Iceman Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Well maybe just maybe we can get Julliano Belletti from Chelsea on loan or on the cheap..doesnt seem to feature much at the Bridge

Mozzer Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 i think maybe we should look at getting diaby or lucas(from liverpool) in on loan for a season..
Martin Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Milner is on 30000 a week, I work with his best mate in Leeds Milner is one player I'd go for big time. Good delivery and can run with the ball. Can use his left foot too. He can play on the left or right, which would be ideal given we are not sure whether Bentley will be around come August time.
Hughesy Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Wayne, how about you have a word with your mate and get the word on Milner, see where he expects to go, if anywhere? Put a good word in about our club too!
Lurid Coat Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 James Harper, Kevin Doyle, Dave Kitson, Daniel de Ridder, Oliver Kapo and Sebastian Larsson might be available at a decent price now that Reading and Brum have been relegated. Knowing Big Club, however, they will probably try to hold out for big money

Presty On Tour Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 zarate looks very capable imo, imagine he has high asking price though. pace, skill and flair and could be a perfect partner upfront with rocky.
Rover down South Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Add Lita to that list. Would be a good signing.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I feel that Hughes needs to decide on a system he likes before he invests in new players. Vogel is clearly sutied to a holding role. If Hughes wants to play him he will more than likely go 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-2 in a diamond -then he is going to need to purchase accordingly. Whether Bentley stays will obviously affect proceedings. It would also seem that the market for Premiership based players is going to be over-priced again. Given some of the dross played by rovers this season and as highlighted by everyone we need some pace. We also need to revert Emerton to right back or buy a new one. I think Justin Hoyte would be ideal and reasonably cost effective if available. As a back four I would start next season with (new right back, Oojer, Nelsen, Warnock) Midfield needs a complete overhaul. As much as I like Dunn's enthusiasm he hasn't done enough for me this season, ditto Reid, Tugay, Mokoena and Pedersen has been 'sporadic' at best. Only Bentley has stood out. A couple of great signings would be any 2 from Bradley, Scholes (if available) Farfan, Kapo (on the cheap from big club), Joe Ledley If Bentley goes then also include the likes of Huddlestone, Lennon, Pennant. Up front, despite what Hughes has said we need a pacy striker (even if its only to come off the bench) as Roberts is not good enough. Following his indifferent season and Readings relegation, Leroy Lita seems to fit the bill and his 'stock' has fallen this year. Djibrill Cisse is another alternative. Based on yesterday's performance, I'd also be queuing up to sign the Zarate kid on loan for a year as well! Final suggestion as mentioned by some others would be Javier Saviola. His career seems to have gone off track somewhat and is languishing in the B team at Madrid. Reportedly available for a modest sum (compared to his value 5 years ago) and at 26 years of age he seems the perfect Hughes purchase!!! Whatever the summer brings, lets just hope we see some pace and quality arriving to get us off our seats
joey_big_nose Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I could actually see Hughes having a look at Saviola. Similar story to Cruz, looking for a move from Real. However I am sure he is on much more money than Cruz was at Munich so that would probably be a stumbling block. Also, for me, a small quick guy is not neccessarily what I would immediately go after. A big quick forward would suit me better. Problem is players like that cost a bucket... Eto'o, Drogba, Benzama etc. If there was a signing that would improve us more than anything it would be if Hughes pulled out of the hat someone who could lead the line with authority. But I guess that's dreaming. Of the players who went down we have to have a look at Harper. Lita seems to be horrendously over valued by Reading and is very hit and miss despite having pace. Kitson would really interest me. If we can't sign Eto'o (haha) or even be in the running for Crouch then I would look at the ginger ninja. Seems like he has a lot of potential to be extracted from him. Looks like a big lump but then shows suprising flashes of skill. Sort of character it would be good to sign if Roberts goes. Could possibly be available cheap. Larsson could be worth a look but lacks pace. Stephen Hunt had this amazing purple patch in the middle of the season where he looked very decent. Not seen much of him though to make a proper judgement.

If Hughes wants to play him he will more than likely go 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-2 in a diamond -then he is going to need to purchase accordingly. I would rather hughes bought for 2 different systems. We are much better situated if we have two formations to move between as we can always try something different if it looks like we have been found out. Part of our problem this year is that the opposition worked us out as we got into November and we did not have an answer to it til April. With 3 or so clever signings there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to play either 4231 or 442 as the game demands.
T4E Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Would be a good signing. A younger, better version of Roberts, that we could possibly get for around the same price. I'd be for it.
waggy Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 i reckon harper would be a very good move, reminds me off reid pre injury off course
Iceman Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 with Sav's remarks on the big club,i can see Brum holding that against us,should we make a move on any of their players.
bennyboyt11 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 zarate looks very capable imo, imagine he has high asking price though. pace, skill and flair and could be a perfect partner upfront with rocky. he was on loan from Al-Saad though wasn't he? I think Al-Saad are looking for serious money for him last i heard, £15million plus
Russ Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 A younger, better version of Roberts, that we could possibly get for around the same price. I'd be for it. So that's Lita basically, quick, strong, young and he can actaully finish too. Also an U21 international.
CircoWill Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Personally, I think we should go for Saha. Fergie's after a new striker and if anyone can get Saha fit and playing, it's Hughes and his staff. We also need a new right back, a centre back and a midfielder or two.
T4E Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Personally, I think we should go for Saha. Fergie's after a new striker and if anyone can get Saha fit and playing, it's Hughes and his staff. I very much like that idea. Can see it being expensive though.

Extremely good shout. If he was fit Saha would be amongst the very best of the Prem. Also Man Utd aren't overly tenacious about recovering their outlay like Spurs and Liverpool. They might countenance a bid of 6 million? Then again do we even have that money available for a striker? Midfield has to be the priority.
joey_big_nose Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 We also need a new right back, a centre back and a midfielder or two. Right back is arguable as we have no specailist, but we certainly don't need a centreback - we have four very good ones for Christ's sakes! Prioties have to be for me: 1) Central midfielder 2) Left Winger/Striker (Saha would be good because he could play up front in a 442 or on the left in a 4231) 3) Another central midfielder 4) Right back
Hughesy Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Kapo anyone? Saha would be good - but only if he can stay fit. Rumours that Anelka could be forced out of Chelsea - would anyone take him? He would probably cost £8m+ but he could provide the pace we need upfront. Personally I think he would be too expensive for us. Lita will probably end up at Bolton, Hunt at Sunderland.
AggyBlue Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Rumours that Anelka could be forced out of Chelsea - would anyone take him? I would. Exactly what we need up front with Santa. I'd drive him up myself

Midfield has to be the priority. I firmly believe that if a player of a high standard becomes available you must do everything you can, assuming he is within budget. Saha's wages may be an issue, transfer fee is a difficult one to guage. If we got £3m for Roberts and bought Saha for £6m that would be the best £3m net we'd spend this Summer. How old is he?
Blueboy Downunder Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 i think we certainly need a new right back, a specialist one at that instead of having blokes who can fill in or do a job for a few weeks...this is one of the reasons why we struggle defensively sometimes on that right side.
