nicko Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I agree. Which makes it all the starnger that we are being linked, stongly linked, with the cross dressing Norwegian who looks like a polar bear. The Norwegian guy could be one for the long-term, with Ooijer likely to leave when his contract runs out and Zurab possibly off.

broadsword Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 The Liverpool guy is a squad player, this Norwegian centre-back is a long-term buy, we're after a couple of Egyptians (one of whom seems to be called "I'm having a moody") and a Greek right-back. This is just a waste of time, we need players who can come in and make an impact NOW. This is a farce.

It's going to be hard signing Premier League players this window because so many rivals are involved in the same relegation struggle. So you either take a reserve from the Prem or go out and look for something elsewhere. There's a lot to be said for spreading the net right now...you can look, you don't have to buy.
rover6 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 It's vital that we sign a central defender because Zura, Nelsen and Ooijer are all displaying an alarming lack of mobility. This Norwegian guy would stand a fair chance of breaking into our first team quickly, if he's as good as some suggest.
Amo Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Whatever happened about that Brett Holman fella?
nicko Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Whatever happened about that Brett Holman fella? I don't think he has done much this season from all reports...I think he was only a standby to Pennant... So that sounds like two narrow escapes.
John Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Ince has previously stated how he believes a lot of lower league players can make the grade in the Premiership. Wonder if he will raid the lower leagues in January (presuming he is still here).
dopper69 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 After Christmas I would like to see: Robinson New RB - Samba - Nelsen - Warnock Kightley - Emerton - Dunn - MGP (Rejuviated please) RSC - Owen
gumboots Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 After Christmas I would like to see: Robinson New RB - Samba - Nelsen - Warnock Kightley - Emerton - Dunn - MGP (Rejuviated please) RSC - Owen What on earth makes you think Kightley would come to us? Have you seen wolves play? They look a lot better than us
AussieinUk Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Whatever happened about that Brett Holman fella? He has done bugger all for AZ. He is a perm sub and has to his credit one goal (it was a sitter, as I watched the game) and a red card. Hasn't even made an injury-hit Australian WCQ XI. Forget him. EDIT: Should give AZ credit though, as they're top of the Eredivisie
Commondore Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 About Appiah: Didn't he have a broken leg and some rare mystic blood-disease? I can definitely understand why you wouldn't want to give him a contract... Quality player when fit tough.

dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 What is it with the Geordie press and wanting anything BRFC? http://www.tribalfootball.com/content/newc...s-warnock-samba

philipl Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 The Magpies have also watched Blackburn pair Stephen Warnock and Christopher Samba but it is doubtful they will have the funds to take them to St James' Park in the transfer window. (The Guardian) from the BBC.
novella Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 haha as if we would sell warnock and samba in january. its ok im sure jonny flynn and co can step up to the platter if needs be.
tcj_jones Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 It's simple, a chimp can see what is wrong with the current squad. We have too many bog standard average or past it players, no pace, no link between midfield and attack and no effective midfield 'destroyer'. This is what I would do: In January, sell or release: Mokoena, Andrews, McCarthy, Derbyshire and Fowler and send Simpson back to United and Carlos to Chile. Bring in one midfielder in the mould of Savage (who we have missed more than any otehr player that has left the club over the last five seasons), one striker with pace and a GOOD right midfielder. As soon as Dunn and Grella are back, play a formation whereby we keep the same back four settled and don't put anybody out of position. Robinson Emerton / Nelsen / Samba / Warnock New signing / Dunn / New signing / Pedersen New signing / Santa Cruz Bench: Keeper Olsson Ooijer Tugay Grella Treacy Roberts There we have a solid and settled back four, Dunn who can link midfield to attack (or Tugay if Dunn is injured as a creative spark), a balanced midfield pairing in the centre and, perhaps, some pace in our new players. Then, in the summer, address the obvious problem of the left wing and central defence. The club need to sack Ince, bring in a manager who knows what he's doing and give him some god damned money to spend. We need to pull anotehr Andy Cole out of the bag, and I don't mean as a one day a week striking coach! Unfortunately, in part because of our tight fisted owners and the fact that Ince has ###### away a fair bit of money this summer, this simply won't happen.

I wouldn't say Ince has ***** away a fair bit of money, his only substantial outlay has been on Grella and he might turn out to be decent if we could ever get him fit.
thenodrog Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I'm feeling a Bring Back Souey campaign coming on with a 6 month contract and a fat staying up bonus Don't need Souness just get the 'fat staying up bonus'..... Big Sam. Seriously they've both a wealth of Prem and 2nd div experience so either would be better than what we have now. This ones only got 4th Div experience. Personally speaking I'm not in favour of GS returning.
Claytons Left Boot Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 It's simple, a chimp can see what is wrong with the current squad......... Jonesey, what you go on to say is absolutely spot on! One small change, I would have Ooijer in for Nelson but what the heck. HTF can we see it and the guy in charge (supposedly) can't.

HTF can we see it and the guy in charge (supposedly) can't. Itsh a mythtery! Although having said that, it's not always easy to just "get players in". You have to spot them, put in a winning bid and convince the player to sign, with the backing of the board. I think we're using teh approach of getting every bloody player with four limbs going in for a trial and hope we unearth something.
CrazyIvan Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I like this website. It makes a point of how much rubbish is spouted by the press and how much should be believed.
