nicko Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Good job I wasn't tempted ... McCarthy's marking for corner was quite pathetic. Don't know if the 'floor manager' can be heard on Setanta TV coverage. He is the guy relaying messages from touchline - and his walkie-talkie has gone out live a couple of times. Just said Hughes slagging McCarthy. Interesting. New contract? I have my doubts.
Exiled_Rover Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Yeah he was coming over loud and clear. Quite amusing.
1864roverite Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Setanta = Amateurs - I wouldnt pay to watch this trashy tv site EVER
brfcjon Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 If you can get £5 million for Benni in the summer I would take it. Why give him more money to stay? It's a fair price to get, sell him at a profit, move on. to be slightly cheeky - good thing with a profit, but which top forward would you replace him with for 3, 5 mill (5 mill in, 3,5 out isnt that the it goes for rovers?). As it is we have a potentially good forward. sell him we have to find another one for less money. And yes we managed with bellers and santa but I just dont see i happening every year. And keeping the same squad and having that stability counts for something too. Its not just buying and selling. Its building a footy team. just my cents
Dunnfc Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Wonder if West ham would swap Bellamy for Benni?
1864roverite Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Wonder if West ham would swap Bellamy for Benni? Posting a 27m debt in their accounts and having to postpone the new development of the wham academy, I think there is some mileage in the exchange.
JAL Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I don't get the contract re-negotiations with MacCarthy - how can the cheeky beggar ask for more cash, the season he's having?! Not negotiating from a position of strength, methinks. Perhaps that's why Rovers are talking to him now. It sounds like the excuse is being set-up for Benni leaving Rovers in the summer will be all about money and the lack of security in his contract. Just hope Rovers get a decent price.

Lets face it seems last season was an aberration, he has been found out by the rest of the prem and isn’t going to improve with age. He is the type of player that if he isn’t scoring he isn’t contributing. If we get a bid of 5 million , we should grab it and move on. Its too rovers-centric to believe that “their isn’t anyone out their as good as Benni for the same money available”. Lets face facts he has been out of form for 5 months a very long slump that he may never get out of.
mickf Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Nicko, I know it is off topic but have you heard who is going to be westham's director of football ? Cheers.

He is getting older, his current form is poor and the fact is that he is not the perfect partner for Roque. Take the money and his wages off the payroll and I'm sure you could find a younger, better sidekick for Roque.
nicko Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 Wonder if West ham would swap Bellamy for Benni? Bellamy has started seven Premier League games for West Ham this season, scoring two goals. He may miss the rest of the season with yet another injury. He is on around £70,000-a-week. I think I would forget the idea of Bellamy being a good signing.
Dunnfc Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I like Benni i think hes a quality player and really skillfull but at sometimes you dont need that youve got to be ruthless and not try tricks but to get the ball in the box of net. Really do think we need pace upfront because its evident we play better like that when we can counter and have a nippy striker who can get in behind the defenders and finish. I remember we used to give it Pedersen and hed give it Bellars and wed be 1-0 up. Im pleased to see us linked with Farfan i do rate him when he plays in the eredivisie but its hardly the premiership as you get loads of time on the ball, Hes quick, skillfull and has an eye for a goal also hes good at set pieces something which we need to improve on. He can play on either wing or straight upfront and i personally think hed be a class signing but his price is surely more than what we can afford, wasent long ago Chelsea where sniffing around and am i right that they have first optition on any PSV player? Need someone quick though upfront as the amount of momentum we lose when we are in the final 3rd is shocking, just need a quick guy to get on to Santas flicks and get behind the oposition backline. So who do we want lads?

rebelzero Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 while you're on the topic of unfounded speculation regarding Bellamy... take a look here... basically its a rumour that the Welshman may be off to Toronto FC in MLS somehow, I don't think so.

Lets face facts he has been out of form for 5 months a very long slump that he may never get out of. He hasn't been found out, the way we have played as a team has changed and the quality of our play has declined. Benni is pretty much the same player, but the role is is playing is far different and he's much, much worse at it.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I think your Stoke prediction is off backwards Nicko... Big, powerful team with strength in depth. Not the best team in the division... but they're certainly playing like it at the moment. EDIT: maybe spoke too soon!

Yep my tip to go up, stong, strength in depth and have the best CB pairing in the div. Put it one way- a combined inbreed and stoke XI would have many more players stoke in it than Burnley

nicko Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 Anyone want to discuss closing gaps? Andy Cole being past it? Just been to Stoke, going great, but would love to face them in the play-offs. In the semis or the final. One point off the top six...is that whining the sound of fear?
Dunnfc Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Just been to Stoke, going great, but would love to face them in the play-offs. In the semis or the final. Love to face them sounds as if you are a claret? Wouldn't mind Burnley coming up, as we would have a game to really really look forward too.
