I had images of a dribbling cripple in a wheelchair.

if he's fit enough to be carrying out other crimes, then he's fit enough to be nicked.

I would have to query how someone could get a cricket bat broken over their head and alklegedly be brain-damaged, yet be able to go out and do more robbing.

It don't add up.

If he's fit enough to be carrying out more crimes, is he fit enough to receive another lambasting with a cricket bat?

Just goes to show one cannot believe all information one receives from the media.

The bloke got hit over the head so hard with a cricket bat it broke in 3 places and left him permanently brain-damaged.

I doubt he'll be able to do his flies up now, let alone burgle anyone.

It wasn't self-defence, it was retribution.

By all means apprehend him and give him an almighty slap, but this is going too far.

Absolutley it crosses a clear line that any sane person can see. To chase a person down and assult them like that is retribution. Even children know that two wrongs do not make a right.

An attacked citizen is not normally a lawyer or a judo master. If confronted in a physically aggressive manner, your regular everyday Joe is not going to act as a trained professional, limiting himself to only 'reasonable' force and sound legal judgment. A normal human being is going to go into fight or flight mode. And if fight, they will not fight with the rights of the accused in mind, but to the extent that they, in their hyper-emotional, fear driven state, view themself to be safe.

Second guessing the innocent victim after the fact is one of the most inane things to come out of the modern Western justice system. The burglar should be grateful he's alive.

What tf is going on?

It seems every other day at present parents are murdering their own kids. I don't doubt that some are nut's, some are evil and some are distraught but this type of abomination should be a rarity, instead it seems to be becoming an epidemic.

I really cant get my head round anything of this nature, I cant even bare the thought of my kids getting hurt in the slightest way.

Last week my 3 year old daughter cut her head open, after being a first aider for over 10 years and seeing some terrible things this was nothing but I was a jibbering wreck, some people struggle their entire lives to have children and some people just pop kids out with no intention of being a parent it makes me sick.

The story posted above about the two boys who attacked two other boys because they were bored and only stopped because his arms were aching really makes you worry every time you let your kids go out to play, if a 10 year old boy can think the way he does it makes you wonder about the way he was raised.

My sister works alongside the police in manchester trying to rehabilitate young offenders and is often at a loss for words when she confronts the childrens families, the families are more angry at their child for being caught.

And now a little girl beaten and starved to death while the fridge was bursting downstairs. The spectacularly limp social workers who were shouted at when they approached the house, so decided not to enter the premises.

What's happening to this country ?

It's turning slowly but surely into a 3rd world one. Many accepted standards are in decline whilst some are in a tail spin.

Basically we cannot afford to maintain what we are used to cos manufacturing has been sacrificed by successive govts and without that as a wealth generator we are skint.

Be that as it may, it doesn't explain why social workers cannot spot child abuse, no matter how many visits they make. (Or don't make, is that really true that they didn't visit because they were shouted at?)

I guess the cases of child abuse they do spot and take effective action on don't get reported, but all the same, this kind of thing is all-too-common and no lessons seem to be learned from it. Taking effective action to stop this from happening seems to be beyond the wit of our politicians, and I wonder what the obstacles are?

Child abusers are the lowest of the low.

Interesting but unlikely to have any impact.

A problem throughout the Western world. Economies and morality/ethics in a downward spiral, both sacrificed by a political class who prefer pandering to leading.

Those two @#/?s sentenced for starving beautiful Khyra Ishaq to death. What a gorgeous kid, tortured and deprived of food until her little light went out.

The step dad apparently cried when his sentence was given, and her bitch troll of a mother could be out in six.

I hope they put him in with the sodomites.

It's completely inhuman. No proper parent in this country could contrive to starve their child ffs! Forget puffy arsed liberal outlooks the title of the thread should be the only option.

Unfortunately life is cheap in parts of Asia (and other parts of the world), a mindset that has been imported into Europe now, the social services don't know how to handle it.

I suppose it's the same with the mindset (or lack of it) of eating bushmeat. With supermarkets selling cheap meat all over the country why do some of our imported minorities prefer to smuggle in the likes of monkey heads and gorilla's hands? The toothless threat of deportation is simply not enough of a deterrent.
