Cant blame the lad for wanting to stay on the same wages really. Just depends how big his desire is to prove himself again. At Big club, he was very good, hence why Liverpool signed him. On his day he is a cracking player.

Knightly is unproven at the top level and would cost £8m+ easy.

Pennant could potentially be available for around £3m.

Amazing, i could not find one newspaper this morning which didnt make light of Mark Hughes January shopping list, which all included Warnock and Santa Cruz.

Meanwhile apparently the only reason we would give into such deals are for the opportunity to sign Michael Ball and Nedum Onuoha. Zero mention of Elano at all, presumably because the papers dont want to miss linking us to Pennant!

You got any ideas who then? Because for a sensible price, there seems a lack of right wingers knocking around.

It's Pennant's behaviour that bothers me. I'm not sure whether he'd see coming to rovers as a great chance to get his stuttering career back on track or whether we'll just be another pay day for him. I think he's probably got the ability and he's got the pace but behaviour? cold Ince get the best out of him? Ince obviously thinks he can as he's looked at him before, but can he?

I was all for going for Pennant in the summer, but I'm thinking now he is carrying far too much baggage.

On Soccer AM a few weeks ago they were asking Xabi Alonso a lot of quick questions (most skill, worst dressed...that kind of thing) and when he was asked who was the worst trainer, he just laughed and answered 'Pennant'. Not sure he's the sort of guy we'd want at the club really.

If bringing a RM, means selling RSC or Warnock then I say we will have to do with out.

There has to be some ££££ in the kitty (no speculation please).

I'm sure the staff and JW know the targets by now, the areas that need filing are there for all to see, sure off load some players who are not putting in a full shift if we need to raise some extra dosh, and reduce the wages, to allow perhaps a better quality player to come in.

Please, Please resist selling are prize assets, at least for now.

IMO NO, NO, NO to Pennant. He's a waster, let him rot on someone elses payroll. :D

Pennant is certainly not worth 20k, 30k plus per week Rovers doing this would be sheer madness for an errant like Pennant.

You're saying that having Pennant on the right wing wouldn't improve us???? Emerton isn't a winger. It would have been ideal for Pennant against chelsea....he'd have given Wayne Bridge a proper game.

But which Pennant would we get? The one that two top managers, at two top clubs, still haven't managed to fulfill any of his potential? Or the off-field calamity looking for another lucrative move?

Interesting to note the article makes reference to another discipline issue?

Whatever Kightly may cost (Ince has put on record his admiration for him and that it will take about 6 million), it will be a safer bet (talent, consistency and less 'baggage') than any deal for Pennant IMO - especially as 3.5 mill is mentioned for somene looking for a free in 6 months.

Think we're just falling for the PR & spin on this one; we've had a nibble at a reasonable level and he's snubbed it, so think it's unlikely we will go back apart from a lower offer, and why would he take it? I doubt we'd upset our wage structure to bring him in, regardless of what he thinks he's worth.

Have to admit I have not seen Kightly play, read a fair bit, sounds like he has everything.

Can we get him?, bigger fish than Rovers, must be watching.

Doubt Wolves will sell, for under 8m, and even then it will be a battle royal.

Would he come?, wages and other clubs interested (bigger)

As they say, better to have tried.........................at all.

We should at least have a genuine go for him.

I remember him saying about Kightly as well, think it was in an article about lower league players who could cut it in the prem. He's hit seven goals this year including two against the Dingles, so its tailor made really.

I remember it as well.

IIRC there was an article on the official site when we signed Andrews and Ince talked about there being players in the lower leagues that could do a job in the premier league. I remember Ince saying Kightly has been doing great and said he would probably cost upwards of £6 million.

Kightly looks like he may have a bright future, but i fear he is well out of our price range especially when you consider

a- in form

b- English (part of the under 21 setup).

You also have to keep in mind that he has signed a new deal recently and by the sounds of it wants to stay and try and get Wolves into the prem.

I get the impression that unlike a stupid David Bentley, Kightley appreciates the value of building himself with the club where he is at.

The current Coca Cola League Table looks extremely promising from a Wolves perspective and he would probably be best advised staying where he is cherished. Even a pre-Christmas slump will not be enough for Wolves to drop out of promotion contention.

A Wolves perspective has got to be that yes, he might command £6m to £8m now but if he does his stuff in the Prem next season, that would leap to £16m to £18m.

All in all, a very tough one for Rovers to winkle out of Molyneux if we make the attempt to sign him, but exactly the sort of prospect we ought to be trying to get.

I wonder if Wolves would be interested in Gally? could make a good make weight? Wolves may come up but there highly likely to go straight back down, unless Morgan delivers. We have a good mole in Mimms I'm sure he has Kightly's number in his phone.

In all seriousness he's a player I'd love to see pull on the blue N white. I've seen him play a few times and he's good, he looked good against us pre-season, I'm sure he can cut it in the Prem.

Always thought he was a good player. It seems bizarre that Ferguson is so infatuated with Darren Fletcher and yet gave Eagles short shrift. Anything to do with nationality...

Or, is it something to do with the fact that Eagles is notorious for having a bad attitude - at least on the pitch. He was a bit of a Sergio Big Boots Peter and liked committing terrible challenges, if I remember rightly from the early reports.

He's doing well at Burnely but I wonder if he'll fizzle out like Luke Chadwick.

Firstly, Fletcher is a good player. Always seem to have a lot more impact on matches than Michael Carrick.

As for Eagles, I know a few young lads who have been in Academy/reserve teams at various clubs and you won't find anybody with a good word to say about Chris Eagles. Apparently Fergie gave him the dressing down of his life after a pre-season friendly because after coming on for Ryan Giggs he put the captain's armband straight on and wore it gleefully for the rest of the game instead of passing it on to one of Ferdinand/Scholes/etc.

Kightly recently signed a new contract, would cost a fortune and might not fancy a transfer to us anyway if we are going in the wrong direction and it looks like his current club might be coming up...

You make some good points gb - I was already aware that Kightly had signed a new contract recently with Wolves, but so has Roberts and I think, if the right offer comes in, he is history (also dependant on RSC staying).

The biggest stumbling block (and as you mentioned) will be the fee..
