I was reminded, when all the people who had been to the Liverpool game, or had seen it on tv,were complaining of the poor performance by our players, of what MH had said when he announced that he would have money to spend in the summer: every player was playing for their position, that no-one's place was sure. Perhaps some people need reminding.

Still, part of the problem is there is no genuine competition for places (apart from defence where we have some options/quality in depth at centre back, but Hughes just picks his favourites every time anyway).

Midfield is currently lacking quality (to be a top six club).

And Hughes cannot seem to find the right combination up-front.
