"Bottle"? You don't think this has got anything to do with the fact that Burnley actually had money to spend, while we didn't? Also, bringing in players like Andy Cole might be a wise move if you're in the CCC, but not if you're a Premier League team like us. If we were to strengthen our team, we'd need to spend a lot more than what the Dingles spent on Andy Cole - money that simply wasn't available to Hughes this window.

Burnley sold Andy Gray - installments up to £2 million - and he has scored no goals for Charlton so far. Good managerial judgement.

They have brought in Cole and Randall on wages and have plenty left if needed before the deadline.

Rovers sold Robbie Savage for £1.5 million plus installments. He has played like a drain for Derby. Good managerial judgement.

The fact you only brought in the kid Flynn isn't my fault...

my bet to come up from the championship is stoke..

they have some decent players-especially that player ryan shawcross-we should look at him..hes only young and has scored like 6 goals..

Stoke were brilliant for 45 minutes last night and then were over-run themselves when Southampton got the ball down and played.

I think they will bully enough teams to make the top six. But you can only go so far on long throws, set-pieces and running around.

They have signed well in the loan market, mind you and deserve more respect than some up there.

It will take about 72 points to finish sixth and they are already on 56, so they should do it.

Not sure how this thread has become the Championship discussion thread but here's my twopennorth. Can't say I have watched this league closely but I have seen Bristol City twice live - my wife's family is from Bristol and most of them are ciderheads. As it happens I saw them beat Stoke 1-0 at Ashton Gate and Burnley 1-0 away (fine birthday present that one). In both matches the result was probably more comfortable than the scoreline suggested, particularly in the case of Stoke, who were fairly poor (but that was early in the season). They play the game properly on the ground. Probably not got enough for automatic promotion but must be favourites for a play-off place and will be difficult to beat if they get there.

You do realise that this now pantomime-like thread is going to run and run like this for most of the season.

Burnley play well away: The'yre going up

Burnley fail to beat poor side at home. Oh no there not

Good point away. Oh yes they are.

We'd all be better just not mentioning them until the end of the season. Then we could either dog Nicko or vice versa. Otherwise 'this thread' is going to become very tedious for the next 3 months.

Never seen so many "bites" on a thread - keep reeling 'em in nicko!

In one.

Mind you, the Championship - for all its faults - is more fun than the Premier League right now. The standard isn't great but there are goals galore, good games and big crowds.

The Premier has to have a look at itself, the Big Three are untouchable, there's a scrum for fourth and as for the Inter Toto Race...

Fans will start losing interest all over the place if they are not careful. There is no entertainment in just getting by.

Agree about the big three, but surely the battle for fourth, the scrap for UEFA places, and the teams that could get sucked into the relegation scrap are all quite interesting this year?

Everton are dull, Villa are OK but not riveting, Portsmouth are big and strong, Man City are remarkably hanging on. Liverpool are a rather sad soap opera...the Crossroads of the Premier League.

I am sorry but this has been a season of missed opportunity for Rovers. And I don't mean my 'top six' bet either. Fourth could have been achieved, now sixth looks miles away. They play better with a target, but that may soon be out of sight...and this is the first half of February.

Derby are rotten and down, Fulham can't win away, most of the rest at the bottom are unwatchable.

The Premier League is now richer than it has ever been but with too much boring football. Complacency can be a killer and there are a few Premier League clubs in that boat right now.

There is growing excitement outside the top flight, look at the gate at Norwich last night for instance. Leeds are drawing massive crowds no matter what league they are in.

Good result last night for Burnley, and no one could seriously have doubted that Andy Cole would score goals in that league. It wouldn't overly bother me if they did go up..(it'd be a laugh). Unfortunatly for Burnley while Coyle seems to be getting the best from a mainly average set of players, I think there are better more consistant sides around them. Then by the time next year comes, I expect Coyle will have been poached by a Premier League team more than likely Bolton.

He did have a spell with brum at the end of last season, in the championship. In which he only managed 1 goal in 5 games. So it wouldn't of surprised me if he hadn't started this well, but it is his last chance to earn a contract and save his failing career.

He's 38, he's not bothered about a long-term contract, he's been at clubs where he has not been used properly or at all...now he finds somewhere he can get on the end of good balls into the box.

Just admit it, he's an inspired signing.
