Ewood and I Would Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Yes please, 5 million for a player out of form and 31 years of age ( next sesaon ) represents excellent value imo. Look at what we paid for santa cruz, Bellamy and benni himself. Even if benni was firing in goals this season we woudnt get much more than 5 million for him due to his age. The Benjani deal is worth £7.6m in all and he's 29. Anelka is only a year and a bit younger than McCarthy and he went for £15m!!! At the back end of last season I think we could have got £10m for him after his silver boot win. Of course age plays a part but not as much as you are saying.....

Hasta Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 True but your stock rises and falls in football. Don't have the figures for Benjani and Anelka but poor form not masked by only 3 Prem goals from open play doesn't help Benni. If we got £5million it would be a decent price IMO.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Press Conference at 5pm. Bates and McAllister in attendance. http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/leed...tery.3764080.jp Any guesses what it could be? I've heard they're getting the 15 points back!
krislu Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Benni is one of our (if not the) best players, but his head does not seem to be at Rovers anymore. I would love him to sign a new contract if that means that he will settle down and really give a 100% in every game, like in his first season. Having a motivated McCarthy up front with Santa would be fantastic...
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I know it's only TF, but; Rovers Vs Reading for Annan, after Chelsea backdown? http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=78292 Any truth Nicko? And what about the Farfan rumours?

I'm suprised by the interest in Annan. He did pretty much....no, infact he did NOTHING for a whole season with Start last year.
Torgeir Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I'm suprised by the interest in Annan. He did pretty much....no, infact he did NOTHING for a whole season with Start last year. Could have something to do with the fact that he had mononucleosis and different injuries for the better part of the season.
Bazzanotsogreat Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 The Benjani deal is worth £7.6m in all and he's 29. Anelka is only a year and a bit younger than McCarthy and he went for £15m!!! At the back end of last season I think we could have got £10m for him after his silver boot win. Of course age plays a part but not as much as you are saying..... Although Benjani isn’t a good footballer than Mccarthy IMO, City have bought Benjani on the back of his best ever run of form. Benni if sold won’t fetch anything more than 5-7 million, to accompany this Benjani creates more chances than benni due to his sheer work rate, when Benni isn’t scoring he doesn’t contribute much else to he side imo. As for your comparison with Anelka, this is Chelsea we are talking about; and they tend to pay well over the odds for players. Additionally Anelka is one the best strikers in the Prem and has established this over several seasons with different clubs. 5 Million at the end of the season is more than a fair price for benni, if Van Nistlerooy went for a smallish sum, we are not going to get much more than 5 million for a 31 year old; out of form striker.
Ste B Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Any guesses what it could be? I've heard they're getting the 15 points back! A new kit deal with Macron ?? Why can't they get Nike, after all they make Accrington Stanleys kit
herbergeehh Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I don't, usually, but this time I think Bazzasnotsogreat has summed up McCarthy quite accurately. He is 31, he isn't playing particularly well, and he isn't currently scoring. He will have to be replaced though, and even though his price will be affected by his form of late, he is a quality striker with a lot of ability.
nicko Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 If you can get £5 million for Benni in the summer I would take it. Why give him more money to stay? It's a fair price to get, sell him at a profit, move on.
brian_gallagher85 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 How much has Coyle got then Nicko? Any news on who'll start with Roque tonight, I would think we would normally play 5 in the middle against the Gunners, but we don't have that many in there, unless Brown takes his gloves off?
herbergeehh Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Who has said anything about more money, though? I take it you don't know more about Farfan? I am guessing it's five in midfield, with Berner on the left and Bentley slightly behind Santa Cruz in a free role like last time. Reid, Tugay and Mokoena with the three other midfield spots.. I would personally like to see McCarthy up there with Santa Cruz, or maybe Roberts can run Senderos ragged.
nicko Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Who has said anything about more money, though? MCCARTHY WOULD WANT MORE MONEY - AND A LONGER CONTRACT - TO RE-SIGN. I take it you don't know more about Farfan? IT SEEMS HE HAS A GET-OUT CLAUSE AND IS BEING HAWKED AROUND. HE'S OK, BUT NOTHING SPECIAL. HOWEVER HE HAS PACE.
herbergeehh Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Fair enough. A longer contract was what I was thinking, not necessarily a bumper pay rise. But that's just speculation from my point of view. Not seen Farfan for a while, but always thought he was a tricky player for PSV. We don't have that kind of winger in our squad, and he could probably play up front aswell. The chief at PSV has confirmed the clause, but refused to tell the price.. obviously. Can I ask, Nicko, do clubs know these clauses, or are they in the dark? And do you have any idea how much he would cost? I'm a bit skeptic, our name seems to appear out of nowhere?
Mozzer Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 i also think, if offered 5 million for mcarthy we should take it.. his performances havent been great this season, hes getting on abit-maybe it could be the right time to cash in on him.. nicko, is it true fortune is coming for a trial with us??

Any agent worth his salt will have told any potential buyers how much Farfan will cost...I have no idea, but I did hear it was about £10 million two seasons ago. I will presume it has dropped as his contract runs on. I saw him against Liverpool last season and he didn't do much for me.
herbergeehh Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Scored a few decent goals.. Easier to sign South Americans with Roque around too, I guess. And perhaps even easier for the media to link them up with Blackburn..
HATRIX Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I agree with nicko he looks rubbish http://youtube.com/watch?v=4Cq1gmWxaqk
herbergeehh Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Scoring from set pieces with both feet on another video. Quite impressive.
nicko Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 I saw him against Liverpool last season and he didn't do much for me. A quick check on his scoring return in the last 16 Champions League games - rather than the Dutch Sunday League - shows that he scored none this season and two the one before. Against Liverpool - home and way - he was too small and lightweight.
nicko Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 I believe Maceo Rigters has turned down a loan move to Leeds...something about not wanting to drop down two divisions. Hope he enjoys Northwich on Thursday night!
rover6 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 He could have been Clive Wijnhard reincarnate.
broadsword Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I don't get the contract re-negotiations with MacCarthy - how can the cheeky beggar ask for more cash, the season he's having?! Not negotiating from a position of strength, methinks. Perhaps that's why Rovers are talking to him now.
nicko Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Not sure I could back Rovers to win tonight, but... Bentley is an outrageous 20 to 1 to be first scorer on Betfair.
