can you guys sense a change in the market? i mean, there's quality players out there not getting game time due to overpriced foreigners getting in before them. i can seriously see some good players, walcott, crouch, huddlestone, lennon etc looking for clubs outside the top 4 and create themselves a lot like duff and bentley have done / doing.

the clubs selling them might not want them gone on the cheap but come contract time, they maybe forced too. which could be to a club like blackburns advantage.

Nicko i don't want to sound like a broken record, but anymore news on the Bentley contract negotiations?

I'm expecting there to be some interest in the summer, and him signing a new contract should further strengthen our position if a flurry of bids do come in.

Same problem, no prgress, but no real need to worry.

If Bentley thinks that playing well to get Rovers into Europe and then making the England team for the end-of-season games is a reason to play well, then so be it.

I would rather have a player who was worth something - and trying - than one sitting back and taking it easy.

By the way, Man City are now looking at Valencia at Wigan rather than Bentley...they know that they can't get your guy and he probably isn't interested.

As it happens, I would take Valencia if Bentley ever did leave. Quick, skillful, reasonable wages.

Definitely, what with Capello's stance on being in form and playing regularly at club level to get in to the National team, could mean that players with a hint of ambition will be looking at other clubs, after looking at say what has happened in Bentley's case.

As long as the price is within our budget then we could pick up a few decent players.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night!

he's looked a quality player in recent weeks and really stepped up a level since he first joined Wigan.

You can see why Hughes was originally interested in him.

Speaking of City Nicko, how seriously are they about Ronaldinho? I'd love to laugh it off and mock them as usual but there is always a worry that Sinatra could put in serious money so wondered what you thought.

Totally off-message and maybe/maybe not on the right thread.

But if anyone has ever been dumped at the wrong airport by Easyjet or other such 'operators' please let me know.

I have had to fight for the past nine months to get a taxi refund of £131 from them after they ditched me, mrs nicko plus one of the nicko-ettes at East Midlands and not Liverpool...and won after being backed by the Air Traffic Users Council.

If anyone has ever suffered in the same way and wants to know how to get the cash back just get in touch.

The trouble is that Frank Sinatra and his sidekicks and their hangers-on would probably be duped into thinking this is a transfer that would work. I know the Thai dictator is upset that the ground is not full, so he might fancy a showbiz signing.

When you have someone with no idea about football but lots of money you have a recipe for disaster.

Sven hardly speaks to Frank, so there is trouble ahead here.

I can see a situation where Ronaldinho and his brother-agent uses this to whip up interest, gets Frank to offer him fortunes and then tries to match it elsewhere.

It's all rather sad and predictable.

Walcott is getting alot of games for Arsenal now, although i could see him being loaned out.

Crouch should leave, he showed last game what a threat he could be.

Huddlestone has been messed about by spurs in playing position so i doubt he is high on ramos' keep list.

Lennon is a strange one, but the spurs fan i was talking to last night is 90% sure he will look to leave this summer.

Defoe is also showing that a move to 'a less fashionable' club can be a sound platform to relaunch his international career. He looks twice the player now that he is not being used as a perrenial sub in big club squad politics.

I think one could criticise Hughes on not moving fast enough for Valencia. If I remember rightly, Unleaded repeatedly reported to us on just how tardy Hughes and the team were being after making the initial approach. And then Wigan came in.

Could someone set me straight here, am I right in saying that Intertoto is indeed likely to be seventh? However, if we fail here there is still the possibility of applying to join the Intertoto but we'd have to begin at the very beginning in early June?

5th europe.

If we finish above Villa and Pompey win the cup we will get into the Intertoto.

Pompey haven't applied, according to what I've read.

Correct. It's between us, Villa and Man City. Whoever finishes higher gets into the intertoto. The Portsmouth situation is irrelevant now, we just could do with beating them. :rover:

It was actually all over the news at the time. You know how these Beckham things are. I'm not sure what you're getting so worked up about.

Oh I dunno, I suppose there's an off chance I got annoyed at being called thick simply because I haven't read/heard something that someone else has. If I did that with everything I know that others don't, I wouldn't get anything else done. And neither would most people. I just considered it a pretty jackassed remark. Probably about the third time something similar has happened to me on this board, and I've seen it done to others too- people seem to love to leap in with insults here just because somebody else didn't read something they did.

Actually I think they were both playing against Sporting Lisbon Mr Fife!
Oh dear FLB you have not been paying attention have you? If you read both my posts you will see that I do know who plays for Rangers, especially when I have seen the whole match, and also when I get both Rangers and Celtic and their entire entourage rammed down my throat every time I turn the TV on up here.

In my first post I was pointing out that Davis (Rangers) had played ok against Porto until he very obviously ran out of steam about half way through the 2nd half. In the second post I was pointing out to someone who was saying that he preferred Hemdani, that he (Hemdani, Rangers player) was rubbish in the match against Porto. Where is the problem?

Oh dear. I'm almost embarassed for you.

The problem is, as FLB said, Rangers didn't play Porto on Thursday night, they played Sporting Lisbon!

Perhaps you ought to turn the volume on that TV up a tad

OMG! How's that for the boob of the year? Turning up the volume is no use to me any more I am afraid; I still can't tell a word they say, unless I go and watch it on the little portable in the back bedroom! For the whole match (and of course ever since) I was convinced I was watching Rangers v Porto. Still ne'er mind eh? It comes to all of us in turn. :)
