[Archived] Rovers Takeover Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi, Im a Rovers supporter as well as an employee at Flybe

Just to clear a few things.

This month we have just repaid the final £20 million the walker trust loaned to us in 2001 to keep us afloat. (We were basically bankrupt)

Record profits about to be announced for last year. (probably due to £100 million British Airways paid us to take their regional operations).

Are fuel is hedged 75% for 08/09

Oil needs to reach $170 per barrel before start losing money as we operate fuel efficient aircraft. For ryanair and easyjet its $130.

We now have very good cash reserves, shame we don't sponser Rovers.

We are due to Float on Market as soon as conditions prevail as Walker trust want rid.

Hope this helps, lets hope we find a buyer for Rovers soon, to give Incy some cash and keep us in premier league!

Thanks for that part69.

It's not just the oil price that affects Flybe, it's also the effect that it (the oil price) has on your customers pockets. I hope that Flybe remains profitable and that you continue to hold down a job there.

At 75% hedging, I take it that the financial boffins at Flybe aren't forcasting any reduction in the fuel price soon?

I thank you too 69. Oh Davey, you would have had that info before if you had read the link.

http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=99852

can you also tell me is this takeover near completion there should be something by now also says the walker trust put the club up for sale but I was under the impression the club had been on the market for ages I also don't quite understand it says in the above article before his untimely death he put some money into a settlement who is this I thought it was held by the walker trustees they had withdrawn funding but according to that article money should be invested from another source this settlement company or have I read it wrong that article is really confusing and doesn't really explain much if you could explain it to me in English so that I can fully understand what it all means and as ever any update would be great on the takeover as many members would say we are very grateful for any new info. and fully appreciate your output

on a side note the you tube clip going around of an interview with A.Nixon on Uncle Jack Walker is that really you? as many would say a charming man

Why have we got such a lack of money? Bolton made £10m less than us last year from TV/ placing money and also there average attendance was 3,000 ish below ours. We have also just made around £4m from compensation for Managers.

Yet they have already spent £5m on Muamba and soon to be £11m + Bratten (or whatever his name is) on Elmander. There are also rumours that they will sign another midfielder and possibly a 2nd striker. So what I want to know is how can they do this, yet we can’t? They apparently also have a lot more debt.

Don’t say it’s from the Anelka money because yes they sold Anelka for 12m, but from that they signed Matty Taylor - £5m, Gary Cahill - £5m and Steinson for £4 or £5m.

I just can’t understand why we seem to have such a lack of cash, yet others in a similar/ worse position don’t!? Can some financial genius help me understand?

Maybe Philip will have the answers?

A couple of possibilities occur to me:

- Gartside for all his faults is finding the money somewhere

or...

- Rovers are managing our expectations

Nicko could you please explain to me in English what this article means:

Could you also tell me if this takeover is near completion? There should be something by now, the article states that the walker trust put the club up for sale but I was under the impression that the club had been on the market for ages. I also don't quite understand when it says in the above article that before his untimely death he put some money into a settlement. Who with? I thought it was held by the walker trustees as they had withdrawn funding but according to that article money should be invested from another source. Could it be the settlement company or have I read it wrong? That article is really confusing and doesn't really explain much. Could you please explain it to me in English so that I can fully understand what it all means. As ever any update would be great on the takeover as many members would say we are very grateful for any new info, and fully appreciate your input.

Edited because he has some good questions.

As I understand it:

The Trustees want to sell. Their 'agents' are looking for a buyer. The club is a bit slow in providing information. The potential buyers - Chris Ronnie and friends - are not exactly quick either.

So, sadly there is not as much to tell as there should be.

The guy with the subtitles on youtube would be me...

Bolton are spending the Anelka money - which I believe was paid virtually up front by Chelsea - and many of the players they have bought are on staged-payment deals and NOT as expensive as they would look.

They have also got rid of many big earners, so their wage bill is less.

However it is a worrying thought that they can bring in so many new players in the last 12 months...

There's no doubt Rovers need investment, but finding it isn't the simplest of tasks.

I've thought of a 3rd: our expenditure on player salaries as a percentage of turnover is the highest or close to the highest in the Premier League. The exact figures are out there but it's something like 85%. 65% is reckoned to be a healthy figure.

These figures are based upon final positions last season.

Man Utd -£605m

Chelsea -£620m.

Arsenal -£268m

Liverpool -£56m

Aston Villa +£32m

Everton -£8m

Blackburn +£21m

Portsmouth -£19m

Man City -£103m

West Ham -£42m

Tottenham +£49m

Newcastle -£69m

Boro -£85m

Wigan -£14m

Sunderland +£0m

Bolton -£6m

Fulham -£182m

Reading -£11m

Birmingham +£0m

Derby -£30m

This was the balance sheet of debt to assets at the end of the 2006/07 season.

Some of these clubs, notably Chelsea, are precariously placed if their owners become bored.

Back to topFigures at end of 2006/2007 season. Newcastle and West Ham have the fifth and sixth highest player wage bills.

Interesting stuff.

So Spurs turned the highest profit then? Am I reading this right?

Yes, in relation to assets and overall spending...but they also have a high season ticket price...up to £900 i believe for the basic season ticket..

Was very impressed with JW's performance yesterday. Came across as the man in control, assured control with a down to earth quality.

Those figures look good, only two of us with a +ve balance sheet in the top 10. But then again there are Lies, damn Lies and statistics.

Why do you ask Nicko, is it a load of bobbins?

Well, the club announced losses in the last financial year and have a debt at the bank.

Puzzled where 'plus' £21 million came from. It doesn't tally with anything.

If they were cash rich they [a] would not need an investor and would not be scrambling around for cash to make new signings.

Don't think its profit. Its a debts v assets balance sheet.

In that case it's nonsense. How do you calculate assets? Is that players?

If so, how can Chelsea and Man U be 'in the red' when their players would fetch millions on the market.

Sounds like a table drawn up by an accountant without an idea of too much.

It must include T.V. revenue too..that big wadge we got off Sky.......Spending against recieved income I would guess plus assests...Some clubs spend well above their means..Rovers don't tend to do this hence the moans from our managers about having enough..

Rovers figure is taken straight from the bottom line of the 2007 financial statements. You aren't allowed to value players at "market value" which is why other clubs numbers look bad plus thay all have HUGE debts.
