The only thing more ridiculous than Giggs or Scholes coming to Ewood, is reading that apparently some people wouldn't want them!

I don't think it's a ridiculous idea. The boss could have laughed off the thought, but didn't. Sometimes it's a good thing to float a suggestion and see if there is any comeback.

You also have to remember that Scholes and Giggs are both former team-mates of and, in Giggs's case, a mate of the manager.

So IF they ever left then there would have to be a chance.

But I agree with your second point.

I just found him a fake at Leeds, all Blarney and no stones.

I never liked his incessantly finding excuses for his squad underperforming. Fair enough managers should rollock their players in private, not in post-match interviews but O'Lry took it too far the other way.

Worse than Souness and Lady Luck :)

Yeah, why would we want good players?

Nicko any word on this?

Liverpool could be forced to sell Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel if they fail to pay back a £35.1m loan used to help buy the pair. (The Times)

He also didn't laugh off the thought of another former teammate, Beckham, and while that story probably sold a few papers, it was as realistic as us signing Ronaldinho.

Nicko, why do you feel Everton are heading for problems? Is Arteta off? How has Fernandes done? I'd kill for their midfielders to be in our side. They have Lescott and Jagielka at the back and Yak up front. Where are their problems?

I'd take Scholes in a flash. Ridiculous that some wouldn't want him! Jesus...

Id second that. They lack decent wide players but through the middle in defence, central midfield and up front they are in a really healthy position. They also have strength in depth.

Lets look at this scenario.

Scholes playing just in behind TWO centre forwards and just in front of the midfield.

For me he could and would be an amazing signing. Think about how many goals he could score and set up playing in a Rovers team ?

His vision would be be a god send for the likes oc Benni and RSC.

If he is available snap him up.

As for Ryan Giggs, well for me it just proves the fact that manure fans know FAFF all about football when they rant and rave about how poor he is. The man STILL has the magic and for me its the same as Scholes take him on a freebie.

Even if Rovers had Giggs and Scholes for only one season - it could help push Rovers on above 9th place in the prem - especially a top 5 or 6 and possible 4th. Being in Europe is money for Rovers that they need - which would make the signing of these two players more than commonsense. Also experience often compensates for age - Giggs and Scholes would bring that to Rovers, which would benefit the younger players.

I suggest that Mark Hughes was being sounded out when asked the question about Giggs & Scholes.

Fernandes won't stay - they will not pay the money.

Arteta is unsettled and could go to Spain.

Carsley is not getting any younger.

I don't know where Phil Neville plays.

Andy Johnson is struggling and no partner for Yakubu.

Funnily enough I think the signs of their problems are showing now and will get worse.

scholes and giggs at rovers would be amazing, regardless of them being at the latter end of their respective careers. playing scholes behind the front 2, i think we would need to also look at an out and out defensive central midfielder to play that role in a 4-3-1-2 formation, because i don´t feel reidy is suited to that role and haing not sen vogel, i can´t make comment on that.

for as many years i can remember, we have been crying out for the scholes type of player and getting him (if it happens) would be brilliant.

Any idea of what kind off fee Valencia want?

He would be my first choice midfielder this summer, without seeing Bradley play that is.

Valencia want £10 million. Believe me, he's not worth it. He's a talent but there is a lazy side and only a few teams could live with that,

There are three groups - at least - trying to control Liverpool right now. Gillett, Hicks, the Dubai brothers.

Expect all sorts of 'black' publicity from one camp about another until it is settled.

Bad times ahead.

Just been thinking today - it will take one of the big four to implode now for anyone else to crack the Champions League.

I don't see ANY club gambling heavily - maybe £100 million - just for the reward that a Champions League place brings.

Sad but true.

Giggs and Scholes would be amazing signings, even if Giggs probably only has one more season left playing regularly.

However... would they come? I don't think so. They're both United icons, played there their whole careers, and would probably retire the day they were told they weren't wanted anymore.

But who knows really... Sir Alex isn't sentimental. If he thinks the team is better of without you, you're gone. Just look at RvN, Stam and Beckham. All key players, all of whom were still on top of their game. But Ferguson had other plans, and they were gone. Keane (Although he was probably done as a footballer) left, there was no hesitation about Veron despite the loss of money and prestige.

The reason I bring that up is that if United sign a winger in the summer, that would leave them in a very strong position at both LW and central midfield, and Scholes + Giggs might be surplus to requirements. And I think they're both ambitious enough to not want to sit on the bench while they feel they're still up to it.

Yes, I realise I've contradicted myself with paragraphs #2 and #4. But everything is possible really, however unlikely it might be. However I think that at least Scholes will still be a big part of United next season, and that it'll be his last. Giggs... will probably feature less, but he'll still be there. I do think that *if* they were to leave, we would be in a good position. If they were to move abroad it'd only be for a season or two, and the only reason for it would be the money; it's not like they have anything left to prove. And it's not like they weren't paid well at United ;) So assuming they don't want to move at all there's not much to choose from; We can discount City and Liverpool straight away. Which would leave Everton as the only other realistic option.

However there are a lot of assumptions, but's and if's there. I don't think it'll happen, I don't think it'll even be talked about seriously. But without the crazy speculation the off-season isn't much fun is it? So I'll expect to be reading a lot about this on here ;)

Ouch, I thought they would offload him for less than that. After his time there I thought it would be around the £6m-£7m mark.

I know he comes with baggage, but if he didn't he would be off the radar completely.

Maybe they will have to loan him out again, a bit of good form and they might recoup closer to what they paid.

Whilst a great player, the way Scholes tackles he'll be off every other game. Without the red shirt of invisibility and wearing the blue and white yellow card attraction kit he'd have no chance...

It would be interesting... which wins out.... the Rovers "dirty" tag, or the carryover "manc legend" tag..... Will he have enough prestige left over from his glory days to offset the 'blemish' of the blue and whites in the eyes of the refs... I'd love to see him signed just for that "study".

Every logic points to Scholes and Giggs moving out of OT soon BUT

we are talking about two of the Mancs all time greats and they aren't to go without some sort of emotional good bye. If they were going, the red hankies and all the razzmatazz would be getting ready.

But united have a title to win first. They wouldn't want to rock the boat with Chelsea getting close again. SAF is talking about splashing the cash in the summer too at the moment so they'd have plenty of time to think about letting them go when it's job done. Testimonial/ farewell type game as a preseason friendly between a Utd side and an invitation side. Perfectly possible.

Scholes might have a decent season or two left in him but Giggs is a very long way past his best. Wouldn't go anywhere near him personally.

Couldn't see either of them being a success at Ewood really though, they are both Manchester United legends through and through and I can't see what the motivation would be for them in playing for Blackburn Rovers, or indeed any other team.

In any event we need to be signing hungry up and coming players with things to prove, not players in their mid thirties whose best days are behind them, in Giggs' case, a long way behind them.

Why, has the passage of time suddenly turned Dwight Yorke from a complete flop into a Rovers legend or something?
