modes98 Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Wjy is there only one UEFA place this season. Seems a little out of line. The "Champions" League has FOUR entries and the UEFA only one, mmm, seem a bit Bass Ackwards to me. Your forgetting that the 2 cups have 1 each though and there's also the intertoto. So it's 4 spots each in theory. It's just normally one of the big 4 wins the cups and league gets the spot.
1864roverite Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 8 points out of that lot for me. A shock for Manure at Ewood as their free flowing Ronaldo football stutters as he is stretchered off atfter 30 seconds following a one on one with Big Man Samba.
1864roverite Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Looking at Villa and City, there is nothing to choose between the run ins. Villa may have the easier but in all reality they are now one of the most inconsistent teams around us, just like City are. Villa will drop points and City look like potentiall only picking up a further 6 points. Rovers must win versus Spurs, Derby and either Brum or Pompy. We are more than capable of beating Manure as we have in the past and we are more than capable of earning a point at Anfield. Liverpool just dont seem to be able to beat us in recent seasons !
BiggusLaddus Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 It is extremely tight and likely to remain so. Just seen the Premiership's list of leading goal scorers. Roque is on his own in 4th place whilst Benni is joint 17th with last year's winner of the Golden Boot, Didier Drogba. Yet the calls to rest RSC and sell Benni echo around this site. Thats because Sant Cruz has run himself into the ground and genuinely needs a rest. And if Benni could be trusted to perform in his absense then he might get one. And joint 17th in the list for a player who specialises in scoring goals and doesn't add a great deal else is pretty useless. IMO he should only be kept if he is going to perform much better next season, and I don't see a great deal of evidence to support that. As for the run-in; I think the intertoto place is Villa's to lose, but what I expect to happen is that they will slip up and lose points against 'easy' games and so will we. Because thats what we've been doing for most of the season.
BiggusLaddus Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 We are more than capable of beating Manure as we have in the past and we are more than capable of earning a point at Anfield. Liverpool just dont seem to be able to beat us in recent seasons ! We are only capable of beating Man U if they let us. If they play to anything like their best it would take a monumental effort and amount of good luck to beat them. Hopefully Liverpool will have plenty of breathing space between them and Everton and will have relaxed a bit.
Earlydoors Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 As for the run-in; I think the intertoto place is Villa's to lose, I didn't think there was an Intertoto this year ? I thought top 4 to Champions League and 3 UEFA Cup places (FA Cup, League Cup and 5th Place). Are we fighting for 6th as well ?

Fife Rover Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 8 points out of that lot for me. A shock for Manure at Ewood as their free flowing Ronaldo football stutters as he is stretchered off atfter 30 seconds following a one on one with Big Man Samba. With Samba following him off for a red card 10 secs behind, and because it is still a draw at 90 mins, RFW insists on an extended added-on time until Utd get their required goal, and then just time to kick-off again and the ref blows for the end. Now where have I seen that scenario before?
BiggusLaddus Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I didn't think there was an Intertoto this year ? I thought top 4 to Champions League and 3 UEFA Cup places (FA Cup, League Cup and 5th Place). Are we fighting for 6th as well ? Think this is the last year of it (it is definately still in place for next season).
CircoWill Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Not sure if this has been posted or not but this is from the Beeb on who can qualify for Europe this season. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7292892.stm To qualify for the Uefa Cup automatically, we have to finish fifth. Sixth will do if Pompey win the FA Cup and finish 5th. 6th or 7th could get us Intertoto.
American Rover12 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Saw this story on a number of sites but heres just one link: Samba admits poor form but optimistic for Euro run

Samba is a big girls blouse, I wouldnt be surprised if he was strechered off having been decked by Ronaldo.
Hughesy Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Samba is a big girls blouse, I wouldnt be surprised if he was strechered off having been decked by Ronaldo. You mean like the time he was knocked out after being kicked in the head, but then didnt complain and was back in the team for the next game. Yeah ok!
philipl Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 No doubt, I'll get a drubbing for this but I did the BBC predictor and had us lose tomorrow and still get Intertoto qualification on the assumption that Pompey won the Cup and City got the Fair Play UEFA place. A lot depends on the resumption of Old Firm hostilities in Brum- if Eck can do himself and us a favour... Reckon there will be some easy money to be won backing Fulham against Liverpool tomorrow as Rafa rediscovers rotation and some obscure medical conditions afflicting Gerald and Torres.

Norway had recently overtaken England as a contender for the Fair Play place. I don't know if it's still the case. Of course us dirty, physical Rovers suporters couldn't see a Fair Play spot with a bleedin telescope!

Reckon there will be some easy money to be won backing Fulham against Liverpool tomorrow as Rafa rediscovers rotation and some obscure medical conditions afflicting Gerald and Torres. For Intertoto qualification, I reckon we now need the maximum 9/9 points from our last three games PLUS all of Everton, Wigan and West Ham to beat Aston Villa PLUS two of Fulham, Liverpool and Middlesbrough to beat Man City.
philipl Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Agreed- Intertoto was only on if Brum had got a result yesterday. As it is, the likeliest outcome now is 9th with a scruffy victory against Derby our only win in the last three. Rafa did rotate but he still put a team out to kill Fulham and they duly obliged.
Hughesy Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Inter-toto is over for us this season after yesterdays results. Im sure the club know that and the hard work now starts for next season. Hopefully we can win our remaining games and finish on a high, and also abit more placing money! If we could beat Pompey then that would be sweet and I wouldn’t mind send Birmingham down either. Either way – another top 10 finish this year! Hopefully 8th! Cant really grumble with the amount we spent on our squad compared to others.

den Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 If Blackburn Rovers qualify for the Intertoto Cup then they will face either Lisburn Distillery from Northern Ireland, TPS Turku from Finland, or the team that finishes fourth in Denmark, which could be FC Copenhagen, OB Odense or FC Midtjylland. Citizen.
