I make no apologies for posting this here. It is one of the most moving things I have ever heard.

I think we'll all end up wiser and richer and more humane persons. And probably a lot sadder.

The Bellfield case seems to be highlighting the issue of the law being stacked in favour of the defendant. Although thus is really a good thing and is fundamental to the idea that people are innocent until proven guilty.

But surely the fact that he was already serving life with no parole BEFORE being found guilty of Milly Dowler's murder, and following the guilty verdict will now continue to serve life without parole, should re-open the debate about capital punishment? After all Bellfield will be feel no different today than he did yesterday. Hell, he didn't even turn up to court. Should he really be sheltered, fed and watered, and even educated for the rest of his days while upstanding people fund this through their taxes?

As the thread title is "Hang Them High this may be of interest.

It seems pretty barbaric to me. Probably expected from some countries though, but parts of the USA seem to be diving to the depths.

No Nick that would be cruel and inhumane and not a suitable policy for a civilised nation to follow. Sorry to disappoint but my way (topic title) is the best way forward in these cases. ;)

Personally imo this lot have got off lightly.

One of the odious swines (who for some obscure reason cannot be named for legal reasons) had the temerity to call the Judge a racist bstard and another one of them is a bloody imam!

Plenty of mealy mouthed apologists including then Police (who btw have not come out of this covered in glory cos they didn't investigate when first alerted and by their reluctance to investigate have in effect contributed to a number of other young girls to fall victim to the gang) stated that it is a criminal issue and must not be deemd a racist issue. Really? Well if just one of those girls is of Asian origin I might agree. Until I discover differently I'll just assume it damned well is.

Dunno about anybody else but maybe Shariah Law should be used to punish them. A quick stoning followed by dismembering and torching with a couple of gallons of 4* in a random country lay-by would surely be acceptable within their community.

I've just a feeling the Police would rather sweep stuff like this under the carpet until a case on this scale surfaces which they cannot ignore. It's a horrible and cowardly crime but could you imagine the uproar and the level of sentencing should a gang of BNP members commit similar rape and sexual assault on young muslim girls of IndoPak origin? There wouldn't be a mealy mouthed liberal apologist in sight BUT it would be deemed a racist issue. Double standards would be at work big time.

I would imagine he can't be named because he's due to appear in another trial in the near future. I could be wrong.
