broadsword
Jay Mac was someone we bought from Everton. In fact we bought Duff as well (from Lourdes Celtic?) Th really big players for "Unided" that they've brought through have been Giggs, the Neville sisters, Butt and Beckham (who, I think, they bought from Leyton Orient), Fergie himself has said that a grouopup of players coming through together like that comes along only in a blue moon. revolutionrock!
And their transfer window signing scored on his full debut. And what a typical Cole goal that was, bounced of a defender and hit in a open net. Well think about it on monday night when we play some of the worlds best players
T4E
You're missing the point. No I'm not. The point Le Chuck made was that United had probably sold several other players for decent fees that off the top of his head he couldn't think of. So I gave him a list of players within those parameters. My post had nothing to do with players they had produced for their first team, nor was it intended to. nicko
According to the NOTW today the Clubs tracking Bentley are Real Madrid, Seville and Valencia whilst Newcastle retain an interest. According to the story he ultimately ses his future abroad and is currently on 23k p.w. Don't know if this ties in with Nicko's People story or not. Bentley is not going anywhere. He will sign a new deal shortly, it's extremely close. Manchester City - or rather Sven Goran Eriksson - is the club/manager most interested. That is from a source as close to Eriksson as it gets. But as no-one knows if they have serious money or not they cannot be taken as a threat.

joey_big_nose
From the Daily Mail (click) - New contract for Benni Interesting development that. To be honest there is no chance Benni si worth more than five million (if they have got the clause right) so it does not seem that trying to ensure a big price is the reason for holding on to him. Could be a shrewd move though despite his average form... he is a player who uses very little pace so could theoretically keep going for years. Also it would settle him at the club for the long haul. THere is no doubt that on his day McCarthy is amongst the most talented players to have been at Ewood.
Eddie
I think you'd be surprised how many teams would be willing to stump up 5 million for him. Just look at the strikers who went for a fee for around that price this past window.

Just look at the strikers who went for a fee for around that price this past window. I don't think any of them were pushing 30. That said if he has a good run towards the end of the season and scores six or seven goals doubtless someone would pay six million so perhaps it does make sense to cover our backs on that front. I still think the reasoning will be that Hughes wants to keep him rather than just ensuring we make a decent return though. Sad thing is increasing al of these contracts is damaging our already pretty poor transfer fund
philipl
Benjani is 29 and shot legs. They were going to pay £9m until they noticed his legs.
tcj_jones
How long does Benni have remaining on his current deal? He's done absolutely nothing this season to warrant a new deal and he certainly doesn't deserve a pay rise, if that is, in fact, in the offing. nicko
I would be shocked if Benni was being offered a new deal...unless it is to remove any price clauses that kick in at the end of the season. I seem to recall this was mentioned before - and the same may apply to MGP. Otherwise there seems no point in the McCarthy contract exercise. jprover4life
hey all.jus quick question nicko.do you know if any english clubs are watching Mohamed Zidan. the Egyptian striker. he seemed quite a good player in the ANC, with pace to burn. Also is the rumour about Farfan true? very suprised but very excited if it is!!! Cheers
joey_big_nose
Apparently we are having a look at Quinton Fortune according to Roy Keane. Keano Quote We are so desperately short this could make sense. But the fact he was released by Bolton 2 years ago after making only three appearences does not bode well. Not really sure what screwed him over- he was a decent if unspectacular player.
brfcjon
For this I have one word....Why? I would have to say - where and with what money would you find a player of his standards in the summer when we also want a couple of central midfielders, a winger and a few defenders. He is a decent player even if he is not on the top of his game. When he is in form he is brilliant. In the current transfer market that spells £ and a lot of them so replacing him is kinda hard - especially with our budget. Not renewing his contract would be silly if someone could walk in and take him away for 5 mill without us having the possibility to say - no thanks. Yes please, 5 million for a player out of form and 31 years of age ( next sesaon ) represents excellent value imo. Look at what we paid for santa cruz, Bellamy and benni himself. Even if benni was firing in goals this season we woudnt get much more than 5 million for him due to his age.
