Oh I see , it can be a mixed experience when it’s a name over the door restaurant . Eg Tom Kerridge in mcr etc , they tend never to last . I’m going on my first ever cruise soon , it’s an American ship , Daniel bolud and Tomas Keller have restaurants there . I’ve been to their flagship restaurants, I don’t expect the same ( not saying you did ) . I think a chef should for the most cook his resto . Michael I hate doesn’t do sat nights at his somewhat overrated eponymous place . Madness Quote
gumboots Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 Were not regular cruisers either. Done 2 in the last 4 years. Would like to do one more but who knows now. Quote

gumboots Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 We went for Norway first time, then the Baltic including St Petersburg last year. Quote

If you like places, you can go back. We got 2 days in St Petersburg but only one in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and Tallinn. We plan at some point to return to Stockholm as we didnt see enough of it. Quote

I think something like this should have been brought in the last time the restrictions were reviewed but better late than never. I think that by being thick, Cummings has unwittingly done us all the most massive favour imaginable as the Government seem to be throwing us bones in the form of easing of lockdown to cheer us up and divert attention away from the farcical handling of the Cummings issue. Deaths have risen though.....the signs are that the government arent ready to open. I'd say leave the kids until Sept, starting football is potty as it will encourage people to gather and watch it on tv, I'm in the Scottish camp here.... I've also heard today that the directive from the Lancashire Education Authority is not to open schools next week. Too early. Quote

You have a very good chance if any element of the travel industry is already set up to deal with this especially now we know what is going on it’s the cruises . A lot of the American lines are setting up to get the ball rolling in mid July . If you can’t go they seem very flexible for potential rearrangement Quote
gumboots Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 (edited) On cruise ships people are always washing and sanitizing hands. You learn very early on not to touch handrails or lift buttons with your hands if you can possibly avoid it. There is hand sanitizer at the entrance to every restaurant and once, when I went into a restaurant having sanitised my hands , the girl behind the plates(it was a buffet) wouldn't let me take a plate until I did it again. They are so worried about norovirus outbreaks that it wouldn't take much adaptation to be ready Edited May 29, 2020 by gumboots Quote

I asked my dad who is 80 odd if it bothered him at all going . He said no he’s more concerned he and I will kill each Other on the long flight to Houston ( we get on but he’s never done a flight that long and he can be impatient ) Edited May 29, 2020 by Inglorious basturk Quote
philipl Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 About 700 of the 3,800 Maltese establishments holding safety licenses to operate as eateries have applied for and received the new Covid 19 certification since they were allowed toi re-open a week ago today. Many of them have shut down again. Takings are 7% of the level this time last year. Quote

You wouldn't catch me on one for at least a couple of years until a vaccine is found. Quote

I’ve no issue with going on one at all as long as it’s allowed . Quote
only2garners Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 I see the Seafood Pub Company has filed for bankruptcy and shut down. They own the Oyster & Otter at Feniscowles, the Assheton Arms in Downhan and the Derby Arms just outside Longridge amongst others. Quote
gumboots Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Yes we saw that earlier too. I would think the Assheton arms would be taken on by someone if pubs get to open soon, but perhaps not. Quote

I don't know what happened but the longer it stayed the worse it got, yet the prices kept going up and up. My old man lives in Feni and in truthful the prices round there are outrageous for Blackburn. They pretty much match Brum city centre prices for pints. 1 Quote

Terrible news for the town, I know lots of people that travelled for the seafood option. But you make a great point about the food, started off superb, ended up average, menu had less and less seafood the more I went. I hope that staff find alternative work, tough times are coming. 1 Quote

The Derby Arms used to be fantastic about ten years ago before the current chain took it over. Nevertheless terrible news to see the loss of another 10 pub/restaurant outlets. Quote

When the Oyster and Otter first opened they had a fantastic takeaway fish and chip shop on the side. Prices were higher than your average chippy though and it quickly shut. Personally I thought the difference in quality was worth it. Quote
