It would be better than those cheerleaders!

Sheff Wednesday grabbed a late equalizer against Coventry.

It was in the 'papers a while back about how he could become a worldwide brand like Beckham, but that in order to get there, he'd have to sign for a bigger team.

Whoever told him that is a moron. Don't get me wrong, he could play for a better club than ours (although I don't think he's THAT good and will never be considered one of the best around), but Beckham is a special combination of things, a perfect combination of things for creating a brand like that. Bentley will never get close.

Diouf determined to quit Trotters

I don't like the guy but he is a decent player, how much do you think he would cost nicko ?

I'm guessing that teams like birmingham or wigan would be interested ?

If he came to Ewood I'd stop going until he was sold.

Well part of what made Beckham so popular is that he would say very little and be seen a lot. Sort of like the Queen Mum. If he had said anything about anything it would eventually led him to be criticised heavily no matter what it was. Such is the way of the press.

Beckham is a great advert for keeping your mouth shut. So whilst Bentley has similairties to Beckham in some ways, that is certainly not something that has rubbed off on hi,m.

That said I prefer Bentley speaking out. He is an intelligent guy who is honest. Rather have that than someone who has no opinions, even if on a football side of things it isn't ideal. If footballers were all silent workhorses a la Duff it would be dull and vaguely inhuman.

Give me your address, I'll send you one :D

On the Bentley front, I wish he would shut up too. However, I am one of those on the camp that thinks we will do just fine without him. Good player, but I still don't think his leaving would be such a huge impact.

Wasn't Bentley's exact quote something to the effectof "I'll let you guys answer that". So of cuorse they did, with their typical "Bentley is leaving!" headlines, when the substance is nothing more than, he didn't answer the question. And why should he? we all know that if he continues to develop, he'll want to move to bigger and better things, so why should he ever be forced to say "I'm staying." Its a bad career move, and its bad business for him.

Bentley will not be going anywhere for awhile - he has already been quoted with comments towards Theo Walcott, saying the latter would find football life a lot better outside the so called top 4, as He (bentley) has done. Bentley wants to play football, he wants to be seen playing football and a regular in the first 11 - being a squad player is not something that interests him. At Rovers he is in the team week in week out - which is why he will stay at Rovers.

From what I hear Bentley is definitely not going...and Manchester City - the only club I heard with interest and possibly money - are now looking elsewhere because they know they can't get him.

The only worry is that the longer the new contract issue goes on the more he will probably look for if he is starting to believe his own publicity.

Either way he is under contract and there are NO serious bidders on the horizon.

So, don't fret.

Rovers scouts were at Doncaster v Leeds last night according to local Leeds fans, any names up for suggestion as to who they may have been watching ?

A bit shocked by that...but will check. Just looked at the teams and nothing stands out. The midfielder Stock has always been good but failed at Preston. No kids coming through either. Get back to you if there is any news.

That is a pretty definitive statement Nicko; I just hope it does not come home to haunt you this Summer.

Even if it did come to haunt Nicko who do you think would be more upset....him or us

What have Coventry ever done to you lot! Living down here for almost ten years now I have to say I am developing a real soft spot for them. I really hope that they stay up and would love it to have them back in the Premier league (only if it means a really close away game!) I have been to watch them a few times this year, although not since the managerial change and they have been indifferent! There have been some real sparks just not consistent enough.

Must say I've always liked Cov since the day they beat us to hand United the title in 1994. I know that sounds stupid but the reaction of the Coventry fans towards us at Highfield Road that night was brilliant. Lots of shirst and scarves swapped with all the Cov fans on the pitch singing "we love you Blackburn, we do" and "who the F*** are Man United" in unison with the 6k or so we took that night.

Not sure if anyone has seen this:

http://bp3.blogger.com/_z5hT1P0X79c/R_NRQQ...Footballers.jpg

Top 40 footballer salaries in the world. Apparently Sol Campbell is on 105k a week and Kewell is on 76k. Not bad work if you can get it...

The likes of Campbell and Ballack attracted top wages as they took advantage of being free agents - their signing on fees were massive.

I very much doubt Darren Bent is on so much when Tottenham are known for not paying massive wages.

Agreed, I have happy memories of that day too, I was just a kid. Think it was my first away game actually, and the Coventry fans were sound.

I'm weighing that against my current resentment for them due to that 4-1 defeat in the Cup...but that's our own fault mostly anyway, and you can't blame a team for winning.

I don't see a club on the horizon for Bentley. That could change, but as it stands, he is at Rovers, in contract and not as unsettled as some reports may suggest.

Nothing is ever certain, but right now I don't see any reason for the collective concern.

The only thing that matters is that the guy is playing well for the team and not letting this talk trouble him. I don't think he has been put off in any way.

You can never control the future, but at least the present suggests to me that he is doing all he can to get the club into Europe...that is all you can ask.

There are no big stages this summer, with England out of Euro 2008, so there is no risk of him becoming the hottest thig on the market either. I would be reasonably relaxed about all of this, but that is easier for a neutral to say.
