Hughesy Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Nothing special. Nothing really much better on Emerton anyway. Move on. We need a better out and out winger.

roverfanuk Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Nothing special. Nothing really much better on Emerton anyway. Move on. We need a better out and out winger. Doesn't Sinclair play left-wing/cf as apposed to Emerton rb/rm?
JAL Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Rovers being linked with a January move for 6ft 5in Salzburg striker Marc Janko- leading scorer in Austria. Sounds very very scarey, Austrians are like Poles very much second class footballers.
gazsimm Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Sounds very very scarey, Austrians are like Poles very much second class footballers. he seems to score every week on eurogoals on eurosport!!!
Hughesy Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Doesn't Sinclair play left-wing/cf as apposed to Emerton rb/rm? Dont have a clue which wing he plays on, just know that whenever I have seen him play he had looked a good championship player at best at the moment. Maybe one for the future, but not yet!
philipl Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 JAL, he's Serbian. Doesn't the name seem a bit un-Austrian?
unleaded Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Well this supposdly second class player scored V Rovers in the last minute when we played Red Bull......The guy has beaten Oliver Bierhoff`s long running Record.......In the event of losing Santa Cruz.....he woud be ideal........ http://www.101.spd.co.il/2008/11/video-evi...c-janko-celtic/
DingleBaiter Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Think we should be looking for TWO strikers - regardless what happens to RSC. Was always hopeful we'd have gone for Cisse - and look how he's turned out. Genuine pace is the one thing defenders hate playing against, and throughout the club (first team, reserves, youth) we're a bit sparse on decent scoring strikers and or/pace. If Ince - or whoever - insists on playing either the long ball or pretty triangles in midfield with no attacking threat, we need an option of a pacy attack or somebody who can hold the ball up a la Newell to bring others in IMO. Unless the old Benedict comes back from his alien abduction, other than RSC we've got no quality strikers at all. Derbs has levelled out, and seems best prospect as a supersub to play up to his 'natural goalscorer' tag. Roberts is a battering ram with no touch and zero goal threat. Gallagher's had his chances and has his deckchair out a la Sergio Peter. Fowler was always a gamble, and it's ended up as it always would - is his three months up yet? Julio is only here as a gesture for RSC, and what happens if/when he goes? With luck, Benedict will either be back to his best (ever the optimist) or will be sold in Jan along with Roberts. With our scouting network and finances, we should be able to find a consistent goalscorer with pace somewhere, surely? I still can't get the thought of us going for Owen in January out of my head for some reason....... PS. On the long-standing right midfielder quest, here's something to put out there. There's a chance we WON"T go for anyone. Personally, I'd love it to be Kightley - regardless of it probably being big bucks. However, the recent 'interest' in Pennant IMO is only Liverpool touting him around to bring in some much-needed cash, and they know we put a realistic approach to him he was too greedy to take. Unless we then propose a REDUCED offer, can't see much happening - and he's too inconsistent and troublesome anyway. Two factors nobody seems to be considering are 1) how much we've missed Emo 2) We've got two new 'secret' options that may become more realistic over the next six months that could be considered right midfielders/attackers, and won't involve a transfer. It's a gamble, but there's a possibility IMO if we're expecting a new RM to turn up in Jan that it won't happen..........
roverfanuk Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Think we should be looking for TWO strikers - regardless what happens to RSC. Actually a very good point. With Benni apparently not being able to play sucessfully alongside Santa Cruz, it might be a good idea to bring in someone who can play alongside Cruz. If Benni can put in some good performances between now and January, we might be able to get a good fee for him and bring in this chap who is quite a bit younger! It's been a very long time since we had a strike partnership that scared the oposition, and hit it off well as a partnership!
Hughesy Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 What would you rather have. Roque, Benni, Roberts & Derbyshire & Fowler or Roque, Benni, Cisse type player, Derbyshire and this Janko. - Its a no brainer really! But we all know it wont happen like that!

There has certainly been a short article in the LT in the last few days saying an approach for Pennant in January was highly unlikely.
Hughesy Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Probably due to the clown wanting £50k a week. Seriously he isnt worth that! £30k at most.
tonygreenbank Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 ITV reporting that the 22- year old defender Teguienen from Tromso is coming to Ewood next week for a medical. New one on me. A January signing apparently.
herbergeehh Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Yeah, he's got his own thread already. "Tore Reginiussen"
bennyboyt11 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Wonder how our season would be going had we managed to sign Joaquin

But we've missed him more at right back than right winger. I'll be amazed if there is a secret option not yet mentioned but I think Ince's eggs are in the Pennant basket whether we like it or not
roverfanuk Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 If we sign Pennant after Ince stating he needed time to decide who to get, i would be furious. I mean he hasn't even played in ages, so it can't be like Ince has seen him playing and been impressed. Besides, i seem to remember the comments from JW being, that we would be getting a player equally as good as Bentley when it comes to replacing him. If anyone thinks Pennant is as good as Bentley, then they seriously need checking into rehab!
Stuart Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Wonder how our season would be going had we managed to sign Joaquin He'd probably be injured for most of it.
roverfanuk Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 He'd probably be injured for most of it. No, Ince would probably be playing him at CB...
JAL Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 JAL, he's Serbian. Doesn't the name seem a bit un-Austrian? Oh dear My apologies
RibbleValleyRover Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Forget Pennant, its not worth the trouble: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...party-pics.html
roverfanuk Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Sorry, i know im going to get my head bitten off for suggesting this. But wouldnt it be a good idea if about now we created Nicko's January Transfer Window topic?
philipl Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I am concerned after it seems the club was pretty apathetic about getting a Bentley replacement that Rovers are still not being linked to any wingers even in the fantasy realms of tribal football. Pennant is a no go. The likelihood is that he will run his contract down then turn into a rescue mission gamble by one of the promoted sides next summer. The lad has more baggage than a pack mule.
PAFELL Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Sorry, i know im going to get my head bitten off for suggesting this. But wouldnt it be a good idea if about now we created Nicko's January Transfer Window topic? Nicko hasn't been on this board for awhile.
