tony gale's mic Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 As I've said before, if he signs the contract then we can hopefully hang onto him till 2010 where he can go for big money after a good world cup (hopefully). His current contract is till 2011 so he'd have at least two years left. If we don't hold out that long, we should be able to sell him for silly money with that many years left on his contract.

Jan Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Unless Bents ditches his girlfriend/wife and marries someone with a public profile, Becks he'll never be. At least 50% of Beckham's success in sponsorship terms comes from having a wife who is instantly recognisable, and for some, a style icon. And she's dressed Becks in the way he needs to have been dressed to further attract attention. I'm not saying Bents isn't pretty enough- he is- but without the high-profile pushy partner, he's just another pretty footballer.
Russ Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Stuck the Fenerbahce v. Chelsea game on in hope of 1) seeing what this maldonado guy was like we missed out on in Jan (if we were ever in for him that is!) and 2) what this udur boral (LW) is like, our scouts supposedly watched him a few weeks ago. Waste of time really, Fenerbahce have barely touched the ball!!
thenodrog Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Not sure if anyone has seen this: http://bp3.blogger.com/_z5hT1P0X79c/R_NRQQ...Footballers.jpg Top 40 footballer salaries in the world. Apparently Sol Campbell is on 105k a week and Kewell is on 76k. Not bad work if you can get it... Poor Lucas is a pauper by comparison....... he'll be hammering Curbishleys door down when he sees that list!
nicko Posted April 2, 2008 Author Posted April 2, 2008 Fluminense playing Libertad in Copa Libertadores tonight...if anyone sees it on the other side of the Atlantic and Nelson Cuevas figures please feel free to let me know.

It certainly is a factor, especially when it came to establishing himself when she was a spice girl, but the brand has taken off in some areas almost all on its own. I'd say that the vast majority of people who know who he is don't know who she is. You can quite easily say that the only reason she has remained in the spotlight, unlike the other spice girls, is because of him.

Setanta Sports 2 - 1:45am I'll Sky Plus it and have a look tomorrow after work
EwoodGlory Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Cuevas started for Libertad last night. I only got a chance to watch the first 10 minutes this morning before I had to come into the office. Nothing of note upto that point, apart from a decent run half the length of the pitch, played a 1-2 but put his header wide from inside the box. They got beat 2-0, will have a watch of the rest tonight.
rover6 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Behold the obsessive nature of the football fan - taking time out in his busy life to watch a random game to scout a player that may or may not one day sign for his club and may or may not make an impact greater than that made by Javi De Pedro. Very impressive EG!
thecomebackid Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Nicko; You might remember several years ago, Dalglish when at the Ewood helm reportedly offered Bolton £8 million for Stubbs and MacAteer combined, the deal hinging on whether both would agree to come to the Rovers? It eventually fell through, ironically, due to the latters reluctance to choose Rovers before his beloved Liverpool - where his game went down the pan under the tutelage of Roy Evans, but that's another story. Bearing in mind my last suggestion on this thread for a Rovers signing (Andy Reid back in November) was not dismissed out of hand by your good self, I would be interested in your opinion regarding a similar type offer to our free falling neighbours in respect of Gary Cahill, Gretar Steinnson and Matt Taylor? All three would be decent squad players and potentially good first teamers. All three fit the 'profile' of the Rovers type of player, decent footballers but can mix it when it matters. All three would be available. My opinion was formed after seeing Bolton several times live on the English Premier League channel over here (not generally the most pleasant or Kosher experience watching the Pigs' Feet) where of course there is local interest in the newly acquired Tamir Cohen. Although Cahill and Steinsson were both culpable for two of Arsenal's goals at the weekend, overall I've been impressed by the their commitment and willingness to take responsibility in an otherwise sinking ship. Can't say the same for the likes of Nolan and Diouf, who have been suggested as potential targets by others on this forum. Gary Cahill, Gretar Steinnson and Matt Taylor £6.5M offer in the impending Bolton firesale?
nicko Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 I remember the Stubbs and McAteer bid very well... But I wouldn't be bothering with anyone there just now. Cahill has a get-out clause at arund £8 million which is way too high and I don't think he is better than you have got. I don't know what Matty Taylor does - is he a midfielder or a left back? He's certainly not a support striker. And while I like Steinsson I don't think he is any better than Emerton. I think they will have buyers for a couple when they go down, but I don't believe they need to sell too badly after the Anelka departure. They would also look to bounce back first time, so their players won't go anywhere cheap.

Very impressive EG! From only the 10 minutes, I can guarantee he will make a greater impact than Javi De Pedro If anyone else wathced it, how boring was the commentary? the guy really could have done with a co commentator.

But I can't believe he would have a better song.

Very impressive EG! I know, the things we do huh. I knew this bloke once studied the fortunes of a third division mamager and then touted him as a Messiah for a struggling Premiership club. Can you believe that chit.
EwoodGlory Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Nicko, do you know anything about the English player that Liverpool might be signing? Guillem Balague has mentioned something on the TheGame site. I mentioned in the podcast that we had discussed the senior player already signed by Liverpool but the part were we did talk about him got cut off in the final editing. it is not one you mention in your posts, but we will soon know who he is.The name might cause surprise but remember whe you hear it that he can also play right Posted by: guillem balague | April 01, 2008 at 02:59 PM Link

Guillem Balague has mentioned something on the TheGame site. Link If it was that good a story - and he was sure about it - I am sure Mr Balague would have got it out in public. The story, that is. I know what you might be worrying about, but I wouldn't be too concerned.
EwoodGlory Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Cheers, I thought he would be keeping quiet about naming it so he doesn't 'huff' his mate Rafa. It says somewhere that its not somebody that was already mentioned, so I didn't think it was Bentley. Would be funny if it was Wes Brown
philipl Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 This is the perfect way of gently breaking it to the unpleasant scousers that they have got a Manc joining them when you think about it. With Gillett and Hicks not talking to each other, who is around to write the cheques? Liverpool might well have to scrimp if the ownership and stadium situations are not sorted.

Would be funny if it was Wes Brown If he knows who it is - and it IS a done deal - then he can't harm it by saying. Would suspect the target may be a right winger...Pennant is so far in the cold that he has got frostbite.

Would suspect the target may be a right winger...Pennant is so far in the cold that he has got frostbite. Wouldn't mind Pennant in Blue & White halves... as long as he loses the Peter Sutcliffe lookalikey look..
EwoodGlory Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Aye, Pennant and Benayoun don't seem good enough if they want to challenge for the title I did hear a couple of rumours, could well be rubbish though - Pennant plus £8m for Bentley, from a liverpool fan - Tottenham have agreed a deal with a club to sell Lennon, so they can fund a deal for Alves from Sevilla.
tcj_jones Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I've always regarded Pennant as a good right winger and with a good delivery, but he's hardly played in a year now and I'd be worried about his fitness. Lennon has so many great attributes, but his inability to deliver a good final ball means that he will never be a top player.
USRoverME Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Hmm, that does seem to ignore Beckham's reputed 500k a week though. Dear Lord some people are thick.... I'll say for the 100th time at least. Beckham's 'contract' is not all footballing. That reported figure includes merchandise sales, a reported stake in the club (in fact in a recent interview he hinted that he has an option to buy the club outright at the end of the curernt deal), appearance fees, etc.... His actual footballing wage is reportedly $5 ot 6.5 mil /year which doesn't put him on the list and is not extravagant. editing to add link and clean up spelling: All MLS player wages
modes98 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Aye, Pennant and Benayoun don't seem good enough if they want to challenge for the title Benayoun is a very talented player and if liverpool would let him go then Hughes should be in there making enquires, but i doubt they will let him go. Pennant is a hit and miss player. Brum fans describe him as the Andy Cole of the wing, 10 crosses and 1 is dangerous.
waggy Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 [. Gary Cahill, Gretar Steinnson and Matt Taylor £6.5M offer in the impending Bolton firesale? out of the 3 teams going down only bullard and barnes should intrest us,and maybe davies at a push simon not kevin
