Isn't there anyone more right wing that you can vote for Steve ? Is Barry Goldwater still alive ?

Barry Goldwater was a great man. And an Arizonan.

But if you think Rand Paul is the most right wing candidate out there, you haven't been paying attention. You most certainly didn't read the article I linked to, as his proposal to let judges be lenient with certain types of defendants or his railing against the disproportionate incarceration of blacks, is hardly "right wing".

But you carry on with your stereotypical view of American politics and I'll carry on feeling sorry for you Brits.

I'm surprised the shooting in Washington has not got as much coverage as the Boston bombings. Innocent human's died at the hands of an evil individual(s).

One classed as a terrorist because he is Muslim.

The other classed as mentally insane because he isn't.

Weird that.

U wot mate?

One was a terrorist act motivated my extremest Islamic beliefs the other was a gun rampage because he went loony

Motive determines what it is called, so no, not weird at all.

"Libertarian", that's how Rand and Daddy Ron Paul are most often described.

Per the Constitution, what Rand and Ron actually espouse might be more of what are "States Rights" and for the Federal Government to stay out of a lot of local issues.

I know Goldwater was considered Conservative, I have heard "Libertarian" applied to his name too but I don't really know where he stood on the issues back in 1964 when he ran for President.

Same applies to the Norwegian shooting then. He was a member of the EDL but was classed as "loony" too.

I read an article the other day that said this "loony" was Christian. For all we know this could have been extremist Christian beliefs too. You have no hardcore evidence and surprisingly very little coverage of this Washington shooting despite the same effects.

If you ask me, the media don't like Islam. This is the prime example. My opinion of course.

Islam needs a new press officer if you ask me but then it doesn't help itself by making news for all the wrong reasons. Perhaps the media is "cheating scum" like your favourite cricket team.

Speaking of which your chums have been at it again:

Islam doesn't need a new press officer. It doesn't need to justify itself to the media because the facts and figures speak for themselves. The fastest growing religion in the world. It must be doing something terribly wrong eh?

No excuses for what they did and I completely agree with you that they are cheating scum. It's a shame you can't admit the same about your fellow English cricketers.

By the way, I was banned for quite sometime, I hope you enjoyed the mauling the Aussies gave you in the ODI's and Finch's masterclass in the T20! Or have you somewhat overlooked your inabilities by clinging onto a cheating Ashes victory?

England won the Ashes 3-0 not because they cheated but because they were the better side. The ODIs hold no real interest for me. Hope you are proud of your countrymen who are just the latest in a long line of corrupt Indian cricketers. For your enjoyment I have posted the list of shame again.

The media doesn't like Islam, yeesh thats a good one. The media is terrified of criticising Islam. Story after story after story is reported on about one of the many Islamic terrorist groups in Africa or Asia murdering people in the name of Islam. Does anyone in the media dare to draw wider conclusions? Nothing that I've seen. Likely because those conclusions would be something along the lines of Islam being the predominant force of violence, intolerance and low-level religious genocide that exists in the world today.

If I have the dates right then that is quite correct. So now then smug arse tell me how many govts we have had since who have not moved a muscle to correct it?

btw You need to rem before making such smarmy comments that whilst you have obviously suffered indoctrination in your formative years and as a result have entrenched political views that I quite simply haven't. I have learned to despise and distrust the lot of them.

Deary, deary me. I mention that rather than what you would describe as the loony left it was the rabid right who introduced the employment laws and you go off on one.

Learn to be civil would be my advice.

"Proper justice" is locking up the "scum" (your word) for life. It's what a civilised nation does.

The list below is the nations that still have the death penalty. Shamefully the US is still among them.

Off you go.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081107050621AAM9WXB

Allowing a man to go insane in a prison cell and withdraw all liberty for life is more civilised than just killing the bugger?

My ONLY 'con' re the death penalty is the fact that 100% guilt is nigh on impossible to determine in many cases. Otherwise I'd be all for it, I reckon. If someone killed a member of my family, I'd rather have them dead than run any risk of them walking the streets again. I only like prison because the real arseholes (paedos etc) often get their comeuppance courtesy of 'crims with morals'.

The one thing which has always concerned me re the death penalty is how to approach the issue of wrongful conviction. There are plenty of examples of individuals convicted and subsequently proved innocent.

Clearly there are cases where there is no question of a person's guilt though as a member of the public relying on media reporting it's difficult to judge every case. I have yet to hear a cogent argument from the pro-execution lobby as to how we deal with this issue which is a major argument against capital punishment.

A second, and very important, issue revolves around conviction rates. Having been a juror I can assure everyone finding an individual guilty is a very difficult and stressful task. If I had sat on trials with a potential death sentence it would have been far, far harder and require much more than complete absence of doubt to find the accused guilty.

I'm sure conviction rates would drop if juries felt a guilty verdict would result in execution.

What are you talking about, Breviek was convicted on terrorism charges.

Did you want to keep digging your hole in your defence of your ridiculous statements?

There are two separate hearings. One is for guilt, the second is for consequences.

Not quite sure what you mean with that Steve. You're suggesting because the trial and sentencing are seperated a jury is unaware of the likely outcome of a guilty verdict? I think you see things as very black and white , no shades at all.

Spot on. It doesn't help the cause of Islam by decrying all followers of other religions as Kaffirs.

To be quite honest apart from the dubious benefit of cheap taxi's and take aways I can't think of many reasons why on earth anybody would like the abrasive and trouble making followers of Islam ..... apart from other muslims of course.

Learn to be civil would be my advice.

Bit too late for that. It's like expecting you to keep a politically open mind.

Not much doubt about the killers of Lee Rigby was there? They'd swing today for me.

Another 59 innocent people killed by Islamic terrorists in Kenya, whats been happening in Africa in recent times is disgusting. Oh and 75 Christians murdered in Pakistan.

Hope this isn't "boring" you DE by the way. I know you like to shut your eyes, put your fingers in your ears and repeatedly tell yourself there's nothing wrong, its just northerners being racist.

"The Foreign Office has confirmed three British nationals were among 68 people killed in the terrorist attack at a Kenyan shopping mall. Around 200 more were seriously injured. Survivors have spoken of their terror as gunmen shot anyone who could not recite an Islamic prayer."

Are you still mystified why people the world over 'don't like Islam' Blue n white Rover? How many christian / jewish / hindu / buddhist prayers could you recite if a fanatical nut job with a gun was demanding it of you? Small wonder that your claim that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world if these are the recruitment tactics employed in the 3rd world is it?

Now ponder this abomination carried out by more fanatical Islamic lunatics.... http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/sep/22/suicide-attack-pakistani-church-peshawar

Now..... Do you still feel like bragging to us all about your religion?

Fastest Growing Religion?? Answer might surprise one though this is just websearch stuff.

This talks of it both ways with Islam and Christianity: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_fastest_growing_religion

http://fastestgrowingreligion.com/numbers.html This website shows Christianity as the largest world religion and to remain so.

But these figures really make the difference negligible when one is talking about this many millions of people.

------------

Nigeria started blowing the daylights out of the Boko Harum in Northern Nigeria, extreme measures.

Kenya I'm told periodically has tribal warfare problems meaning "not often but once in a great while", so they have some experience in dealing with these kinds of matters. Worse attack since 1998.

They may have to do like Nigeria for which Nigeria came under some international criticism.

My 'religion' consists of these simple mantras:

Don't deliberately be a tosser (though we all have moody days).

Women and children first (where possible).

If you can afford the time to help someone, do so.

Have a sense of humour.

Don't pity yourself if you can help it.
