DanLad Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 .Had a wander in there last night just for a beer though Looks ok, said we might try it in future. £3.15 for a pint of bitter whats the world coming to. The corned beef hash was actually a bit crap today... So much for my 'consistently superb' comment! Anyone want to recommend any restaurants in New York? Last time I was there I managed to blag my way into the Four Seasons on the same day that the UN was opening for a new term, or something. It was superb! Pricey, but great! Probably best to get a reservation, mind! Quote

Backroom Tom Posted September 19, 2009 Backroom Posted September 19, 2009 Cheers chaps not going till March for the anniversary but I wanna get a plan of action sorted. Staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square so theres plenty of options around there. Quote
Tris Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Anyone want to recommend any restaurants in New York? {One more} ... every time I go to New York, I find time to go to the Oyster Bar at Grand Central station - here Even if you just have a Clam Chowder for $6 and a nice glass of their perfectly chilled house Sauvignon Blanc - it's a must do in NYC. Backroom Tom Posted September 19, 2009 Backroom Posted September 19, 2009 Not a seafood fan but I have heard rave reviews about it in the past so may broaden my horizons so to speak. I'm also going to research into New Yorks brst pizza and cheesecake Quote
thenodrog Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I'm not a great beer / lager drinker but I would have a pint of Peroni any day, whereas I can't remember the last time I drank Carlsberg probably 30 years ago. Has it got better? 'Carlsberg Export' is a different animal to Carlsberg Paul. Quote
Paul Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 OK, might have to try some. I'll let you know. Quote
Mike Graham Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Went to TOM101 in Stockton Heath (just south of Warrington) last week. Great service even given there were 20 of us, I had fried pancetta followed by a USA burger, they do far more fancy stuff than burger though! Bill was £1050 for 20, but those not driving were pigging on the vino. I would strongly recommend Edited September 20, 2009 by preston blue Quote

I'm also going to research into New Yorks brst pizza and cheesecake I had a NY cheesecake from the 'famous cheesecake diner' a while ago. I love my cheesecakes, but I didn't like that one Was towards Wall street area, but no idea if it is the real ''famous NY cheesecake diner' or not. Quote
tony gale's mic Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Where to eat the 50 best foods in the world. Useful addresses for anyone going to New York, Barcelona or Paris! Was just going to post this myself...have eaten at Pho24 in Vietnam (decidedly average) and Quanjude in Beijing (very good but not the best Beijing duck). Will definitely look some of these places up when I head over to New York in the spring though! Quote
philipl Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I went to Quanjude in 1987 and was underwhelmed to say the least! Hopefully it has all improved since then. Quote
unluckymorton Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Anyone want to recommend any restaurants in New York? The Olive Garden at Times Square is a decent Italian, but you must try Smith and Wollensky's on the corner of 49th St and 3rd Ave. Smith and Wollensky's is the best steak and chop restaurant I've ever been too, however it's a little on the expensive side but well worth it. A good tip is to go into the bar grill rather than the restaurant side as you'll pay over the top in the restaurant and get treated more as a regular/local in the grill bar. www.smithandwollenskysteakhouses.com/new_york.htm Quote

I'm also going to research into New Yorks brst pizza and cheesecake Carmines in the theatre district is the best Italian I've ever had, you'll have to queue for a table or try to book, it is well worth a visit. 4 of us went the first time and we ordered 4 dishes (as you would expect) and found that the dishes would actually have fed twice as may! www.carminesnyc.com I love Rays Pizza, it's take away only but the pizza's are the size of bin lids. You'll find Ray's Pizza outlets all over NYC. There is a bar just over the road 2 blocks down from your hotel, Scruffy Duffy's. I've been messy in there a few times! You used to be able to get a bucket of buffalo wings for around $10. Edited September 21, 2009 by unluckymorton Quote
Mike Graham Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Hope it wasn't a personal credit card! no Paul....thank goodness, the bill was split between the 7 of us who are Directors of the Company...we were taking staff out for a "thank you" as mentioned by a poster before I would deffo try the Oyster Bar in the basement of New York's grand central station...a must do!! - the oysters (try the combo of West Coast and East Coast) are top notch. back to the North West I went to the Armenian Tavern by the Manchester Town Hall last night. £25 each which included a decent tip. It was lovely with great service. Quote
American Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Anyone been to Bodeans in London? Planning on a trip Saturday night for BBQ and College Gridiron. Quote
Rover95 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Can anyone recommend a good Indian in/near Bolton? We've tried a few but fancy somewhere different. Any ideas please?? Quote
Guest Kamy100 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 If you like steak then the Sizzling Palate is quite good, their curries are ok but their steaks/grilled stuff is really good. Quote
Hughesy Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Pavillions - at the lights near Asda, is supposed to be good. Never been so cant comment. Quote
unluckymorton Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I'm out for Sunday lunch with the family and in-laws this weekend, can anybody recommend somewhere I can get a good home cooked Sunday lunch? Blackburn area preferably, I don't want to be going too far with the in-laws.... Quote
Paul Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Golden Lion, Wheelton is about 5 miles from Blackburn and now offers very good value food. Don't expect a great culinary experience but very good value for money, reckon on about £7-10 per main course. New management are keen to impress. It's on the A674 Blackburn - Chorley road in Higher Wheelton. Quote

I'm not after The Ivy, just some good home cooked food, I can't do with Brewers Fayre and the like. I take it it's near the little 9 hole golf course? Quote
