BiggusLaddus Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 That's my line of thinking. Granted you probably will never beat that figure but his goals are priceless for Man Utd, in the CL and PL. Nothing is priceless. Its not as if he is the difference between them finishing 1st or 5th in the league, even without him they would still have their noses in the champions league trough. It depends on whats more important to Mr Glazer - oodles of cash or trophies.

Hughesy Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Real Madrid wouldnt pay more than £30m for him - thats just media talk! They always get their man for much lower than expected. If i was United I wouldnt sell for any amount. He is the difference between winning the prem and finishing 3rd or lower. You cant just lose a 40 goal a season player and say it wont impact on your team!

It depends on whats more important to Mr Glazer - oodles of cash or trophies. Rooney and Tevez have 23 league goals between them, Ronaldo has 27 on his own. I don't think they would be anywhere near the top of the league without him, but with £100m they could sign 5 or 6 players to try and replace him i suppose. In the CL i think Ronaldo has 10 goals in his last 12 games, which isn't to bad.
philipl Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Don't Real have a history of not exactly getting round to coughing up the cash when they buy for headline grabbing amounts? If Christina were sold, the Glazers would never darken the portals of OT again without the sort of personal protection that would be offered to Osama bin Laden if he popped over to negotiate a truce.
waggy Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 all ronaldo needs to do is make it known he wants to leave, and utd will have no choice
modes98 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 all ronaldo needs to do is make it known he wants to leave, and utd will have no choice Or Ronaldo's mum. She has been short in saying that she wants her son to move to spain.
joey_big_nose Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 all ronaldo needs to do is make it known he wants to leave, and utd will have no choice Very true. A la Van Nistlerooy or whoever. It's all up to him. I can't see why he would go though, what has he got to gain at the moment in Madrid? He is the focus of possibly the best Man Utd team that I have seen, people talk of him as being the best player in the world.
T4E Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I'm not convinced... it'd be unreal if he had another season like this next season. I appreciate he's only 23 but for his style of play it may be his peaking age. I would take that money right now and let him wither away in the Galcticos Reserves like McManamanamanamanaman did. There's only one place I believe Ronaldo will succeed and that is in the Premier League at Manure. I must say I agree to an extent - it's hard to imagine him having another season like this. Having said that, I think he could be a success at Real, as could he at Barca. There is a lot of middle ground between being a "success" and having another season like this one.
JamieUK Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Very true. A la Van Nistlerooy or whoever. It's all up to him. Ruud's scored 45 goals in 72 games for Real Madrid - He's still one of the best strikers around...
joey_big_nose Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Ruud's scored 45 goals in 72 games for Real Madrid - He's still one of the best strikers around... Yes, thats my point. Van Nistlerooy decided he wanted to go and Utd had to sell.
LeftWinger Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Did Ronaldo not say he wanted to leave in 2006 - and Fergie made him stay - and since then his game has come on unbelievably. I would love it if he left though
joey_big_nose Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Did Ronaldo not say he wanted to leave in 2006 - and Fergie made him stay - and since then his game has come on unbelievably. I would love it if he left though If he had wanted to go enough there is nothing Utd could have done about it. They could make him play with the reserves but then they would just wipe millions off his transfer value and unsettle the squad. I am sure it was more a case of Ferguson convincing him to stay than forcing him to. You can force a player out the door but you can't lock them in.
brian_gallagher85 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 This arguement is entirely pointless, As we know Fergie will sell him whenever he wants to; just like he has done with Stam, Beckham, Keane, etc, etc
BuckyRover Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I thought van Nistelrooy was forced out by Fergie?
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Nicko any clubs possibly sniffing around Pienaar after all the stuff publicised in the media about his future? I'd be suprised if Everton don't sign him, he has been pretty good for Everton this season and its reported they can get him for quite a cheap fee. From a Rovers point of view he could be worth looking at in my opinion.

I think Everton will sign him and he wants to stay, so I'm not paying much attention to any talk about other clubs etc. He's OK, but again there are better players around. On that point I believe Everton are heading for some trouble this summer - Fernandes won't be bought, Carsley is getting older and Arteta looks fed up. Could be needing two or three new midfielders and don't have the money to buy them. That's a club you can overtake next time, although it will take money and a couple of smart signings.
broadsword Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/7341485.stm Any truth in the rumour that Gerrard hasn't left Liverpool because of physical threats?
Rover9 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 The gangster threat to Gerrard thing was doing the rounds, back when he suddenly did an about turn and decided to stay. Don't know why they are digging it all up again really? But if he helped them out then they probably feel a duty or something to keep him onside I suppose

I know Everton have big support but it amazes me how they keep lurching from near bankruptcy to big money signings -- 11.25m Yakubu, 8.6m Johnson. I'm assuming they are more in debt than the 20m reported at Rovers. Nicko - do you have any idea on their financial situation ?
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Blackburn are ready to snap up striker Jason Lampkin from Manchester United. (Daily Mirror) Any possible truth to this Nicko?
nicko Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 Blackburn are ready to snap up striker Jason Lampkin from Manchester United. (Daily Mirror) Any possible truth to this Nicko? The lad is training with Rovers and will be released by Man U. He was an England schoolboy international striker but wants to go elsewhere. Worth a look.

Bill Kenwright has several powerful and wealthy friends who help him out when he wants to make a big signing - people who know people etc. That's what happened with Yakubu and maybe one or two others. Their big problem is going to be moving ground and paying for it. That could be a major millstone in time.
Eddie Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Could be needing two or three new midfielders and don't have the money to buy them. ...sounds familiar.
1864roverite Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Moyes has been on tv stating he intends to close the Pienaar deal as soon as he can, so it looks like they will get him fora fee previously agreed believed to be around £4m.
