roverfanuk Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I actually think that Keith Andrews could make quite a good impact player should we have better options on the pitch. Our midfield desperately needs a overhaul though. If Vince Grella is anything to go buy, i don't want Ince proceeding... He has as far as i am concerned, replaced a like for like player at a cost for the club of 4 million in Vogel and bringing in Grella. It has cost the club 4 million basically because he doesnt obviously get on with Vogel and the kicker is, Grella is always injured, and he still isnt prepared to play Vogel. He would rather compramise our defence taking Warnock out of it, then swallow his pride and play Vogel...

RoverRich Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Following on from what I said yesterday Could this be one of our delves into the lower leagues for a right back. I think we were linked with him in the summer if my memory serves me correctly. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/7752912.stm Here is a surprise: http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...4557038,00.html
Parsonblue Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 The Trustees are being extremely sensible. It is very likely Ince will be sacked so no way should they release any spending to him. On the other hand, if the club decide to stick with Ince - and there is absolutely no suggestion at the moment that they intend to do otherwise, they will have to release funds to him in January or we will be relegated. If they retain the manager then do not give him the funds with which to do the job the blame for any subsequent relegation will shift from the manager's door to that of the Trustees.

Sack him now or back him with the funds to overhaul a weak squad that was carried by Bentley last year - there are no other choices.

We will still get relegated but we will be skint as well.
Commondore Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Has anyone ever seen an interview when a journalist has asked Ince what the deal with Vogel is? We have speculated and delved deep into this subject for several weeks now when the answer is one simple and relevant question from a journalist away?
Hughesy Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Seriously who gives 2 hoots about Vogel? Why do people keep banging on about him? He was average at best last season and should not get in our team ahead of the likes of Tugay & Andrews and possibly also Mokoena? Add to that the injured Grella, Dunn & Reid - its quite obvious that he isnt good enough to make our team.

Add to that the injured Grella, Dunn & Reid - its quite obvious that he isnt good enough to make our team. I do. I quite liked him last year as he was able to control the ball and often pass it to a team mate. Some people have argued he is somewhat lightweight and they may be right. However, as many people have also argued, centre midfield is often ineffective and it is at least somewhat pig-headed of the manager, given the crisis the fans know we're in, not to use every possible player.
tonygreenbank Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I WOULDNT GIVE INCE A BLOODY PENNY HES NO GOOD WITH MONEY LOOK WAT HE DID WITH IT IN THE SUMMER SIGNING KEITH ANDREWS RUBBISH DOES HE KNOW A GOOD PLAYER WHEN HE SEES ONE NO HE DOSENT I would suggest that a guy who has played for Man Utd, Liverpool and AC Milan does know a good player when he sees one! The problem Ince has is in trying to convince good players to come to what is now regrettably a football "backwater".

As opposed to Souness who played for one of the greatest club sides the world has ever known and yet bought Corrado Grabbi?
only2garners Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Following on from what I said yesterday Here is a surprise: http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...4557038,00.html Looks like I'm on scouting duty tomorrow then. My wife is from Bristol and all her family are City fans, so I'm off to Deepdale tomorrow teatime in the away end with the ciderheads. I saw City a couple of times last season (1-0 at home to Stoke and 1-0 away at the dingles) and Orr looked a decent full back. No doubt he'll be castigated on here as from the wrong division but bear in mind they were a Dean Windass misskick away from being in the Premier league in May and Orr is undoubtedly one of their best players.
tonygreenbank Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Doh. And I've quoted you now so you can't change it To what are you referringT4E? The fact that Ince has not played for those teams? Or that blackburn is now a football "backwater" which it now is unfortunately?
imy9 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 As opposed to Souness who played for one of the greatest club sides the world has ever known and yet bought Corrado Grabbi? Who also purchased Tugay, Brad Friedel, Neill, MGP and Cole... short memories hey?
JAL Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Can we change this thread to 'extremely critical January transfers'. Ince needs to bring in a PROVEN premier league central midfielder if we are to stand any chance of premiership survival for this post I nominate Joey Barton, the soft lads will obviously kick up a storm and say no, but these are critical times at least he'll be fit enough to play the rest of the season unlike the other brittle boned feckers at the club.
martonrover Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Unfortunately the evidence is that Ince's lack of success in the transfer market is not his only shortcoming as manager of a Premiership club. He also seemed in a hurry to sign players who raised eyebrows when he took over. No names no pack drill.

Add to that the injured Grella, Dunn & Reid - its quite obvious that he isnt good enough to make our team. I certainly do. Vogel played very well towards the end of last season and is a highly experienced international. He is a better passer of the ball than either Andrews or Mokoena and ought to be given a chance. He is certainly good enough for our team at present. The fact that he is under contract until 2011 suggests that the manager is not using the resources that are available to him. Surely Vogel would have been a better bet at WBA than a half fit Grella who was a yard off the pace.

Fit enough for the rest of the season? Are you working on the assumption that because he is currently out injured for 8 weeks that he will not get injured again?? LOL DYOFH

LOL DYOFH My mistake, is he out injured for 8 weeks sack that one then, gives us another proven premiership central midfielder then Bucky....... the scouse cripple let me down already-dont want him then
tony gale's mic Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Who also purchased Tugay, Brad Friedel, Neill, MGP and Cole... short memories hey? We got lucky with Souness' signings on the whole, if you look at the rest of his career he's made some terrible signings. Ali Dia, anyone? Boumsong? Luque? I picked a Rovers example but there's been many brilliant ex players who have been bad in the transfer market.
roverfanuk Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Nicko has been very silent the last 24 hours. Either nothing is going on and so he has nothing to talk about, or were going to have some news on Sunday...

Aside from the obvious, could you imagine Barton in a Blackburn side??? A marriage of our reputations and disciplinary records, he'd spend most of his time watching games on TV serving suspensions! What we need is goals. Despite our awful form we seem to create chances but never look like scoring. Cue Michael Owen. Reasonable transfer fee likely, lower wage expectations (?), annd a point to prove. If nothing else surely Ince has a decent relationship with him, and Fowler could actually make himself worthy of his own squad place by sweetening him up!

Souness purchased quality signings for Blackburn Rovers FC, Brad, Neill, Tugay, Emerton, MGP playing a key role in the first 11 for Hughes. What he did at other clubs does not diminish what he did for Rovers, I would go as far as to say that he has been our most successful manager since Dalglish, based on him getting us promoted and winning a trophy, that is ofcourse IMO.
