He's 38, he's not bothered about a long-term contract, he's been at clubs where he has not been used properly or at all...now he finds somewhere he can get on the end of good balls into the box.

Just admit it, he's an inspired signing.

Yes, for a Championship side he is a very good signing. I was highly disappointed when he left for nothing, and believed then - and now - we should have kept him on as a 3rd striker at least, because he will always be able to score goals. One in every three games for Rovers? He wouldn't make much of a difference for Rovers now though, so "all hail Coyle" aside, there's no point in discussing it further.

I agree about the top four though, this season was a great chance for us to nick it, and if Hughes had been given 5-10 million pounds to work with, I believe we would have. I've been thinking this might be one of Hughes' last seasons with Rovers unless we can get some investment going, he's so restricted in the market he's proven to be a master of.

It doesn't matter how old he is, I'm sure both he and his agent want a deal. It's a tough call to end it all and Cole is nearing that time. Mind you Teddy Sheringham is still going and he has a free bus pass now.

We've got one he can have.

Agreed, they can have Berner. :P

You've got three...I'd take a look at Peter if he ever played for anybody. He can't have gone THAT far backwards. Plus he wants to put himself in the shop window before it shuts.

But there are a couple of other options out there.

By the way, I see the Benni 'new contract' stories are confirmed. There must be a good reason for that, but struggling to think of one right now.

Contracts were never mentioned, I don't think he has an agent anyway. If he wants to prove he still has it to play on, then good for him. It's a big 14 games for all concerned.

And, no thanks on Berner.

Teh logic behind the Benni contract is easy... longer cotnract length = larger transfer fee, so we extend him a bit so we can hold out for more money when someone comes in to buy him (and with the market this insane, someone will be stupid enough to inquire).

Sure on his current form a team woul need to be silly to pay much for him, but with all teh money about, someone is alays willing to spend it foolishly.

I'll be his agent then. Yes Mr Cole wants loads of cash for scoring a couple of goals in a micky mouse league and i want 35%. He'd make a killing bouncing down the leagues as he gets older just knocking in a few here and there.

Berner would be very good for most championship clubs. He can't pass, can't cross and has no pace.

Nicko: Any word on Cov Job? Pearson seems bookies favourite but Black has had his name plastered over the papers around here today and they are saying that Wigan have been contacted.

There is growing excitement outside the top flight, look at the gate at Norwich last night for instance. Leeds are drawing massive crowds no matter what league they are in.

Thats only because they heard Jay Jay Okocha was playing ;)

Actually... Glenn Roeder said after the game, he can't remember the last time he waited in the tunnel for a player to come off the pitch to shake his hand because of the way he performed.

I hear Ranson wants to be 'hands on' and is looking for a young boss to work under his wing, or better still be the first team coach.

Still, if you buy the train set you want to play with it yourself...

Its to the point where I don't come in this thread unless there's news going on that I want more info about. Otherwise, its simply a thread of people trying to toss burnley barbs at someone who doesn't care about Burnley. Quite pointless really.

But speaking about news I want to know about... Is there any way that the "39th round" happens given the opposition from FIFA, the AFC, and the supporters?

There's a pretty major transfer move brewing - a midfielder you had in your sights.

However I understand that he is going elswhere for a lot of money and big wages. The deal is basically lined up and should happen.

More details in the morning.

Cole is a phenomial signing for Burnley. The guy was world class and remains hungry, and at Championship level he is top of the tree.

I am a big Rovers fan, and have been all my life... I hope Burnley get promoted.

Every season the gap is growing. Our seasons are getting more and more boring. 6th is like being Champions. Gimme the chance to replace Derby/Wigan/Birmingham or any of the other boring and menial fixtures and replace it with a meaningful, atmospheric full blooded derby game and I'll take it every time.

I don't care enough about Burnley to hate. In the only things I care enough about in life in general to hate, I love. How any human being can truely, and I mean truely, to the point where their blood boils, hate another football team, because they are close to us on a map is beyond me. The usual stereotypical local heroes will come out and slate me, but put it this way, everyone at BRFC would agree, Burnley being in the top flight would be nothing but good for Rovers.
