it. I must also point out that in all my posts on this subject I have never asked anybody to desert their club or to take any action at all that they themselves did not agree with. I do what I see fit; you must do the same whatever it is. And finally to deal one last time with the accusation I have had of hypocrisy, and not being true to my principles by continuing to watch Rovers on TV whenever possible and thus contributing (albeit in a small way) to the very thing I am against. I have admitted on a number of occasions that this does indeed cause me some soul searching. I have to admit that according to the letter of the charge; I am guilty. I have already pleaded as such, but asked for mitigating circumstances to be taken into account. These being that having been a Rovers fan for over 60 years and supported them at the gate through virtually all the bad times, and for most of the "good times" being only able to see them intermittently, and in the last 2 years not at all, I plead that a special dispensation or understanding should be applied as I am now all but housebound and cannot even get to my little teams any more.

Over to you for the verdict! (Why not start a thread for the verdict....."Is Fife Guilty or Not Guilty?" with Den as the Judge)

Hecky thump Fife. I get into enough trouble on here without you putting me in the firing line.

Incidentally, I agree with a lot of what you say, apart from the interpretation of the lower leagues, the football played there/the behaviour of the players and the fans. I really don't see any difference between those fans and the Prem fans. Football supporters are a much friendlier bunch nowadays.

Hmmmm..... Don't want to disagree with you Den, but when ever I DO get to Ewood (and this has been so ever since the new stands were built) I sit in the JW Upper and I have tried many different areas in that stand. The result is ALWAYS the same. You sit down and the people around don't speak at all unless you speak to them. This is not so in the "Stand" at either Cowdenbeath or East Fife. As soon as you sit down there the person next to you says "Hello" or something similar and you are away to a good old chin wag straight away.

Just heard Wigan will struggle to get a team on the park at Portsmouth on Saturday.

Boyce, King and even Fiigueroa all flying back from across the pond. Koumas, Palacios and Brown suspended. Edman and Sibierksi crocked. Possibly Kirkland too.

Home win at 4-5 on Betfair or 2-1 if you fancy ht/ft.

Possibly the bet of the season.

Any more news about Wigan Nicko? Planning a bet you see

Palacios, Koumas and Brown banned.

Boyce, King, Figueroa and Valencia landing this morning.

Edman injured.

Team - Kirkland [fit?] - Melchiot, Boyce [tired], Scharner, Figueroa [tired-debut] - Valencia [tired], Skoko, Kilbane, Taylor - King [tired], Heskey [fit?].

I can see a backs-to-the-wall exercise, so my ht-ft bet is a gamble, but they will surely lose over 90 minutes.

I am thinking handicap 0-1 to push the odds.

Reyes being linked with the Geordies for £5m. He would be a good signing!

I think he'd be a great signing for us too! He could provide competition both on the left of midfield and upfront. I'd take him in an instant if he'd come here.

I am hearing that Stephen Pearson has joined Derby from Stoke - and Chris Lucketti has signed for Southampton - AFTER the Football League deadline.

Both moves were 'in the pipeline' at 5pm but not complete.

Why have deadlines then?

I'm still annoyed about the Man City/Portsmouth business.

Problem is, if you complain no-one is interested. Very annoying.

You can bet if lill ol' Blackburn got beyond a deadline it would be a definite no-can-do.

BLATANT PLUG ALERT...

Might have a good tale for Sunday about a very decent player on the radar.

Will be interesting to see if anyone guesses this one. Probably will in about five minutes.

NO more clues. Some people are too good.

He doesn't like the cold or teh rain, so a no-no for me.

That used to be Arteta's problem, he seems fine with it now though. Sometimes players grow up.

Not much good for our fans though - isn't Reyes a gypo?

No more clues? Were there any clues there?

Is the player in question for Rovers (I assume so) or someone else?
