roversmum Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Got the paper against my better judgement. WHERE is the Chris Ronnie article?????????????????? That's £1.80 I've wasted this week and last. Cross.
Iceman Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Nicko what is this chris ronnie twist all about.what you waiting for, just let it out lol,he wont be taking over rovers right. We all know sidwell is joining rovers next season.and we know valencia aint better than bentley.which of those am i right.
philipl Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Thaksin mucking about with Managers at Man City could be doubly beneficial to Rovers as it looks like the rest of the Prem are falling on them to mine proven players from a top half side if this morning's press is any guide. Richards, Johnson, Ireland and Dunne all linked away. This Tongue to Rovers for £4m rumbles on- surely an agent playing silly whatsits and nothing more? Its in the News of the Screws. Are Chelsea really offering £80m for Messi? Would be sensational to see that little genius playing in the EPL.

Iceman Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Cannot see Barca selling messi at any price Phillipl.there is a talk of a mass clearout at the catalans.one of those players looks to be Eidur Gudjohnssen.would love to see him at rovers, but not sure what barcelona would want for him.Nicko do u know anything about the guy,who said Rijkaard would be leaving, only for Rijkaard to deny that.there has been talk that Josep Guardiola wil take over, with their board furious at whats going on.Henry to Chelsea apparently, altho cant see that happening.
Rob of the Rovers Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Admittedly I haven't seen too much of him (I always seem to miss the Wigan games), but what is all the fuss about Valencia? He looks average at best to me....

Gudjohnsen is on huge wages and has hardly played for two years. Rijkaard will probably go. His time is up. Henry's form has proved Wenger was right. Past his magical best, but still looking for a fortune. Someone might take him but it won't be the same. Messi and Chelsea is possible, but I don't think they will blow that much on him. Great player, but I suspect it would be too physical for him here, he looks a rather sickly child for all of his blinding ability.
philipl Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Admittedly I haven't seen too much of him (I always seem to miss the Wigan games), but what is all the fuss about Valencia? He looks average at best to me.... Agreed- one of those where you instinctively read the hype and feel Rovers missed out then see him play and say, "no, Sparky was right." Half the season, Valencia was coming off the bench. Yesterday he scored a fluke then a very good goal but benefitting from a semi-detached Villa. Martin Samuel who is always an interesting read wrote in his Times column that Abramovich will always feel that his Chelski revolution is half complete until an acknowledged world's best is at Stamford Bridge and (unlike Shevchenko) is playing at his peak. And that means the Russian's financial might will be thrown into securing at least one of Ronaldo and Messi this summer. If it takes any price to get one of them, that's what he will pay. Kenyon has to get his man/men.
EwoodGlory Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 The Football League were alerted this morning. The officials were changed before the game and BOTH clubs warned that there was to be a probe. We have not heard the last of this story... I hope the Italians do the same. This seems very blatent in helping the team out who need the points. FORM LAST 6 Torino (16th in table) Lost 5, Won 1 Napoli (9th in table) Lost 1, Won 3, Drawn 2 Napoli 10.5 on Betfair
1864roverite Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Lets get this right ! Ronaldo is allegedly worth £150m according to the press so, in my humble opinion £80m wouldnt even buy Messi's right foot never mind both of them ! Messi is worth triple what Ronaldo is worth. he has more skill, has more ball control, doesnt dive and is a more potent threat than Ronaldo ever will. So, if Chelsea are serious about him they better start the bidding at around £240 million and thats just for openers because Messi is on a 10yr contract and already earns vasts amounts of money. he plays for the Biggest club in world football that has the biggest stadium and has approx twice as many fans in the ground than Chelsea. So lets see, Barcelona or Chelsea in smog laden London Town ??? No choice, it is Barca
nicko Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 Any comment on this Alan? I know where the People got it from, I tried to stand it up for them last night - but without success. QPR's owners are so daft that it is possible...
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 I believe Messi is the better player out of the two. However like others have already stated i don't think Messi is built for the prem and would struggle with the physicality of it. Though saying that he managed to cope with a physical Man United back line the other week.

However like others have already stated i don't think Messi is built for the prem and would struggle with the physicality of it. Though saying that he managed to cope with a physical Man United back line the other week. I'd agree with all of that- except he would need to be playing in a team which gave him big physical friends and in those circumstances he could thrive. Chelsea's Essien, Obi and Makelele are hardly shrinking violets in that regard. For most Prem opponents, he would need to be doubled up on giving his side a numerical advantage everywhere else on the pitch. I would still hope Chelsea pull off the signing though as it would be fantastic to see him in the Prem. However, it seems the Kaka signing is much more likely. As to costs, there is a difference between total cost of ownership and transfer fee. The £150m figure is I believe a combination of transfer fee and contract plus bonuses and shared marketing rights. On that basis, Messi might be slightly less being not as pretty as Ronaldo.
Iceman Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Messi not capable of playing in the premiership.mmm,i think he is supremely talented and would be more than capable of playing in the premiership.if u have a girl(ronaldo) playing in the premiership then surely messi can play.
EwoodGlory Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 The big QPR announcement is that of a new club crest. Which looks like it has been modeled on Linekers ears

Ronaldo is what 6ft 1?, 6ft 2?, and looks quite built. Ronaldo has a clearly obvious physical advantage over Messi. Phillip raised some great points, in particular about Chelsea having the players who could protect him or assist him. Still undecided whether or not he could handle it though.

The Serie A side have watched the Sheffield United star this season and are preparing a pounds 3m bid while Gerard Houllier is likely to swoop in January." Was there any truth in this story??
Commondore Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 According to a Swedish fan site Rovers has had scouts on Helsingborg games in the Swedish highest league to watch Benin striker Razak Omotoyossi. I haven't seen it mentioned here, but he is said to be valued at 2,53 million euros and being looked at by dutch team Groningen as well. He has scored 16 goals in 32 league appearances and 8 in 12 UEFA cup games. I kind of like his prospect, he has the largest thighs since Mark Hughes playing days and is a real runner. He has benefitted a lot from playing up front with Henrik Larsson and recieving good passes. http://gfx.aftonbladet.se/multimedia/archi...ter_242465w.jpg How about it Nicko?

Didn't your manager say that he is not in the market for a forward?
tcj_jones Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Ronaldo is the best player in the world. Messi is probably the second best. To suggest Messi might not cut it in the Premier League is bonkers. He could make it in any team in any league in the world. I still don't see how he's done enough to be classed as better than Ronaldo though.
Tom 1 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Flamini has ###### off to Ac Milan it looks like. Birmingham fans aren't very optimistic ahead of their match with you (I live in Birmingham), they've already given up on surviving so if your lucky their players might have as well, it'll be a tough game for yous tho. I heard Miguel to Villa as our new right back Nicko, thought there might be some bigger clubs in for him so not really thinking much about it, also linked to that Nelson from Benfica. Milner rumour carries on and you said quite likely will sign him up so see how it goes.

Arsene obviously didn't see that one coming...btu as he never sees anything bad with his players that's no surprise. No idea about the Portuguese right backs and Villa. They need someone for that position. Milner is a very strong link, but no fee is agreed yet.
