Imy this thread has been running since 2008 but only today have you decided to comment. If all the above heinous crimes didn't cause you to comment then why should one more do so? Not only that but have you considered that if the editors of the newspapers were all like you then Mr Saleem's murder wouldn't even get a mention. I'm not religious but occasionally I want to be so I can believe pure evil like his parents can be punished for all eternity in hell. I mean we're used to seeing pretty terrible things on the news, its mathematically inevitable when talking about numbers in the tens of millions that there'll be an odd few statistical outliers who are way outside what is the morally ethical norm. But no matter how desensitised we've become, what's happened to that kid is absolutely horrifying and physically nauseating. The worst story I've read in a long time. That's why I created a topic on it really, not a nice thing to talk about but deserves to be mentioned.

What the heck causes that level of cruelty in people? There are no examples (that I know of) of animals torturing their own offspring. Its beyond animalistic. I don't know, maybe its just insanity at a level that needs a complex brain to truly express itself. But then if they were really insane it seems doubtful they could have appeared normal in other aspects of their lives. I'd say life in prison is nowhere near enough for these people but its the best we have. But then you look at the disgusting decision to release John Venables and wonder if they're even going to definitely get full life.

I suppose its a natural reaction to look to put blame on others when the 2 involved are so evil that heaping blame on them seems a pointless exercise. But I wonder what their parents think, and whether their parenting had any involvement in producing such monsters.

He was noticeably starving at school and tried to steal biscuits and other children's lunches and was getting smaller and smaller, surely this should have been looked at properly.

Well they're doing a review..... Teachers did notice it and tell people but nothing really happened. Sadly I doubt this is uncommon as all the social workers have so many cases at once their time on each case is short, and if they did deem him to be at risk there'd probably have been nowhere for him to go cos they've closed all the childrens homes. Poor kid

Not strange in the least. To suppose that anyone here would "defend" these two vile individuals is a truly pathetic sentiment designed only to provoke a response. Congratulations, because you got one.

I'm pleased that both of them will serve a minimum of 30 years. I also hope the social workers and teachers who stood by without doing anything are held accountable to some degree to ensure this kind of atrocity doesn't happen again anytime soon.
