Saints are more likely to lose the 10 points than Coventry at the moment although both are more likely than not to avoid the hit.

However, Southampton probably would have done a Leeds if they went down but for the Football League closing that particular loophole last year when Leeds went into Administration after they knew they were a 16-0 victory on the last day away from certain relegation.

Diouf determined to quit Trotters

I don't like the guy but he is a decent player, how much do you think he would cost nicko ?

I'm guessing that teams like birmingham or wigan would be interested ?

He's a good player and certainly has the quality we're lacking (pace) in abundance. That said he's a thoroughly unlikeable character who's been on the receiving end of much abuse at Ewood. There's very little chance of us signing him (never say never in football).

A few of us have a few pounds on Coventry going down when Nicko tipped the wink about administration issues, although that didn't take 10points from them, the bet still could yield £180 for myself and more for others. :rover:

It's £500 for me, I'm cheering on Wednesday tonight.

Nicko - any idea what punishment might be dished out to Shef Wed for having too many loaned players in their squad for the game vs Stoke the other day?

Surely after the West Ham rule-breaking decision last year with Tevez/Masch this is nothing!

(or will it count against Shef Wed that Sir Trev is not a supporter....?)

BBC, a fine expected to be in the region of £2k.

Billy if you had to watch Cov then maybe you wouldn't defend them so much. I used to know a few season ticket holders, they are now all ex-season ticket holders.

Ricky: Didn't think it was that much for you. Drinks are definitely on you. Come on Wednesday.

I think they have a problem...Leeds did this last season and were fined but they LOST the game, so could not be hit with a points punishment. Sheff Wed got a point and Stoke missed out on two, so this is a tricky one. And both ends of the table are involved.

They usually look for precedents, but there isn't an exact one.

I remember Stuttgart had to replay a European tie with Leeds over something similar a decade ago.

What have Coventry ever done to you lot! Living down here for almost ten years now I have to say I am developing a real soft spot for them. I really hope that they stay up and would love it to have them back in the Premier league (only if it means a really close away game!) I have been to watch them a few times this year, although not since the managerial change and they have been indifferent! There have been some real sparks just not consistent enough.

In the Mail today, mouthing off about how he wants to play in Europe.

Is someone advising him to agitate for a move?

It *is* more or lkess every effing day and it's getting on my donuts something rotten.

The only reason i dislike them is the stick i got from Cov fans whilst at school for when we were in Div 1 and they were in the premiership. Mind you winning the Worthington Cup shut them up and relegation to League 1 would just about seal my revenge muhahahaha  Either that or the thought of £180 ;)

I wouldn't want the spitter in a rovers shirt.

I honestly don't think he means to come across sometimes the way he does. He is open an honest and says exactly what he thinks without thinking how it will get turned around. What player who plays in the premiership could say that they didn't want European football. Bentley also knows that to be Mr England he needs to show what he can do against the big boys and Europe is where he thinks that is. (unless he moves to one of the big boys where never playing regularly in your Premiership games means that you are entitled to a call up)

He does enjoy all of the media attention he is getting. Don't worry about going off and playing for Liverpool/Man U, it wont be long before the lad is off to America and thinking he is Becks

(I appreciate that all this should be in the Bentley thread)

From what i've read parts of the press are reprinting Bentley's comments made a few weeks ago in order to stir up a potential move for him. I don't believe Bentley is coming out on a daily basis with these comments.

The latest quotes come from people who spoke to him after the Reading game. He seems to talk a lot to the southern press when he goes there, I don't think his quotes are a worry, but it is a pain.

Remember he has also signed for The Sun, so anything else he says will be picked up and used by all other papers. Name of the game.

You are quite right. Sometimes they haven't even bothered to switch the words round from the original quote and just re-print the words. I think he originally came out with all this a few weeks ago on Goals on Sunday and they have been running the same story ever since.

It's quite obvious that Benni is behind all this agitation lol

I'm getting to the point where i am starting to not care anymore what happens to him.

He is probably at this moment in time our best player, and i would love to see him stay. But if he goes then he goes, as long as we get a decent price for him and Hughes gets the money to spend then fair enough.

What will make me incensed is if he goes for the £12 million figure that is being banded about. Considering the lad is an England international, with 3 years? left on his contract, you should be lookeing IMO at £15-20 million just to get Rovers thinking about the possibility of selling him.

Anyways to get kinda back on topic.

Nicko have you heard anything about Rigters? I heard he got a Possible hamstring injury, which could mean his season is over. Last i heard was they were still assessing it, heard anything for definate?. It would a shame to see his loan spell come to an end.

If he leaves he leaves - simple as that. I have total faith in Hughes finding an equal if not better replacement. I agree a little with what Hunt said last week - he is talked about too much because he is English. Dont get me worng he is a very good player but he is only one player.

Anyway, i cannot think of a single who has left our team in a "big money" move and actually progressed as a player. Yes, they may have won things, but they have always left their form at the front door on the way out - duff, dunn, shearer, berg, may, bellamy and so on.

It was in the 'papers a while back about how he could become a worldwide brand like Beckham, but that in order to get there, he'd have to sign for a bigger team.

On teh flipside, he does just seem to care about being successful at football, so it might just be a matter of persuading him he can achieve what he wants here. (Although no doubt he'll move on eventually.)

Nicko's right, the Times spoke to Bentley after the Reading game but I'm not sure if there was ever 'a sharp spark of ruthlessness' when Liverpool was mentioned. A bit of creative licence.

On a more positive note, I spoke to Roque after that game. He's a very cool dude and seems very happy at Rovers.

Wasn't Bentley's exact quote something to the effectof "I'll let you guys answer that". So of cuorse they did, with their typical "Bentley is leaving!" headlines, when the substance is nothing more than, he didn't answer the question. And why should he? we all know that if he continues to develop, he'll want to move to bigger and better things, so why should he ever be forced to say "I'm staying." Its a bad career move, and its bad business for him.
