Because the edl are a group whose aims are apparently racist.

"racist"? Are they really? Are you sure of that darrenermike? So how come they target muhammedans and followers of Islam but don't come out equally strongly against Hindu's? Sikhs? Jews? Buddhists? How come they demonstrate against Islam and not people of different races even?

I think your prejudice combined with a distinct lack of wisdom has left you confused.

Interesting... (or would 'revealing' be a better term) how if the EDL organise a march in a town or city that there is immediately a counter march organised by unite against fascism and similar groups yet when these troublemaking muslim bstards organise a public rally to gain support for their cause jihad I never see a counter demo across the street from the millions of 'moderate' muslims who we are continually informed are just as much against extremism and terrorism as we are.

I'm beginning to think a 'moderate' muslim is just a myth perpetrated with the intention to mislead and misguide the more impressionable. Anybody else wonder the same?

Well shouldn't "Unite Against Fascism" organise a counter-demo against hard-line Muslim fascists? I believe "fascist" is an appropriate term for these jihadists.

Or can you only be a fascist if you have white skin?

exactly what I was wondering ;)

edit:- please don't think I'm looking to point an accusatory finger at you in some way as that's not the case, I'm just a curious person(some might say nosy :D ) and I'm interested in what makes people tick and why they're interested in certain things(more so than the actual subject/topic/interest they are discussing).

You are exactly right. But again that sidesteps the issue away from the people who would make the biggest difference.

All that would happen is the liberal types would be wringing their hands and telling everyone how they were "just as bad as" the EDL, BNP et al.

Just imagine how powerful it would be if a group of so-called moderate Muslims demonstrated against Islamic extremists. Instead, silence can be (and often is) "mis"construed as condoning.

Just picture hundreds of British Muslims marching with placards:

"We are proud to be British Muslims"

"No more killing in the name of Islam"

"Stop using our religion as an excuse for murder"

"We have spent 50 years fighting for equality and trying to co-exist and you idiots are trying destroying it in months"

Imagine how much more powerful that statement would be than a similar rally of "ignorant white fascists".

Americans of all backgrounds and denominations can manage to unite behind their flag and embrace their freedoms. Why not in the 51st state? Why can't British Muslims also be nationalistic about the country they live in? Here the national flags of Britain and England are seen as symbols of racism.

It's a vicious circle that will only be broken by tea and biscuits. Talk to each other about each others differences and learn to accept them. Instead of letting the media keep you exactly where they want you. In fear of everyone, inside your house paying your subscriptions and every home having one of everything instead of helping out your neighbours.

But don't you think that a lot of moderate Muslims are probably deterred from campaigning by groups like the EDL, who are flat out against Islam and are representative of football hooliganism?

I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the matter. I have a feeling that it's not so much the fundamentalists of Islam that we should be looking at but the fundamentals of the religion itself.

True T.J. Many mentally ill people who go on to commit violent acts use religion as and inspiration, either through thoughts that Satan is talking to them (e.g. David Berkowitz), or thinking they are acting on the wishes of their 'God'. Funny thing is, that some countries that elect representatives seem to elect people who lean towards the latter to varying extent. I won't name them of course, as it may offend.

You may say that, but I couldn't possibly comment. I was also thinking of some of the Senators etc. who bang on about God.

Well he's an Islamic Marxist from Africa according to some people over there! Sensible, sane people like Donald Trump and Glenn Beck have said such things. Not sure you wouldn't get elected over there if you openly said "I don't really bother with Christianity or religion. I haven't been to a church for years." Even less chance if you were a real Richard D-awkins type of Athiest.

Not sure why Richard's surname is censored on this board.

I thought he was being sarcastic, ive no idea who Beck is, but Donald Trump is absolutely vile

Glenn Beck is a US national radio and former Fox TV host beloved by the US right. "Despicable" is one word for him - others might use morally loathsome or vile. Read the reviews of his book "Control: Exposing the Truth about Guns" and it's also obvious he's quite possibly insane.

Without wishing to overdo the WWE fanboyism, Beck was recently made to look a fool by a wwe gimmick. There is a 'xenophobic' gimmick which Beck claimed was outrageous and a poor example to kids etc, even calling wwe fans stupid for not protesting against such a character.

This is despite WWE refusing to depict rape or murder or guns etc, as shown on many primetime shows.

He's a man that strikes me as a knee-jerk no-nowt.
