It appears the an unnamed club made two bids for Roberts and Mccarthy yesterday beleived to be BOLTON. Any truth Alan ?

The only big interest I can gather over the past month was in Roque and Bentley.

Man City asked about Roque and it wouldn't surprise me if Spurs did too, but they are professional time-wasters.

There is a big Bentley interest out there - and I will sit on it until the time is right. Being unusually responsible I have not written it or hinted at it. It may come to nothing by the summer, but if that alters you will be told.

Could Alves miss the Toon game on Sunday then?

I know they won't let it go, but I would imagine that he will play for Boro and AZ will have to go through FIFA for compensation.

Strictly speaking, Boro have done nothing wrong. The player is the one who signed a form with AZ when he was still at Heerenveen, so their action will be against him.

It's a funny old deal. But there have been plenty of them.

Bolton inquired about Roberts a couple of weeks ago, but it was a very wishy-washy thing - and Gary Megson isn't even a fan.

So it wasn't them and they didn't go near McCarthy.

Where is this from? Is it 'we didn't buy anyone but we didn't sell anyone' propaganda by any chance?

no my bolton winker mates texting me and winding me up lol

'Arry seems pretty 'appy about the Benjani mix up from reading his comments. Perhaps he gave the directions for getting lost at Heathrow!

Seems to be all down to a count back on document times between 23.55 and 00.00 as to who did what to whom.

Boro are, or should be, protected by the Dutch FA specifically clearing the transfer to go ahead after examining AZ's claim.

English clubs doubled the previous January record by managing to spend £150m this January (or perhaps £141m). That is more than the Spanish, French, German and Italian leagues combined. Sadly, the same cannot be said about the quality of players transacted.

Plenty of that from John Williams in todays LT who indicated we had received enquiries about five of our players.

We could have sold four or five of our players and brought in another five or six but that's not the direction in which we want to go."

(That indicates there are at least five or six players out there we could sign)

Indeed not. We sold a key member of the first team squad and didn't replace him.

Also from JW:

"We've got 14 games to go and if we have a bit of luck with injuries then we believe we've got a great chance."

Should we be gambling the outcome of the rest of the season on luck?

Nicko - Did Bolton not go fro Elmander for Toulouse, only to be told they wanted close to £20 million!? Thats what iv heard!

Yes, they went for him and the price was in that range. But that was about three weeks ago. The one they went for this week has not come out yet - and is not Lita.

Bolton are signing Rasiak. £500,000. Unbelievable.

Roberts won't be moving.

Got a great idea...will reveal later.

Does it involve a load of gold bullion in the back of a coach hanging off of a cliff-top?

Blimey, I'm away for 24 hours and there's 30 pages to catch up with ...
