Got to go out for a romantic evening with a gorgeous pouting blond - Diego Forlan.

Sheff U may be looking to bring in someone to run the team - with Robson being offered an upstairs job.

The name being mentioned is Kevin Blackwell. He was popular there before and is available.

How about a one single academy set-up for the benefit of all the Prem with top quality coaching staff, and other staff to look after the kids during their time at the academy. Each student at the academy would be signed as a junior for one of the clubs as they are now in the existing set-up, so there could be no question as to which club would get the young player on their graduation from the academy, and no poaching. The costs of the academy would be shared equally by all clubs, and should be much less than the present situation where each club has it's own massive investment in land and premises.

Could be the answer, all we know is theres got to be a change if the current system isnt productive enough.

I'm not saying Cole was better than Shearer - but Cole was DEFINITELY WORLD CLASS. He proved it in the Champions League - something not even Mr. Shearer did.

Cole was playing in a better team than both clubs shearer played for in the chaampions league.

Cole was a good domestic forward who was lucky enough to play in some very attacking sides most notably keegan and ferguson teams. He did score goals in europe for united but even my nan would of bagged a few goals playing in front of that midfield. If shearer had been playing in that united team then he would probably be out on his own in the champions league scoring records. The point im making is shearer was world class and the gulf between them was massive in my opinion... m'kay.

He wasn't an England regular, so how could he be world class?

Indeed. A world class player would usually command a place in an international team. Scoring goals in the premiership and europe makes you a good player. However other aspects are needed in your game such as influence and leadership, something cole lacks in abundance. Look at eric cantona,he wasnt a prolific goal scorer but scored important special gaols. He also had leadership, flair, carisma and magnificent technical skill. That made him world class. The only thing that cole was world class at was sulking.

I'd have Cole right up there with the best of his generation.

Shearer was the best striker in the world 93-96 by a country mile. But the fact that Cole's stats bear comparison with the great man show how good Andy Cole has been. England selection is meaningless - it is a political game producing failure after failure after failure after failure after failure and bears little relationship to whether a player is good enough to represent his country or not. Sorry if this is news to the naive out there.

Rovers supporters have had the enormous privilege of watching the Premiership's two most prolific strikers playing wearing our shirt.

I knew Blackwell was going to Sheff U. Given that one is the open, I can tell you Sheff U will do very nicely out of the arbitration with West Ham but if that is kept quiet (which it will) you can reckon on at least £15m. It will only be public if Sheff U don't get a handsome pay off.

If Cole was good enough he'd have played. Hoddle never thought he was good enough (thought he needed too many chances - have to agree there, you don't get too many chances in international football).

To say Cole wasn't selected for "political" reasons (do you mean club affiliations?) is a nonsense, he wasn't bloody good enough.

How many world class strikers have taken air shots????????? Cole has on more than one occasion. Yes, he was capable of brilliance but he was too mercurial (unplayable one moment, laughable the next) to play for England.

Your living in cloud cuckoo land pal. Scoring goals doesnt make you world class. On the england front cole didnt have the abiltiy to change his game and adapt to different systems thats why he didnt make the grade at international level. Blaming politics is a bit weak as it was only glen hoddle who "had it in for him".

I can't see the point in offering players like a Hodge a contract. These days if a player coming through an academy/youth set up is good enough for the premier league, they would be in the team at 16/ 17/18 yrs (Fowler/Owen/Fabregas/Rooney/Ahsley Young/Gareth Bale/Lennon etc. If you hit 20 and haven't played it's very unlikely your going to make it!
