New Season, Chorley. Don't, just don't.

Asked for a glass of Pinot Grigio. Was told I could have the house white as "it's the same thing just in a different bottle."

I pointed out the wine list offers Pinot by the glass "yes, but that means we have to open a bottle"

Aspinall Arms recently re-opened at Mitton.

They've made a fantastic job of it and maximised their setting with great landscaped lawns down to the river and plenty of outside seating.

Food was good and probably the high end of pub prices but not over the top.

Ale was a bit on the dear side though. Six real ales ranging from £3.50 to £4.00 a pint

Aspinall? ...... Cheshire company, Cheshire prices I guess. I'm down to go soon but I've a feeling they might struggle in the long run. They need to be very careful food and service etc MUST match up to the higher price.

I saw this happen to the Butlers Arms last year. Really good new decor throughout, but a menu that topped the Clog and the O&O for prices and prepared by a poor chef. Chef's changed for the better now and there is a very good 'Market Menu' providing excellent value with two courses for a tenner, but the damage has been done. People are ever willing to try a new restaurant but a bad experience makes them unwilling to return.... and bad news tarvels fast. The original Chef was awful and I understand isn't even cheffing now but ultimately it's the owners fault. There are so many good eateries around here that they can't afford a slip up and they are the ones with it all to lose.

Brilliant!

Remember debs asking for diet coke first of all, then slimline tonic in the Fox and Hounds a few seasons back:

"We're the fox and hounds love, A PUB, we serve beer and sprits only"

Classic!

Best answer is

Just what I have been looking for, a quiet pub,

tends to wind the landlord up a treat

Tried the Higher Buck in Waddington on Sunday, first time here for ages and first time since refurbishment and change of ownership. Very nicely done inside and the food was excellent too. A bit on the pricey side - £14 for Sunday roast - but what you'd expect to pay in this type of establishment in the Ribble Valley.

The clue was in the name to be fair CLB ;-)

Heard nothing but good things since the refurbishment, will have to give it a try CLB.

Went to San Carlos in Birmingham last week which is owmed by the same people that own the Manchester one, very disappointed. The Manchester restaurant is absolutely fantastic IMO, never had a bad meal, spot on every time I've been, same can't be said for the Brum branch.

Hardly any staff, which is in stark contrast to the Manchester branch which has more staff thatn customers! Signature lobster dish was awful, chewy overcooked lobster and far too much tomato, and the toilets were disgusting.

Won't be going again.

Naga's as near for you isn't it Tom?

Aye pretty close the only time I've been it was pretty average but hear rave reviews so will give it another shot

Donner - his magic doesn't look bad but I can't see it being something that's easy to make a good living on, unless there's another reason the place shut I can imagine a comeback
