From Wiki: "Claudio Andrés del Tránsito Maldonado Rivera, or just Claudio Maldonado, (born on January 3, 1980 in Curicó, Chile) is a Chilean football player who is captain of the national side. He is a similar type of player to the likes of Ivan Campo, Mahamadou Diarra and Claude Makelele. Maldonado poseeses a great engine, top passing and tremendous battling qualities and is thought of by many as one of the best players in South America in his position creating an iron shield infront of the defence."

If this isn't one of Left Winger's entries, then I'd like this guy to sign post haste. Just what we need, in my opinion.

Now this is a random one? <_<

sounds like a good player!

turns out like cruz!were laughing!

There are rules about staying on topic though, and I can't see any threads that are about Fulham...

Can't see too many posts on this topic that stay on topic, myself. It doesn't say anything about "Nicko only answers Rovers-related questions."

Blackburn are to hold talks with Chile captain Claudio Maldonado over a £1million move.

Sounds like a gooden and a typical hughes move. How many international captains has he signed? ;)

At least things are heating up a little bit now. Shame it's taken 29 days as we needed them from jan 1st.

From tomorrow's Mail

Rovers hot on Chile skipper

Blackburn are to hold talks with Chile captain Claudio Maldonado over a £1million move.

Midfielder Maldonado, 28, has 39 caps for his country and has recently won the title in Brazil with Santos.

The Brazilian side have given Maldonado permission to join up with Rovers.

Manager Mark Hughes, who is also interested in Macedonian Velice Sumulikoski from Turkish club Bursaspor, is desperate to sign a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.

He turned to Maldonado after seeing a move for on-loan Rangers man Amdy Faye collapse.

Maldonado has an impressive reputation in South America as a holding midfielder and ball-winner.

i think a double signing of sumulikoski and maldonado for a few million would be a genius master stroke from hughes.

work permit delays could be a stumbling block though

Neither will have any problems with work permits. They automatically qualify:

FIFA World Ranking

45 - Chile

60 - FYR Macedonia

& they've both played in every match of meaningfulness for their respective national sides over the last 2 years.

I hate to use national stereotypes but Chileans are the least latin American of the South Americans apart from the Guyanas. If he's playing in Brasil, he's used to adapting to an alien culture and speaking a different language.

i spent some time in south america a couple of years ago and portugese and spanish are a lot more similar to each other than english is. still it is true about the climate...

I still think we are monitoring Huddleston at Spurs, and if they move for Tiago then we will move for Huddleston.

The south American player sounds good, not many bad players come from that side of the world and Chile aint a bad side.

Apparently Bolton are in talks to to Gudjohnson on Loan, surely something we must look at? Also rumour is that Megson is prepared to pay £3.5 million for Roberts. Would we take it?!

urggh, stop being so pedantic. spanish and portugese are a lot more similar to each other than english is to either of them.

I genuinely don't know the Portuguese language but I find with a combination of Latin and French knowledge and obviously my English, I can hack my way through Spanish- particularly written Spanish- but Potuguese is a closed book. Spanish has many of the facets of simplicity of structure that English has but is a so and so to understand verbally because of the regional spoken variants, many of which are coloured by totaly different languages such as Catalan and Basque which come from very different roots.

Are Portuguese and Spanish that similar etymologically? I don't know other than hearing Spaniards moaning about the wierdness of the Portuguese language.

Oops- sorry. Just seen your follow-up post. Thanks for that.

Any way lets hope we sign this Chilean and he finds Blackburn to his liking.

This transfer has hughes written all over it. National captain, cheap, quality passing midfielder, gets his foot in. This guy could make our side imo. Him and Reid in the middle would eb a very powerful combination. It is ludicous if we can get the Chile captain, a high quality cultured player who is 28, for less money than we sold Savage -33 - for!

If Roberts goes hopefully we can make a move for the Left winger/striker fella at AZ. Those two signings would leave us sitting pretty.

I haven't seen Maldonado play but I've heard and read good things about him. Hope he can adapt well to Rovers.

RSC and Benni can help since they both speak spanish..

Yes, portuguese is similar to the regular spanish. It's easy to understand. The problem for spaniards is that they are usually bad in all foreign languages.

And they have several local dialects.
