LeChuck Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Missed the Ghana game...did Annan do much? PS...The Sun very kindly followed up the Mirror story on Chelsea's interest in Annan today - two days late. Have you misread/misunderstood Andy's post Nicko? I'm sure it was intended as a compliment to Hughes. With regards to Annan, I wonder if the club looked at the possibility of signing him and sending him on loan to Cercle Bruges for a year or so (as Man Utd did with Dong Fangzaou etc). If not then that's probably something we should explore with talented African players who can't get work permits immediately. Edit: Nicko, I see you must have changed the post as I was deciding whether to quote it or not.

LeftWinger Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 With regards to Annan, I wonder if the club looked at the possibility of signing him and sending him on loan to Cercle Bruges for a year or so (as Man Utd did with Dong Fangzaou etc). I think it takes three years to gain Belgian citizenship - so that's how long he'd have to stay there for before he didn't need a Work Permit. It's 5 years in England - hence the Belgian feeder club - or at least that's my understanding of the situation.
American Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 It also buys time while the player plays more for his country and gets a better shot at a work permit in England.
roversmum Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Oh yes please. let Rigters go to Leeds. He'll keep them in League 1 with any luck.
Backroom trueblue Posted February 7, 2008 Backroom Posted February 7, 2008 Oh yes please. let Rigters go to Leeds. He'll keep them in League 1 with any luck. Do you really rate Rigters that low mum ?
roversmum Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Well to be fair to the lad he hasn't had much of a run since he came here but what I have seen of him has been very disappointing. Maybe he'd be better going to Cardiff, perish the thought that Leeds might get something out of him
Backroom trueblue Posted February 7, 2008 Backroom Posted February 7, 2008 Maybe he'd be better going to Cardiff, perish the thought that Leeds might get something out of him Now that... I like !!
USRoverME Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Imagine though... how much fun you can have with the Leeds fans knowing that 'little blackburn's" cast offs walk into their team on loan......
nicko Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 Sounds like Nelson has an eye on Blackburn...as previously reported. http://www.setantasports.com/en/Sport/News...Blackburn-move/
thecomebackid Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Sounds like Nelson has an eye on Blackburn...as previously reported. http://www.setantasports.com/en/Sport/News...Blackburn-move/ Not the only Nelson suffering this particular affliction Nicko; should he decide to come to us, perhaps he should get his own column
ally Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Nicko, Can you tell us who the player was who Bolton bid £7 Million for yet ? Bolton Boss Gary Megson has revealed that Jermain Defoe turned down the chance to replace Nicolas Anelka at the Reebok. (Sun) maybe??
nicko Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 Bolton Boss Gary Megson has revealed that Jermain Defoe turned down the chance to replace Nicolas Anelka at the Reebok. (Sun) maybe?? Bolton tried for Pantelic - the Defoe story is just hot air.
unleaded Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Nicko you were right about Nelsen being out for a couple of months. The club first said that he would be out for ONLY 2 weeks and now have admitted that it could be another 2 and may be even longer.....Nelsen has never been the same since he signed his new improved contract and talking of contracts I see Williams is handing out new contracts like confetti........How the likes of Hodge and Kane can be offered new contracts at the age of 20-21 beggars belief.......Is it any wonder the wages are at 85% with Williams making decisions like this?
roversmum Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 They would hardly be 'Williams' decisions'. He would have talked the matter over with Hughes who in turn would have discussed it with Eddie, Mark Bowen and Gyn Hodges.
John Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I am sure Hughes discusses with Hodges who should be offered new contracts. So I would not blame Williams.
unleaded Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Get Rid Of Hodges Then!!!!!!!!!!!!If he CANNOT recognizes a good player like Mamdia keita (who has been "fast-tracked" by FC Hamburg in to there 1st team) then he is a big liability for Rovers in that he will allow "gems" to be stolen by other clubs........If he Has recommended that these 2 players should be given a new contarct and IHO Keita is not good enough to even train with the reserves of Blackburn then he should be held to account.........How many other Gems is Hodges and Downes going to allow to Walk out of the front door?........
rovers1993 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 and how many gems have these 2 along with others found and trained into the great players we have now?
Paul Mellelieu Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Here we go again. After from the Scholes/Beckham/Giggs vintage how many players have United brought through as regular first team starters?
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Nicko, I've only seen a couple of Blackpool games this season on TV, but you've probably seen more... do they always attempt to injure the best player on the pitch?
AggyBlue Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Get Rid Of Hodges Then!!!!!!!!!!!!If he CANNOT recognizes a good player like Mamdia keita (who has been "fast-tracked" by FC Hamburg in to there 1st team) then he is a big liability for Rovers in that he will allow "gems" to be stolen by other clubs........If he Has recommended that these 2 players should be given a new contarct and IHO Keita is not good enough to even train with the reserves of Blackburn then he should be held to account.........How many other Gems is Hodges and Downes going to allow to Walk out of the front door?........ Another player who I though was decent whenever I've watched the reserves was Rostyn Griffiths. I was taken aback find out he has been shipped out to Gretna. I thought he should have come under consideration due to our shortage in midfield.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 GREAT point for the Dingles today pffft
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 They'll be calling for old Coyleys head soon.
revolutionrock! Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 GREAT point for the Dingles today pffft Get in , WOO HOO. Remember, The gap is closing. Isnt it Nicko?
Hasta Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 The Championship is just bizarre this year. The saying of anyone can beat anyone has never been truer. We all take pleasure today as for the third time this season Burnley fail to beat the bottom of the league at home. However elsewehere West Brom get beat off Barnsley. I think Preston where more or less bottom of the league when they beat Watford the other week. Any team that can put a decent run together still has a chance of making the play-offs. The real eyecatcher in that league is Norwich. They were bottom and about 5 points adrift when Roeder took over. They have currently only lost once in their last 15 games, won today at Cardiff and are just 4 points off 6th. West Brom currently lead the table after 31 games and Colchester are bottom. With the same amount of points in each of the last 3 seasons in that league West Brom would be 4th and Colchester third from bottom. More proof of a wide open league. Unfortunately for Burnley, Coyle and nickos bet, the tribe from Turf Moor aren't good enough. From listening to local media and honest Burnley fans (there are a couple if you look hard enough) who go regularly the players are not good enough at the club. The anticipated mass incoming of players didn't happen and I think it is unlikely they can go on a run to claim a play off spot and then promotion. The feeling of the dingles at my work is that this team are playing more or less at their full potential and there is little else to give. I doubt that applies to every other team in and around the top 18 who all feasibly have a chance. The gap may well close one year, but it won't be this one.
philipl Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 The way it looks at the moment, 2 from the top 5 to go up automatically and 1 from 6th to 20th for the 4th play-off slot. The teams coming up this season are either going to surprise us all in the Prem next season or, more likely, going to be dog meat.
