Bear in mind that the Trustees are also people and, by the looks of it, want to let the club go. It is eventually up to them what they do and it is also fair to say that they are in the mood to do a deal.

I would imagine Rothschilds, who have been looking for a buyer, could also do with closing a deal too.

I don't think the Trustees and Rothschilds are working under quite as many or severe restrictions as people might think. However the only proof of that is when a deal is actually done.

From what I have been able to find out about the discussions with the two major potential bidders over the last 12 months I would say the two mains areas to be sorted out are - their valuation of the club and how much the buyers have for players.

Any suggestion that you have to be some blue-blooded Blackburn billionaire are far-fetched. Just someone with cash to buy the shares and a plan for the club.

Nice alliteration, but you miss my point. The fact is that only through enhancing the value of the club in turnover and profitability can anyone possibly get their money back. They can't do it any other way - for example loading the club with debt in the way Glazers and Hicks/Gillett have done. So £50m for the club, and say £25m for players. How is anyone possibly going to get £75m back from a club that is probably playing at its highest potential level in terms of crowd levels and Premiership pounds? We are currently losing £3m a year as it is. So we dont need a billionaire, but we do need someone who wont mind lobbing £75m into a football club with no guarantee they might ever get it back. And with no one lending anyone that money in this climate it will have to fall to someone who already has it.

Blue blooded, Blackburnian or not that seems like a very short queue to me. I hope I'm wrong. I really do.

There's somebody in the frame just now...let's see where this one runs.

I don't think anyone could make a profit out of Rovers as things currently stand, but some people see a bigger picture. There is a feeling around that buying a club and waiting for TV deals and other spin-offs to increase will make the club worth more in time.

However to keep the club in the top half will need some money spent in the coming years, so I would imagine that the Trustees will just want proof of a 'pot' for that purpose.

But, again, it's all theories until someone puts it into practice.

Fair enough. Here's hoping.

On a separate note a mate attended an Old Boys Spurs dinner last night. Apparently the Gaffes has blown his top about the quality of reserves and youth at the club. All useless and is about to overhaul it. And some major move is to happen up front for them...

Quick post as at work.

Comments in the past from JW and maybe even Hughes on the matter, have suggested that any buyer of the club must have similar wealth as the Walker family.

Nicko

My better half supports (leeds shh don't tell anyone) and there has been some news of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment being interested in buying out ken Bates.

This has been denied.

MLSE are reported to be after an English Premier club. Do you know which club?

They have a lot of cash but I would think that they would be after a big return rather than big investment.

The current situation with Mark Hughes, is this damaging the takeover talks? I ask because you would have thought they would want to keep Mark Hughes as Rovers manager - unless they have somebody else in mind!!!!!!!

I would like MLSE to buy Rovers! It would make my football life a lot easier as a season ticket holder for Toronto FC but a long time supporter of Rovers.

No, Sparky's departure makes no difference in the big picture. It does put more money in the coffers, mind you, so the wealth of the club is greater.

The crunch is that if Rovers bring in another boss now any potential buyers might not be happy with that choice.

It might be a very important few weeks.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Who really is in the pipeline - anybody else other than Chris Ronnie. When was the last time you spoke to the club or even Chris Ronnie on the takeover situation? Maybe a story worth looking into afresh to cheer some deflated Rovers supporters just now, after all most are now focused on who the next manager will be..

I think there was, but that's another story.

There's only Chris Ronnie and his chums.

You're kidding, right? You'd want the same set of owners as those who have presided over the Maple Leafs missing the play-offs for 3 years running for the first time ever in their history? The same set of owners as have stuffed the Leafs roster with as load of has-beens or never-were's sat firmly in the comfort zone? A set of owners who charge the highest prices in the league?

No thanks.

I concur. Their most valuable asset is a building they don't use anymore and apparently won't let anyone else use either (stupid supermarket ideas notwithstanding). This was to prevent a minor league team from competing against the big club in a building more popular than the new one the big club plays in. It seems that plan didn't work out too good. Exiled's right, they're clueless.

MLSE would never let their team get relegated. Plus in order to fill the stands they would need to put something on the field. You are forgetting that capitalism doesn't work for the Leafs but it does for the Rovers. Quality of play actually matters in Blackburn.

Well put Mode. A bit insulting perhaps to Leaf supporters, but well put. I still don't like the idea of them at Ewood though.

I had dealings with MLSE when I was still in the corporate world; we were one of the arena sponsors. Very good at taking our money and very poor at showing what we were getting for it.

Toronto FC finishing bottom last season hardly shows they have latent abilities in running a football operation that aren't required in the annual fleecing of the ever-loyal Leafs fans.

Yet Toronto showing they have the best fans in MLS and selling out season tickets shows someone somewhere is doing something right.

Not as exciting as Philip's corporate dealings - did you know he had dealings with Juventus during their break?

I think he's mentioned it about 1 or 500 times.

Will wait in hope and watch this space!!!!!!!!

It would not surprise me now if takeover talks start to move a little faster than before in order for Ronnie to appoint his own man in as manager - whoever that could be. Perfect moment now to buy the club imo.
