philipl Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Wind-up merchant you. I still reckon they will come up short and I don't have them as favourites to come through the pack.

herbergeehh Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 So, if Burnley do get promoted, how many players would they need to sign to not become another Derby, Sunderland or for that matter Swindon?
revolutionrock! Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 So, if Burnley do get promoted, how many players would they need to sign to not become another Derby, Sunderland or for that matter Swindon? To many for Brendens Cheque book anyway.
DudeAbides Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 theres no chance they will come up, they havent the bottle for it or the stomach or the resources... dream on dingles.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Yeah, two points off the play-offs with just 16 games to go...how will Burnley close that gap? Two more points would put you...still eighth and praying for the Inter Toto. West Brom out of the way, Watford, Charlton, Ipswich and most of the rest to come. Bristol City and Stoke to be crushed under the cloven hoof on the travels. Yeah, that's the season over. Woah, you must really believe in Coyle's ability. Hull are now 3 points off 5th, with a game in hand over all the other play-off contenders, yet I think they'll still struggle to get 6th spot. How do you think they'll fair?
Plastic Head Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Two or three months ago the gap was bigger. The gap is closing... It's only a matter of time until t'Owen's wife is on fire in a t'curry house. Or t'centre-forward gets put inside for nicking t'ironing board from t'B & Q. Or t'town is recked coz t'clarrot fans don't like t'losing to t'seasiders and missing out on t'play-offs t'again. And god knows where t'blimp is by now.
broadsword Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I suspect a Mr S Garner is at teh controls, ready for a fly-by over the Turd on teh last day of the season.
nicko Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 I suspect a Mr S Garner is at teh controls, ready for a fly-by over the Turd on teh last day of the season. I thought there was a ban on smoking on aircraft these days...
nicko Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 As the Sunday People is somewhat chaotic this morning - production problems they tell me - the Rovers transfer tale is not in my edition and may not be in others. So, as promised. Nelson Cuevas - Paraguayan striker and pal of Roque's - is close to signing a pre-contract with Rovers for NEXT season. Cuevas, who was an international regular, has been out of football for a few months with an injury and trained with Portsmouth and Nuremburg recently. I believe he was to come to Blackburn on a similar basis, but the plan changed and he is now back home and playing on a six-month contract with a club called Gumarelo. I checked last week and Cuevas is telling people - including other clubs - that he is coming to Blackburn once he proves he is fit. I believe this is the guy I heard was 'in the pipeline' - although there could be another but I don't know. Cuevas was a sharp and lively striker, but a bit lightweight. However I can see the point in signing him if he is fit. He's a free, he would keep Roque happy. So watch this space. The Burnley-Argie 'on-off' transfer tale is in...but you will have to dig that one out yourselves.
philipl Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I thought there was a ban on smoking on aircraft these days... ... but not on radio-controlled blimps Thanks for confirming the Cuevas story- glad that one has not gone dead.
HATRIX Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg1lU-lS4aw...feature=related. 3 goals against barca aint to bad
nicko Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg1lU-lS4aw...feature=related. 3 goals against barca aint to bad If you want to keep up with his progress, here is the club's site. Have to admit I had never heard of them before. Hope the guy gets fit. http://www.clublibertad.com.py/futbol/profesional/
thecomebackid Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Any chance of an update on the City/Benjani debacle Al?
herbergeehh Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I like the sound of Cuevas, too bad he's not fit and sign-able straight away. He played with Aimar and Saviola for River Plate IIRC, let's hope they've stayed friends
nicko Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Massive development today, I believe. The Premier League were called in by Portsmouth, who say the deal is done and want the money. I am told the Premier will order Man City to take him - but that the terms may be different. If City don't take him it will be World War Three. However, there is also an argument that the terms of the deal should NOT have been changed after midnight. It is a different deal to the one agreed. Therefore it is a new deal and should not be allowed. So, that is not ideal but the alterntive is that Portsmouth are £9 million down - and that could even mean financial ruin for them. And if Man City were to be allowed to pull out it would be the end of the transfer market as we know it. It is THAT big an issue.
Flopsy Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 If City don't take him it will be World War Three. That I doubt somehow Still HAHAHAHAHAHA
nicko Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 Check Sacha Gaydamak's dad and his background...now there's a man with an interesting past.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 So, that is not ideal but the alterntive is that Portsmouth are £9 million down - and that could even mean financial ruin for them. An opinion from a Southampton lad - You make it sound like a bad thing Blummin' skates deserve all they get! An opinion from a football fan - Could this mean the transfer window being re-vamped or scrapped all together?
philipl Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Russian arms dealer v Thai despot These sorts of thiongs go on all the time, but not in public through a football proxy. Benjani's agent finds himself in an interesting position...
RevidgeBlue Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 So, that is not ideal but the alterntive is that Portsmouth are £9 million down - and that could even mean financial ruin for them. They won't be 9m down unless they're the first club to ever agree to pay for a player up front which I doubt. Probably more like 2-3m initially. Also, Portsmouth seem quite happy to use Benjani in the meantime, but still claim he is Citeh's player and want the money for him. How does that work? Surely they can't have it both ways?
nicko Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 They won't be 9m down unless they're the first club to ever agree to pay for a player up front which I doubt. Probably more like 2-3m initially. THE GUARANTEED PAYMENTS ARE SIMILAR TO WHAT THEY ARE PAYING FOR DEFOE...ANY SHORTFALL PUTS THEM IN REAL TROUBLE. Also, Portsmouth seem quite happy to use Benjani in the meantime, but still claim he is Citeh's player and want the money for him. PORTSMOUTH DIDN'T USE HIM YESTERDAY AND PROBABLY WON'T DO AGAIN. How does that work? Surely they can't have it both ways? THEY WANT HIM OUT AND THE MONEY IN.
nicko Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 An opinion from a football fan - Could this mean the transfer window being re-vamped or scrapped all together? If the deal is NOT honoured then it is massive. That's why I have stressed this is a huge, huge story.
bob fleming Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 The Argie "superstar" doesn't want to lose his rented digs in Turkey to make it in the big time at the "mighty" clarets?!? Well, that says a lot doesn't it. Fair play to the unheard of world beater though, £15K a week isn't to be sniffed at for a player of his ability. Best to stick it out in Galas reserves I say. Just as the gap was closing as well.
1864roverite Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I wouldnt mind, for 65 grand you can buy a palace in Turkey with land, beach and swimming pool PLUS a gardner and servantm, not to mention a 3rd and 4th wife and a dog !! What is all that about ? Maybe belvedere Roa wasnt for him having smelled he local air ?
Fife Rover Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg1lU-lS4aw...feature=related. 3 goals against barca aint to bad Hmmmmm............ reminiscent of Bellamy? Hopefully without the baggage!!
