BuckyRover Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Thought for a minute this was going to turn into a death penalty debate but now it has veered into eugenics. How about this? Compassion or innocent fall guy?

Compassion or innocent fall guy? How about Megrahi out and replaced by Gaddhafi for the rest of the sentence. Might restore a bit of faith into the justice system.
Plastic Head Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Thought for a minute this was going to turn into a death penalty debate but now it has veered into eugenics. I liked their early stuff but Annie Lennox solo records were crap.
tashor Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Just read this............ Brilliant tnr and col'n. Best stuff hereabouts for years. Keep it up
colin Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Just read this............ Brilliant tnr and col'n. Best stuff hereabouts for years. Keep it up I'll do my best to keep it going. But only if you promise to stop doing the "Colon" thing. Which belittles you, rather than me.
SouthAussieRover Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 But only if you promise to stop doing the "Colon" thing. Which belittles you, rather than me. A bit of trivia for you Col. Tashor was briefly known as Orshat once upon a time. I guess be must be into the anal stuff.

thenodrog Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 Is this a bit like that 'the artist formally known as Prince' squiggle? : the member formally known as Colin.
thenodrog Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 Well as expected Megrahi has landed to a hero's welcome. I'd like to have seen him fall down the plane steps of course but there you go. Totally expected and I guess the US anger is directed at Libya and some sweaty who made the decision. Gordy might have hated Teflon Tony but it appears that finally he has taken a leaf out of his book and sidestepped any problems. Considering that the plane took off from Heathrow the sound from Westminster has been deafening.

The 'special' relationship reporrted last week between Gordy and Obama might be cooling somewhat. I bet Gordy and his mates might soon wish hanging had never been banned. http://news.aol.co.uk/trade-deal-to-free-b...119152080415941

Considering that the plane took off from Heathrow the sound from Westminster has been deafening. Disgusting, the whole debacle. Scottish flags at the airport and Gadaffi's lad (?) thanking our Government and a member of our wonderful Royal Family for helping the process along. He's dying apparently, every cloud eh ?
neekoy Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Disgusting, the whole debacle. Scottish flags at the airport and Gadaffi's lad (?) thanking our Government and a member of our wonderful Royal Family for helping the process along. He's dying apparently, every cloud eh ? And inside every silver lining is a dark cloud Should have been executed Obama said he has ben in touch with the Scottish Government to register his disgust, doesn't the Scottish Executive only look after healthcare, rural affairs and transport? Who actually sanctioned his release? Surely if the Scottish Executive was only formed 10 years ago, the responsibility is on the UK Government for any dealings relating to justice prior to that time?
Rovermatt Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Justice is devolved to the Scottish Parliament as I understand it.
broadsword Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 So we can blame the Scots for it then, good.
Billy Castell Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I think Scotland's legal system has been different to the rest of the UK's before devolution, but devolution has probably given them more powers.
thenodrog Posted August 28, 2009 Author Posted August 28, 2009 Dunno what qualifies in California but here are one or two more fully deserving of the 'chair'. Nothing else can compensate. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/worl...icle6812831.ece

broadsword Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Couple of things on my mind today. First of all there's this. That got me more than a bit upset as I was reading the 'paper. I just don't have the words for that one. Then there's this - what the hell were they thinking of? I mean, seriously? I'm no psychiatrist, but I do have a modicum of common sense which tells me it would be a seriously bad idea. particularly with this currently in the headlines. Sometimes I read the news and despair, I really do.
Anti Euro Smiths Fan Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 "Ruthless, predatory and vicious strangler", guilty of 84 robberies, could be out in just 14 years..... Daniel Mykoo of south London, above, has been sentenced for 84 vicious robberies involving strangulation, which were driven by an addiction to crack cocaine. Judge Nicholas Browne QC said the violent strangulation robberies were the "worst I have ever encountered". Mykoo and his brother Matthew used "terrifying, sudden violence", the judge said, in a series of attacks mainly on lone women. Their victims were strangled from behind before they were robbed of valuables. Two of Daniel Mykoo's 84 robberies were on elderly women. One 84-year-old woman was strangled by Mykoo, who put his fingers down her throat in one attack. One victim, designer Nicole Farhi, was strangled until she blacked out outside her Hampstead home. Mykoo took a ring, her Rolex watch and cash. Describing the attack, she told the court: "One hand came on to my eyes, the other on to my throat." The court heard that she pleaded "don't cut me" and fainted as she was strangled. The judge told Mykoo: "You have committed strangulation robberies which are in a league of their own. Your offending pattern was ruthless, predatory and vicious. That you were high on crack cocaine is no excuse. It is by sheer good fortune that you did not kill, permanently injure or maim any one of your many victims." And yet despite being described by the judge as "ruthless, predatory and vicious" the so-called life sentence that Daniel Mykoo received is actually a minimum term of 14 years, meaning that the 29-year-old beast could be out when he's 43 - free to strike again and to attack other innocent women. In my view Mykoo should be jailed literally for the rest of his life and never freed. He is so dangerous that the protection of other women has to come first ahead of Mykoo's freedom. Just a quick question for some of the liberals on this website who like to defend our soft criminal justice system - If a family relative of yours, at 84 years of age, was strangled and robbed by a man who put his fingers down her throat and who had carried out over 80 vicious robberies on women - attacks described by a judge as the "worst I have ever encountered" - would you be perfectly happy with the violent strangler being released in 14 years time or would you ideally like him to serve longer in prison? Link: So-called "life" term for vicious strangler-robbers
thenodrog Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 "Ruthless, predatory and vicious strangler", guilty of 84 robberies, could be out in just 14 years..... In my view Mykoo should be jailed literally for the rest of his life and never freed. You're going soft smithy. Usual cure would be in order. If the neck doesn't snap strangulation would ensue. Quite fitting, no doubt his mother will still love him but the continued existence of such types with nothing to contribute to society is absolutely pointless.
tony gale's mic Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Yep, let's support a system that's more expensive, less reversible if people are..you know...innocent, actually increases murder rates and belongs in the middle ages! Good thinking Gordon!
mellison24 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Yep, let's support a system that's more expensive, less reversible if people are..you know...innocent, actually increases murder rates and belongs in the middle ages! Good thinking Gordon! We live in an age of DNA evidence in the cases that would actually require a hanging. Therefore it's virtually impossible to get the wrong guy. Hang the @#/?s!!
tony gale's mic Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 We live in an age of DNA evidence in the cases that would actually require a hanging. Therefore it's virtually impossible to get the wrong guy. Hang the @#/?s!! Load of rubbish. DNA evidence can link someone to the scene of the crime and to objects but it still can't always unequivocally prove someone actually did the crime. It's 3 times more expensive to execute someone than it is to imprison them for life and US states with the death penalty have significantly higher murder rates than ones without. Anyone who supports the death penalty is more than a little hard of thinking IMO...
