....... i need your help!

Considering maybe moving over there in a year or so as England has nothing to offer me anymore.

I am enquiring about any decent job websites (does not matter of geographical location).

Is it true you have very poor holidays? (with regards to the amount you receive)

Any general help really, just testing the water.

Thanks.

Employers tell you upfront how many pad vacation days and sick days and things of that nature you get off right upfront. As for paid holidays, I'm pretty sure I;ve never heard of it. I think you just use a vacation day. I could be wrong though.

To answer your question, sites like monster.com and carrerbuilder.com are the big commercial sites. They're pretty vast though, for something more specific maybe someone else could offer up ideas. Hope that's some sort of help.

I think it is generally accepted you don't get paid holidays in America

I.e. if you want time off you take it as unpaid leave.

This could be hearsay but it's what I have heard

Definitely hearsay. I currently get 23 days vacation (they call them holidays AR12) and 5 days sick, paid. Most companies start you at 10 vacation and 5 sick (more for better companies, or higher levels). We have an average of about 9 national holidays paid a year, as well. The only jobs that you don't get paid holidays are hourly, very low level jobs, mostly part time or seasonal.

You should search for websites that specialise in hiring foreign workers, but make sure any you find you research to make sure they are legitimate. One of the best things to do is to get in with a company in England that has offices in the States.

I can't really provide you with any information regarding job websites and holiday time, but two years ago I lived in the U.S for a year. I spent at year at Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond Virginia. The graphic design course I take at university allows you to go on work placement or study abroad in your third year, so I decided to move to the U.S. It was easily the best decision I ever made and I would highly recommend doing it. The university lifestyle in the U.S suited me perfectly and it was the worst thing when I had to leave last May. I'm determined to go back to the U.S and do a Masters in design, but not necessarily at VCU, just because it won't be the same from the first time around and maybe better to see a different part of the country. My experience would be much different from one where I had to work, but the chance to live and experience America is a great opportunity and one that I'm glad I took up.

Small world. I have a degree from VCU.

Also, peruse the Sunday editions of major city newspapers.

Well if you decide to move out here to SoCal hit me up. As for work monster.com and carrerbuilder.com are both very good sites. Also consider the cost of living is a lot different from state to state. California is by far one of the highest when it comes to cost of living. But you make more here then the country as a whole per hour (salery or by the hour). So that may have a lot to do with what decided to do.

Having another Rovers fan here in the states is always a welcome thing. Good luck!

When did you graduate? It's a great university. The campus is lovely. I always used to love walking from Carey Street pitches along the pedestrianised street, past the tennis courts, then the student commons, then walking past the library, through the 'diamond' to West Franklin street. I lived in the Gladding Residence Center on Main Street, across from Monroe Park. The Fan was another nice part of Richmond to walk around. I still follow the basketball teams results. I was at the CAA Tournament last year when the beat George Mason in the final and I rushed the court! When they beat Duke, the place went crazy. I had planned to go over the CAA Tournament which starts on Friday, but unfortunately final year of university is stopping me. Here's a link to show you some photos of what the place looks like now.

After a horrible experience from some friends of mine had this weekend trying to come back into the states after flying home to get married in Ireland.....

Do a ton of homework on the visas and work laws before you make the move. Its a massive minefield. And even if you think you are doing everything right, you can still get in deep. So triple check with someone with a vast knowledge of the immigration laws before you put any plan in motion.
