Here we go again.

After from the Scholes/Beckham/Giggs vintage how many players have United brought through as regular first team starters?

I'm not sure if it's sarcastic or not, so feel free to ignore me if it is. But for the record...

Gary Neville, Phil Neville, O'Shea, Fletcher and Butt all are/were first team regulars. They've also received substantial fees for players like Richardson, Bardsley, Healy, Pugh and probably a lot of other players I can't think of off the top of my head. The young Northern Irish defender Evans (currently on loan at Sunderland) is meant to be a bit special as well.

Butt and the Nevilles were part of the same generation as Beckham/Scholes and Giggs.

None of the others you mention are first choice players. If anything Wes Brown is closest to that right now.

If United can't rely on their youth set up to develop top class players.....

Allow me to assist.

Giuseppe Rossi, David Jones, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Danny Webber, Jonathan Greening, Mark Wilson, Paul Rachubka, Danny Higginbotham, Alex Notman, John Curtis, Chris Casper, Phil Mulryne, Terry Cooke, Ben Thornley, John O'Kane, Jonathan Macken, Simon Davies......

All sold for decent fees, totalling somewhere around £20m.

Also Keith Gillespie was used in the deal to get Andy Cole from Newcastle.

Yes, it is. Down to one point.

And their transfer window signing scored on his full debut.

Think on both of those matters on Monday evening... ;)

Not a problem. On Monday night, when we're playing the superstars of Arsenal at the breath-taking Emirates Stadium, we'll all be sure to look over our shoulders and cast an envious glance at Burnley's performance in their home game with Colchester.

Exactly T4E. Your clutching at straws a bit there Nicko.

The point - and this keeps getting missed - is that the Championship is poor and promotion is there for anyone this season. Look at today's results again. There isn't a team in there, so it is wide open over the remaining games.

The fact is that Burnley do better against teams around them than those at the bottom. It is easier to play football with the players they have than try to break down defensive and physical sides.

This 'comfort zone' stuff about being in different divisions puzzles me. The future is as important as the present and the past.

Still, be content in having signed nobody in the window and leaving your manager trying to find enough fit bodies to fill the bench.

I'm not missing that point Nicko. Go back and see my second-last post over my opinion on the Championship. It's just I don't think Burnley are consistent nor good enough to capitalise on it. And neither do two of my Burnley season-ticket holding colleagues.

Nicko this is the Blackburn Rovers Messageboard ... :rover:

No harm in some friendly rivalry...

There is a wee Rovers story in the People tomorrow. Some news on your boy Bentley - and the club who are his secret admirers will be named.

Big clue to the story - I don't think it will matter who fancies him.

Getting out of the coke bottle is going to be down to being reasonably consistent if you are up there already (WBA, Bristol City and Stoke have steadily produced results) or putting a run together if you are not (Norwich are on a great run at the moment, Palace and Cardiff have run out of steam).

OK the dingles are a point and seven goals off 6th (and hoping Hull don't win their game in hand against Colchester) but I still don't feel they have enough to make it into the play-offs. Somebody is going to be close enough for a great run at the sharp end of the season to produce a glittering prize but nothing is convincing me Zac Coyle's hillbillies are the ones to do it.

Two games ago, I said the dingles needed seven or more from the next three to show they are automatic promotion contenders and at least four to be serious play-off contenders. Well they've got one point from their two games against top and bottom and have the mid-table team coming up. Let's see.

Is it because Bentley ain't going anywhere? His loyalty to Sparky is strong, and the club have several reasons to refuse approaches.

I would say Spurs are the admirers.

Nah,definitely barcodes.I think Nicko is referring to Dennis Wise or Keegan when he says it doesn`t matter who fancies him.

You're missing the point. How many are plying their trade in the top flight, never mind in United's first team?

Rovers could produce a similar list. Off the top the following have more Premiership games between them than Man U's list:

Ben Burgess, Peter Thorne, Neill Danns, Damian Johnson, Joe Garner, Martin Taylor, Damien Duff, James Beattie, Brett Ormerod, Jon Walters....

In the past three season, I reckon the Academy has recovered about half its costs in transfer fees and sell-on clauses.

According to the NOTW today the Clubs tracking Bentley are Real Madrid, Seville and Valencia whilst Newcastle retain an interest.

According to the story he ultimately ses his future abroad and is currently on 23k p.w.

Don't know if this ties in with Nicko's People story or not.

Burgess left 2002.

Thorne left 1995.

Danns [signed as a kid from Liverpool] left 2004.

Johnson left 2002.

Garner left 2007.

Taylor [signed from Sunderland] left 2004

Duff left 2003.

Beattie left 1998.

Ormerod went non-league in 1996.

Walters left 2001.

So that's one player - Joe Garner - who has been found and moved in the last three seasons...

Rev, Bentley has around 4 years to run on the contract he signed last year. Not that contracts mean much, but any bids recieved would have to be big to prise him away.

From what I hear the new contract in the offing that would make him the highest paid player on around £2million per year....thus increasing his buy out value in any transfer deal.

For 140,000 pounds. A pretty dreadful performance. Ormerod, Dunn, Taylor, Duff and Beattie were not Academy produce either. I think it's time there were changes at the Academy. The lack of talent coming through is alarming. Downes has been there for ages and what has he produced?

Is Rob Kelly in work at the moment? Whatever happened to Paul Hart? It'd be great to get him in charge of our Academy...

I fully agree with the motion that we need a complete overhaul at the Academy.Bobby Downes is way past his "over-due date"Mr Williams should investigate Why certain German players who cost big money to bring in from abroad were allowed to "walk" out on the club? These players were never given a proper chance yet are now playing/training with Champion league clubs and the likes of Hodge and Kane are give extended contracts.......

We got money for Andy Taylor, I believe.

BTW Unleaded, i suspect the only reason Hodge's contract was extended was because he has value (Millwall bidded for him this January). If he does well at Darlo and especially if they go up, they may sign Hodge and add a few pence in the Rovers coffers.

Took my cue from this list, all of whom left Man U in the last couple of seasons....

Missed JayMcEveley, Andy Taylor from my list. Probably others.

Nicko missed sell on fees from his list. (How else do we get to £11.1m transfer fee income in the published accounts?)

rover6 is right re the reason for extended contracts for non-first team fringe players.
